Traci Crabtree was the other winner of the Volunteer Challenge at the Twin Rivers Summer HT! WINNING a $100 AMAZON GIFT CARD and putting in the hours for KSmith Eventing for Battle of the Barns! Traci is another volunteer I can always count on jump judging when I’m coordinating! In the triple digit temps, Traci held down 6-7 jumps coming and going while also back up timing! Also spent a division training!
We always look forward to seeing Traci and her daughter Lauren who volunteers when she can as well. They are a blast to work with!
Be sure to thank Traci when you see her around the shows for supporting your sport!

Layla Schackner was one of our Volunteer Challenge WINNERS of a $100 AMAZON GIFT CARD at Twin Rivers Summer Horse Trials!! Volunteer Challenges are one of our FUN incentives offered at EACH show for our volunteers at Twin Rivers.
Layla stayed in great spirits in the 106° heat, ALL DAY working multiple positions and multiple days over the weekend. Layla is always a pleasure to work with and a team player, willing to be flexible and inviting to new volunteers learning! CONGRATULATIONS 🎉 Marty Gale on WINNING a $100 AMAZON GIFT CARD in our volunteer challenge for Most Hours Volunteered throughout the Twin Rivers Spring International!! Marty accumulated a total of 27 hours and 38 minutes volunteered over the four days of the event.

Congratulations 🎉Marissa Bernhofer on WINNING a $100 AMAZON GIFT CARD in our Volunteer Challenge Raffle!! Each day volunteers earned raffle entries depending on the number of hours worked. This morning, Louis Martin drew the names and announced the prizes for our lucky winners!
Marissa who had just had a double clear run, came all the way out from Area VII to compete her OTTB at Twin.
Marissa, it was an absolute pleasure meeting you and we hope to see you again!!!

Congratulations 🎉 to Cathy Brewer, on WINNING $100 AMAZON GIFT CARD after being chosen as this shows Volunteer MVP in our Volunteer Challenge at Twin Rivers Spring International. Cathy was game to help in any way she could. She did several positions (most of which were her first time doing) was kind and easy to work with, had several compliments and when done would immediately ask where we needed help next. Thank you Cathy!! We appreciate you!
We have truly built an amazing team of volunteers who are all an absolute pleasure to work with!!!
Bob Brown and Savanna Byrd were awesome score running cross country!!! It is NOT an easy task.
Eric Davison, Sara Eisenbarth and Mickey Sanchez scribed for the first time and even received compliments from the judges!
Meredith Northup who always has a smile on her face, not only scribed for the first time….ALL DAY but the judge loved her! After a full day of scribing Friday, she came Saturday and volunteered a full day Saturday!! Then she donates her hard earned certificates to the kids at TRA.
Sabrina Miller and her students showed up 10 deep Saturday!!! These young ladies knew the assignment!! Great, correct calls, even with flags on skinnies! Excellent job girls!!
Floaters are VERY important and Layla stepped up!! Floaters break volunteers that need to have time to watch their child compete, have a bathroom break, walk their course, etc. Layla Schackner was absolutely exceptional!
Marty Gale is always ready to put in the time and work to help make these shows possible for the competitors. Working several positions ALL DAY, ALL show long!
Suzy Edwards is another one that worked multiple positions over the course of the show with her adorable puppy Nova!
Marie Weston Smith is always an absolute pleasure to work with and fantastic at it! She is definitely the driving force keeping Avon Eventing at the top of the Leaderboard recruiting several outstanding volunteers for us!!!
There are so many standout volunteers, I can go on all day. You are all winners in our eyes and we can’t wait to see you in July!!! ❤️

Who will be in Kentucky cheering these riders and some of our other So Cal riders on?

There are three riders entered in the 2023 Twin Rivers Spring International that will be using the event as a final prep on their four respective horses before the Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event later in the month. In addition, the CCI3*-L at Twin Rivers serves as the first Selection Trial of 2023 for the U.S. team that will compete at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, at the end of October.

