It's as good a day as any to be a ball of fluff with eyes. Bluebell, Clover, Pearl and Fern are all taking their daily dust bath. These 4 hens from our order in April are so sweet and puffy.

Well, I think I can officially dispel the myth that quail won't go broody. Here's another little sneak sitting on a clutch. I'll leave her alone and see what happens. She's so cute, and also very grumpy. I wouldn't dare take those eggs 😂😍

Took 6 little roosters to the feed store to be rehomed and the run was feeling empty (and so was my heart tbh, I loved those lil guys). So, I impulse bought 3 new additions because why not 🤷🏼♀️ welcome to Daisy the jubilee orpington, Lilac the lavender ameracauna, and Sunflower the gold laced wyandotte.
Shut up and take my mealworms 😢 he is so cute.
Well, we have 23 new babies now because I can't help myself ✨💕 enjoy the adorable pictures of a couple of them.
Pepper is growing spurs! I've heard this can happen to very dominant hens, but when I saw them starting to elongate last year I thought it was just about the coolest thing. She also has stopped laying eggs. Chicken peeps: have you ever had this happen to any of your girls?
Just a couple of our 10 new, beautiful, bantam cochin chicks from (thank you!) 😍❤️ I can't wait to see how these cuties feather out.
Well it's not quite , but I think any day is a good day to celebrate a poofy chicken b***y 🍃☁️
Just a little egg gradient for the day 🩵🤍🤎🩷
Some thirsty quail on a beautiful spring day. Zoe is 18 months old in a week and a half and I'm finally coming back to my farm page. Not much has changed with the critters except for that now I have a little helper to feed "wormies" and "parshlee" to the chickens.
Our elusive Ursa. I lovingly call her our "dud chicken". She's an Easter egger who lays white eggs and who misses about 80% of the time when I try to give her grass clippings or other snacks she has to grab. Sounds like the description for a candidate for the island of misfit chickens! It's rare she will stand still long enough for a picture, and she is super skittish and does not like to get too close. She is adorable and we love her 💗 our little bearded lady.
There's nothing quite as satisfying for me as walking past the hive in winter and seeing buzzy, busy bees cleaning and foraging. I snuck in my last mite treatment in October, a week or so before Zoe arrived, and hoped for the best. So far, so good it would seem. 👀💛🖤
Pluto can't help but hold me suspect. Her feathers grow in a way around her eyes where she always looks very grumpy.. but in fact, she's probably our friendliest chicken. She looks like a little grey storm cloud. ⛈ 💙
A nice, sunny morning in the aviary (finally). We have had so much rain that we had to rake out everything and replace the mulch. Then, it rained again. But getting out and cleaning has been so therapeutic. I forgot what it was like to have energy to do things 🙃 I'm getting excited for spring projects. I'm thinking of growing some veggies that I can use to make baby food for Zoe, and adding some new colors of quail to the aviary. What do y'all have planned for this year?
Pepper and the egg 🤣
The one egg I've collected today from all 6 hens. Winter is definitely here and everyone went through a molt. Honestly though, they needed it, and everyone's feathers are coming in beautifully.
Celebrating one month of Zoe! I have been pretty MIA on Instagram. Soaking up all of the new baby time and the ups and downs that are a part of becoming a new parent. We love her so much. I'll be back soon with more farm posts, but for now, here's a photo montage of our little one. She has grown so much already in her one month of life! 💙🐰🪐🦂⛈
Slowly getting back into our routine with the birds. Zoe is a week old as of yesterday and I can't wait until she's able to play with the chickens with us 🐔 thank you to everyone who has reached out to check in on us! 💙
Peanut didn't make it. It's always hard when we lose birds, and it makes me feel so helpless. It's so difficult to know exactly what to do once they start to go south, and sometimes you're just too late. We buried her out in the garden. We're going to miss her a lot 🤎🌼🍂😢
Poor Peanut isn't feeling so good. She's lost a lot of weight and can't seem to get out much more than a squeak. She's eating a little bit, but she has a hard lump in her throat where her voicebox is. Have any of my chicken-keeping friends seen anything like that before? I swabbed her throat and found no evidence of gapeworm, and she isn't sneezing/has no other evidence I can find of a respiratory infection.
For now, she's separated inside the run with nutridrench in her water and I'm keeping an eye on her 🥺🙏
Happy October 1st! 🍂🌼🤎
Pluto on the roof, looking like a figurehead at the bow of a ship 🤣⛵
Pepper 🌶
A minute of peace with one of my favorite little Rosetta quails. The season is turning and I love it 🍂🤎🌼
Neptune and Pluto in all their fluffy splendor. They are laying now, and the eggs are so cute and tiny 😍
Pluto is singing this morning in her husky little voice 🤎🍂🌼
These two little daughters of Blueberry were staring at me this morning. Such cuties. Blueberry makes the sweetest babies, they're always super friendly and docile 🍂🤎🌼
Pepper is directing traffic as usual today, making sure all of the chores get done the way she sees fit.
Two little blue chickies on the roof 💙💙
