Big news!!! The Alaskan Klee Kai is officially one step closer to full recognition! The breed will be eligible to participate in Miscellaneous shows as of June 25, 2025, which falls on the first day of the Oklahoma Summer Classic! We’ll be there to work on the required 10 Certificates of Merit while in Miscellaneous!

Next weekend, we’re heading back to Purina Farms in Gray Summit, MO, for Cinder’s first IABCA-International All Breed Canine Assoc., Inc. show! As European-styled shows, she will be judged on an individual basis against the breed standard (instead of against other dogs) with written critiques from each judge. These judges are coming from overseas, are active in dog shows active in both AKC and UKC. (One judge has already seen and admired Cinder at the UKC show in April, so I’m excited to hear what he thinks of her now!)

We are still expecting to head to Kiowa, CO, the following weekend for our final UKC show of the year! The weather has been looking brutal so far, so we want to keep safety in mind. (While I am a seasoned Colorado winter driver, I can’t say the same for others on the road, especially on the High Plains!)

We took an impromptu trip to Wentzville, MO, to make a doggie delivery, and thought we’d go ahead and enter a couple shows on Saturday with Across Borders Boxer Club to show under Kevin Carroll (for the first time!) and Matthew Proctor!

We were definitely underprepared as we didn’t have much notice beforehand to warm up, but Cinder still managed to snag two Best of Breeds and two Group 1s, and we went to our first Best in Shows! While she didn’t get any love in the ring for BIS, she still managed to show her heart out with it being her first shows alone! (Kaiser got to stay home and be a couch potato.)

We’re still two legs away from her Grand, so let’s get those last two legs at the show she had her debut in as a Novice Puppy one year ago next month!

Cinder had her second weekend of FastCAT and officially earned her BCAT after just six runs, and added two more to her journey toward her DCAT! She beat her personal best from Labor Day weekend by nearly 0.8 seconds!

🏁 Saturday - 09/28/2024
Run 1: 10.53 seconds - 19.42 mph
Run 2: 9.82 seconds - 20.83 mph

🏁 Sunday - 09/29/2024
Run 1: 10.28 seconds - 19.9 mph
Run 2: 10.45 seconds - 19.57 mph

I am so proud of her and amazed how fast she has improved, with her PB being only 0.09 seconds slower than Dean’s and 0.39 seconds slower than Kaiser’s! With a little more conditioning and practice, she’ll be the high flyer of the pack!

🔥 GOTCHA DAY! 🔥

Today is Cinder’s Gotcha Day! A year ago today, I flew out to North Carolina to pick up our first girl. The flight back was an adventure, with delays, nearly missing layovers, reroutes to Oklahoma City TWICE due to weather in Tulsa (where there is still wind damage to this day), grounded until morning, then an unscheduled 5 hour ride back home in the dead of night because we just wanted to get home! With all that, miss Cinder was an absolute rockstar!

She has been a wonderful addition to our pack, a spicy redhead who is also fellow victim of “short girl syndrome” (same, girl, same). She had grown to be a talented beauty who enjoys the company of other animals, especially her adopted GSD mother, Brooke.

Thank you so much Elisa (Regal Alaskan Klee Kai) for entrusting me with this cutie-pie and being our cheerleader! I’m so excited for this girl’s big goals! (She’s getting her first performance title this upcoming weekend! 😉)

Finally got the amazing photos from Cinder’s first FastCAT weekend, and she’s just so pretty!! 🔥📷 Oddpaw Studio

We had quite a weekend in Gray Summit, MO, at Purina Farms for the AKC shows hosted by the Three Rivers Kennel Club of Missouri!

On Saturday, Cinder earned RWB and Kaiser earned BOB (and earned another point toward his CM)!

On Sunday, Cinder earned WB (another point toward her CM) and Kaiser earned BOB again, then moved on to win Best in FSS (and an additional two points)!

Cinder now sits at 2 CM points and Kaiser at 12 CM points (3 more to go)!

We have a small break and we’re back in the ring in Norman, OK, with the Oklahoma American Eskimo Dog Club on October 5-6 to earn some more UKC wins!

🔥 Miss Cinder officially completed her first weekend of FastCAT and she did great! She enjoyed running the whole 100yd track plus making sure I got my workout in by running to the very end of the track (which felt like I was running an additional track)!

🏁 Saturday - 08/31/2024
Run #1: 12.98 seconds - 15.76 mph
Run #2: 12.24 seconds - 16.71 mph

🏁 Sunday - 09/01/2024
Run #1: 10.59 seconds - 19.31 mph
Run #2: 11.38 seconds - 17.97 mph

She’ll just need two more runs and she’ll already get her BCAT! This will be the least amount of runs of my dogs to earn their first title, compared to the two boys! (Same handicap, but the one with the shortest legs!) As usual, the Oklahoma Racing and Coursing Association (ORCA) put on an amazing, efficient event!

After we got home, we took a nice dip in the pool to cool off, and she enjoyed it very much! And now, we’re resting and will be getting ready for the Three Rivers show at Purina Farms in a couple weeks!

🐾 Another show weekend in the books! We took a trip down to Longview, TX, for the UDOG UKC show! We had a total of 13 Alaskan Klee Kai gathered for the weekend and all had a good time!

🔥 Miss Cinder didn’t get much notice on Saturday, but then took home a Champion of Champions and Reserve on Sunday! She earned one more leg toward her Grand Champion title, meaning she only needs two more to go!

❄️ Kaiser had a consistent weekend, taking Reserve Grand Champion all four shows! He’s still got a long ways to go before he gets his Emerald Grand, but every show, we are figuring out how to work together!

Our next show will be at Purina Farms for the Three Rivers AKC show in September! We’ll be joined by Yakuts of the OzarKs and hopefully snag some CM points!

Before then, Cinder will be having her FastCAT debut over Labor Day weekend! 🏁

We didn’t waste any time! Cinder went in for her tests required for her CHIC number from OFA. She got her eyes checked a month ago at the Oklahoma Summer Classic in which they were rated as Normal. Today, she had Normal rated for her Patellas and Basic Cardiac and she has full Dentition. Naturally, now we have to wait (for a while) for the lab results for her Thyroid, which we are not at all worried about.

Now we just have to wait another year for her Hips and Elbows…

We were at a show and on the road, but yesterday was lil Miss Cinder’s first birthday! This girl amazes me in ways I didn’t expect, with how well she did on our very long journey home in September, how assertive she is with standing her ground against the boys and bigger housemates, how much of a fiery personality she’s got, but how she also just loves to cuddle and be with her chosen person, talk about her day, and flaunt. She has shown me how much of a star she can be in the show ring and all the potential she has for lure coursing and nosework. (After her introduction to water, maybe she’ll enjoy swimming, and another Alaskan Klee Kai can join the ranks of dock diving!) Now that she is of age, we can finally introduce her to the world of sports! (She will participate in her first official FastCAT trial at the end of August in Vinita, OK!)

A huge thank you to Elisa and Regal Alaskan Klee Kai for this wonderful puppy and raising her so well! She is such a fun little girl, being so expressive with her sass and judgmental side-eyes!

It was a decent day so we decided to head up the hill and hit the pool! This was Cinder’s time in the water (outside of baths and rain, of course) and she was surprisingly calm. This little girl continues to surprise me and seems like she’s going to be a joy with sports!
