🧠 CT SCAN RESULTS FOR KUROMI 🧠 On Tuesday we took our spunky little cleft girl, Kuromi, for her CT scan. Since we have had her in our care, she has had a bony protrusion from her head. It’s grown as she has grown, but has not caused her any discomfort. Her results show that this protrusion is part of her skull. It’s not a tumor or a growth but it’s how her head was formed. There are two spaces that the skull does not cover her brain😬The internal medicine specialist and the radiologist have not seen a malformation quite like this, but congenital defects have no rules and we are well aware of that as we continue to care for more and more of these amazing animals 🩷👉🏼This is absolutely why we push for these diagnostics. The more veterinarians that our foster animals see, the more veterinarians that can learn about them and gain knowledge. That’s what it’s all about! So what does this all mean for Kuromi? We are going to monitor her, get her a little bigger, and then access for adoption! There should be no reason this special girl can’t find a home that can accommodate her needs. For now she has made some big milestones. She can drink on her own, and she happily eats food from a spoon 🥄 She hesitates to eat from a dish of any sort and we’ve found with the CT scan that she has pharyngeal narrowing. We believe this is why she won’t eat kibble. So it is much easier for her to eat chopped up canned food elevated with a spoon and she can lick it 👅 Kuromi is perfectly imperfect and we are so happy to be on this journey with her. Thank you all that donated so we could get this taken care of🙌🏼
OUR FLUFF TROUGH FUNDRAISER IS LIVE🙌🏼From now until July 28, @flufftrough is donating 20% of their sales to our charity! 👉🏼You MUST enter our code TFC2024 at check out 👈🏼You will not see a discount on your order, the code will mark the sale for them to run a tally of how many of our supporters ordered. I personally have raved about Fluff Trough for years. We got our first elevated dish from them in 2020 for Frank (aka Bolt). He even did a modeling shoot for their website! I recommend it to all of my adopters and I have purchased 5 of my own 😍Our personal dog had neck problems and she benefited from the ergonomically correct design. So much less strain on her neck 🙏🏼Brick has used his since he was a tiny tot. And with his severe BOAS, it helps him not regurg his food. We even have an XL trough for our Aussie, lifts so that it’s tall enough for her, the water hole stainless steel insert, the binge blocker AND the lick mat insert 😮💨😂 I’m telling you it’s the best. So we are so honored to have our fundraiser with them!If you’ve been waiting to get a new dish, don’t wait any longer! Use our code TFC2024 and help our rescue at the same time 😘#flufftrough #flufftroughdining #flufftroughfundraiser #techsforclefts #cleftpupapproved #loyalcustomer #smallbusinesssupport #dogapproved
I have no words 😭❤️ This video captures a milestone I feared Norm and I would never hit…. A moment I have fought for, advocated for, and begged for, for more than 6 wks🙏🏽 Yesterday Norm was able to under go a swallow study aka fluoroscopy at @tuftsvet 🩻 this is a diagnostic test where a puppy is fed multiple different textures of foods (liquid, mushy, and solids) that are coated in a contrast material called Barium, while being in front of a continuous X-ray beam 😱 this allows the veterinarians to be able to visually see how the different kinds of food are swallowed and track their progression down the esophagus and into the stomach! Before this test for Norm, we had already eliminated conditions like, Mega Esophagus, Persistent Right Aortic Arch, and MG…. So we suspected that Norm had a swallowing issue called cricopharyngeal achalasia 😬HOWEVER, during his test, Norm decided to surprise us all 😱 Not only was Norm able to SWALLOW all foods offered to him, but he was able to get liquids AND gelatin food into his stomach 🎉🎉 BUTTTT he did start to have the issues we have been seeing when the food got harder and harder in consistency! When Norm was fed a “harder” food like kibble, instead of traveling all the way through his esophagus into his stomach, the hard food stopped progressing and just sat in his esophagus…. So within 1 min post feeding he hacked all of the hard kibble up 😞So Norm’s official diagnostic, though not fancy, is simply ESOPHAGEAL WEAKNESS 🙌🏻 and while this seems like the wrong thing to be excited about, we are INSANELY relieved that this is something we can work with and won’t require surgical repair 🎉You may be asking yourself, “why hadn’t you tried gelatin food before?” Or “why didn’t you hold him upright while eating before this test” and the simple answer is I DID 😭🙃Norm was fed gelatin food in an upright position at 3 weeks old and 5 weeks old and he exhibited the same s
See more details below👇🏼❤️I would like to introduce you all to “Bandannas for Norm” a fundraiser in support of our little Norm💥Norm is a 4 week old perfectly imperfect pup born who was born with a cleft palate and severe flat chest 💙 this little fighter has already overcome so much… but he is now facing issues with swallowing which puts him at a dangerously high chance of aspirating and developing pneumonia 😔Unfortunately we aren’t sure what is exactly causing this issue, but we know that this sweet boy can’t continue on like this forever ❤️🩹 we are currently in the process of running diagnostics, but we know that we are facing a LARGE vet bill 🩻 we will update you all once we have final numbers, but we are estimating $4,500 in diagnostics alone 😭 and this does not include whatever procedures need to be done in order to fix this issue….We knew that we had to help Norm, but we knew fundraising needed to become a priority, and so “Bandannas for Norm” was born! With Bandannas for Norm, we hope to create a community of 4-legged friends who believe in our little guy as much as we do 🙏🏽❤️ How it will work:⭐️ $15 donation ⭐️Mystery bandana in your size - because these bandanas were handmade by local volunteers, they are all unique! So it is easiest that your donation will be for a surprise pattern chosen by Norm himself 😉 ⭐️1 @techs4clefts waterproof sticker ⭐️1 #NORM-alizeit waterproof sticker designed by @lucybeschh (design will be announced TOMORROW‼️)⭐️Includes shipping⭐️Once donated dm ME (@extralove_fostermom) your size and address ⭐️Payment accepted via Venmo/PayPal: @techsforclefts or Zelle: [email protected] know raising these funds is a HUGE goal, but we are optimistic that with the help of you and the rest of our community that we can make it happen 🤞🏻 but another way you can help is by sharing this post 🙏🏽‼️If this isn’t something you are i
Kuromi here to remind everyone that cats can have clefts too!🙌🏼
It’s so important to make sure anyone who is involved with neonates: breeders, rescues, veterinary clinics, etc are aware of clefts and to look 👀 for them.
