Pheew we have been busy over here! In the last 2 weeks we have welcomed 2 new litters.

Phantom (pictured) is the father of these two litters.

Elvira welcomed 6 babies.
3 Karpati’s (2 males 1 female)
3 karpati and white (2 female 1 male)

Mouse welcomed 4 babies.
1 solid black (female)
1 Karpati and white (female)
1 black and white (male)
1 Karpati and white (male)

Most of these babies will be looking for their new homes after the new year!

INTRODUCING GEN 2 KARPATI SPHYNX

Phantom: black karpati
Elvira: black and white karpati

I’ve attached photos of when they were both younger. The most exciting trait of the Karpati is the colour change as they age and even when the weather changes.

In person Elvira almost looks like a lilac and white but genetically she is black and white! The ‘roan’ gene changes the way the colour presents itself.

So what’s been happening over here at Barenecessity? We have just started a very exciting journey! We have been lucky enough to be entrusted with a brand new out cross where a colour/pattern called ‘Karpati’ has been introduced into our beautiful sphynx.

If you follow my page you’ll know that from time to time we introduce a domestic into our lines to help strengthen the gene pool and help eradicate HCM (aways our number 1 focus). A few years back a male short coated Karpati was introduced. I am now the proud owner of 2 generation 2 karpati sphynx. On Sunday Barenecessity welcomed their first litter of Karpati sphynx AND all kittens will be HCM DNA negative! I am beyond proud of my girl, Elvira.

I’ll add some photos of both Karpati adults in another post.

For now please find attached a wonderfully written slide show about the pattern and how it is going to present in the sphynx.

I can not wait to see this current litter grow.

Babies are fat and chunky and all have their eyes open. This whole litter will be up for adoption however I will not be taking any expression of interest until a vet has deemed them healthy at their 8 week vaccinations 🥰

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT KITTEN ADOPTIONS:

My registered cat club (CQI-Cats Queensland Inc) legally require all kittens to be at least 12 weeks of age before they are adopted.

After plenty of research I have made the decision not to let my kittens go any sooner than 14 weeks even leaning more towards the 16 weeks. My last few litters I have held onto the kittens longer than CQI requires and I have found that the kittens are transitioning better into their new homes at the 14-16 weeks compared to the 12 weeks. I am also finding that the kitten(s) are growing into more sound animals as they reach a mature age being with their siblings and mother for the extra 2-4 weeks.

If this does not sit well with you then I recommend you find another breeder. I will always choose the well-being of my babies over anything else.

The time has come to find my beautiful Donkey a forever home. If you are after a laid back cat then she isn’t the girl for you… do you want a cat that is all up in your business and wants to be part of your soul… well donkey is then you’re girl! You just look at her and she turns into a ball of love doing flips, purring non-stop and giving many head butt kisses.

Donkey is the daughter of Adorable Coco Pearl (USA import). She has taken after her mother with her coat. She requires more than normal bathing and grooming due to her oiler nature. She takes her baths like a champ and enjoys being wiped down with wet wipes and warm towels.

Donkey would do better in a home with no children or older children. She mixes well with cats and dogs but does not like the loud noises my children make so I think her best retirement home would be a quiet one.

I take rehoming my older cats very seriously (as I do for my kittens) but adults hit the heart a lot more for us breeders. If you are interested please send me a message on who you are and what you can offer my girl. There will be a cost associated with her adoption.

Sometimes nature can play fun games and this is one of them.…

I was given an amazing opportunity to take on a black stud who came all the way from NZ. The reason I adore this boy is because he is HCM DNA NEGATIVE! And has also scanned negative back to back by a trained cardiologist.

Sometimes nature can play games and provide a kitten with the hairy gene. They can be from fully pedigree lines but it only takes 1 magic DNA concoction to mix something different. So going back to the above I was lucky to be trusted with a stunning black stud however… he is coated. Why did I say yes to bringing a fluffy gene into my breeding program? Because he is HCM DNA NEGATIVE! Here at Barenecessity Sphynx our main focus is the health of this amazing breed. For us to be able to provide HCM DNA negative kittens we had to put some kittens in their pj’s.

Is a coated sphynx like a hairless sphynx? 100% yes! If you have ever wondered what it was like to own a sphynx but not been able to afford one well… the coated kids are a great start. Like all Sphynx they are active, playful, down right naughty, mischievous and absolutely loving. If the temperature fits into your life then wonderful! In time I’m sure you will bring a hairless sphynx into your life.

None of my current litter is currently up for adoption yet. I’m waiting for our HCM DNA results! All samples have been sent and are on their way to the USA! Once I know the results I’ll be able to start considering placing some up for adoption.