The California-based Kentucky-bound riders are: James Alliston with Nemesis and Karma; Tamie Smith with Elliot V; and Rebecca Braitling with Caravaggio II.

What a nice day at Galway Downs Spring International! So I have been told that the famous Area VI Volunteer Hound, Frick Frack is the official rider tension release dog! While he usually draws in the pets, today we had multiple trainers tell their stressed riders to take a breath and go pet the dog. 💕❤️🦄🐴🐶🦴

🎉 Congratulations Molly Duda and Tommy!
During Molly’s successful weekend of competition, she still made the time to volunteer!
Thanks for Volunteering Molly!!

Today’s featured pair is Molly Duda and her good-looking 11-year-old chestnut Irish Sport Horse gelding Carlingfords Hes a Clover (Polanski x Fourleaf Clover). They tied for the lowest score of 25.3 at the Twin Rivers Winter Horse Trials while winning the first-ever Modified level held at the event in Paso Robles, California.

“It was a tricky course. My trainers were joking that it looked like the Modified Olympics,” Duda said. “It felt really good. My horse, Tommy, was just incredible through it. He’s just a cross-country machine. He loves it out there.” Tommy was competing in England in 2022 and has been in California with Molly for about two months. Twin Rivers was their second event together, and we’re looking forward to more big things from this pair!

With a two hour drive each way, Sabrina came out to scribe all day Friday bringing Sarah Thomas along for the ride who also scribed. With rain in the forecast, Sabrina was still able to recruit 7 additional volunteers for Sunday! Not only did this group save the day on Sunday, they sat out in the rain to do it! How many teens do you know that would volunteer to do that?!

Josie has been helping her mom jump judge for awhile and this time had two jumps of her own, each division! She had great calls, communicated on the walkie-talkie clear and precise and hung in there all day Sunday in the rain with her mom Elyse who had her own group of jumps she was covering. We were very impressed!!

I wish I had several prizes to give out because there were so many amazing volunteers this weekend! You are all so deserving and we are very thankful for your help!

🏆 Twin Rivers Battle of the Barns Winner- Julie & Shelby, SM Eventing

We would not have shows to compete at without the immense contribution volunteers like mother and daughter duo, Julie & Shelby Murray make each year, Volunteering at Area VI events throughout CA.

In 2022, Twin Rivers hosted 3 Eventing competitions where this dynamic duo volunteered a combined total of 110 hours!!!! That’s just between the two of them, all while competing TWO horses.

They not only volunteer at Twin Rivers, but also Ram Tap, Woodside and Galway Downs. They understand that as competitors, we all have to do our part by volunteering, to ensure Area VI continues to have competitions to compete at while keeping entries from drastically increasing.

I honestly could not put into words just how much our volunteer coordinating team appreciates the hard work, knowledge, flexibility and sacrifice both Julie and Shelby make each show to support the riders and sport we all love.

When you see these lovely ladies out volunteering, give them a big THANKS for all they do!!

Volunteer Awards

To reward our volunteers for their hard work throughout the year, the following awards are presented annually.

USEA Volunteer of the Year

The Volunteer of the Year Award is presented annually at the USEA Annual Meeting and Convention. It is given to the volunteer who tops the Volunteer Incentive Program Leaderboard by accumulating the most volunteer hours over the course of the USEA competition year. The winner receives a cash prize of $1,000, a custom “USEA Volunteer of the Year” embroidered jacket, and a memorial trophy.

Volunteer Leaderboard

The top ten volunteers on the Volunteer Incentive Program Leaderboard receive a certificate of acknowledgment at the end of each competition year. The leaderboard may be found on www.EventingVolunteers.com.

Volunteer Medal Program

Since 2020, the VIP Medal Program has recognized the volunteers who consistently serve the sport of eventing year after year. Hours earned are cumulative over a lifetime of volunteer service. Only volunteer hours logged and tallied via eventingvolunteers.com online app will be counted towards the medal program. Awards will be distributed in December of each year. The VIP Medal Program leaderboard is available on eventingvolunteers.com.

Bronze Medal: 500 volunteer hours