A simple glimpse inside the mouth can save a life🙏🏼
Happy #nationalrescuedogday! 🐶✌🏼 what better way to celebrate than an update on Miss Judy with the booty 🍑. She is doing absolutely fabulous in her new home with @brookiiebeee! She is adjusting with ease, enjoying her new family and getting spoiled with @dutchbroscoffee pup cups! For our new followers, Judy was found on Craigslist by a friend who was concerned bc she looked like she could be a hydro pup and the breeder was selling her with breeding rights🫣Some education and a little bit of pleading and the breeder released her into our friends care. Low and behold she definitely is hydro affected and her MRI shows she only has about 5% of her brain 😳 we really did not believe this bc Judy is like any other frenchie. She’s sassy and playful and so….normal! It just proves that a hydro diagnosis is NOT a death sentence!!!Judy is learning every day which is beautiful to see. She has figured out the doggie door at her new home AND went potty outside! 🥹 big steps for a girl with a little brain! We could not do this if it wasn’t for:➡️Having friends that look out for these dogs Ashley Altschuler ➡️Friends that willingly foster and spoil them rotten Christine Marie➡️And a beautiful group of followers who donate and believe in our mission and organization! It brings so much joy when I get these updates. It’s literally the whole reason I do this! And absolutely why I don’t keep every puppy. Their new families get to continue the education and give them all the attention that I couldn’t do if I had 20 dogs! (Not that I wouldn’t love 20 dogs 😆)
Did you spot what makes her special 🤔Our sweet bifid kitty, Chani, is recovering wonderfully from her spay 👏🏼In typical feline fashion, she despised her cone 🤦🏻♀️ sooo she was upgraded to this adorable bodysuit instead 🍭We are still trying to recover from the cost of Chani’s spay 😬 I know this is a big cost, but medical bills are expensive and we try our absolute hardest to ensure our fosters get the best care 🏥 and without our help in raising the funds, we won’t be able to help these special souls 🙏🏽❤️ please consider donating with the link above or with the options below 👇🏼 Venmo/PayPal: @techsforcleftsZelle: [email protected]‼️ALSO‼️ Now that Chani is spayed, fully vaccinated and microchipped she is really ready for her forever home 🥹🏡❤️ since posting her a few weeks after she had gotten ZERO interest 😞 not even one person inquiredI know adult black cats are some of the hardest to place, but it breaks my heart that no one sees how much love she has to give and how much she deserves a family to love her back 🐈⬛ ❤️Chani is a HUGE people person and loves everyone she meets! She isn’t shy and is happy to greet any visitors we have as soon as they come in the door 👋 she is also great with other dogs and cats! Just last weeks I had 8 dogs and 2 cats total in my house and she wasn’t phased! PLEASE help us find this sweet girl the forever home and family she deserves 🙏🏽❤️ if you aren’t her forever, then please share this post! Chani is available for adoption within 3 hours of central Massachusetts! If you are interested in adopting her, please send me a DM or fill out the application linked in my bio 🔗
Different does NOT = damaged 👏 If is time to formally introduce you all to Chani, our bifid nose kitty foster 🐈⬛🪱 Chani came to us after being found as a stray in New York City! She was taken to @nycacc and they reached out to us to see if we could help her 🙏🏽While Chani may have a unique look, it does NOT mean she can’t live an amazing life! She has what is called a bifid nose 👃 this means her nose is divided into two SEPARATE halves 😱 A bifid nose is different than a cleft lip or cleft palate because it doesn’t affect her palate (roof of the mouth)! So unlike our other cleft affected fosters, Chani can eat and drink entirely normally 🎉 In most of our cleft fosters, while they live essentially normal lives, we do have to be cautious about the things they eat for fear of aspirating on it (ex: canned food is a big NO)! For being a stray, Chani is an insanely sweet kitty who just wants to be loved 🥹❤️ she was given her vaccines, flea prevention, FeLV/FIV tested, and dewormed by @nycacc 🙌🏻 so after she has a few weeks to settle in at my house, she will be seen by our vet to run some bloodwork and will be spayed 🩺 Stay tuned to follow this unique girl’s journey and for when she will be (hopefully🤞🏻) be posted for adoption!!
HYDRO DOGS CAN HAVE NORMAL LIVESWe have struggled to find an adopter for Judy☹️Her MRI is tomorrow and we are hoping that will help potential adopters be more confident in filling out the application. 🙏🏼🩷Judy has done incredible with her foster family @kodi_adfrenchures @christinemarie_c She loves to be cuddled, she is great sleep partner 😴 and she walks on a leash. She is crate trained. Potty training is pretty good, but hydro pups can be a little difficult to fully potty train. But 80% of the time she’s going outside. Please keep this girly in your thoughts as we prep for tomorrow’s procedure. We thank each and every one of you who have donated so we could do this 🧠
