We made it home! What a day. We totaled 908 miles traveled over 3 days. 6 gliders to new homes, cages delivered, and one sweet little girl named Stormy came home with us to the rescue. Now to finish up chores at the rescue and call it a night.
Thank you to all that donated and supported us through this trip. We couldn’t have done it without you. We will post a dedicated thank you to all of the wonderful donors tomorrow, because tonight we are spent. ♥️
The last leg of our journey is the longest. Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois and then home to Wisconsin.
For those that feel inclined to donate to help us through this trip, donations can be made through Venmo to @GliderGirl. We’ve got about 400 miles left to go on this trip. Help with gas and road snacks is always appreciated ♥️
If you see the Glider-mobile out on the road snap a picture and send it to us!!
Tornado Glider Safety
As we prepare for our big trip tomorrow, unfortunately we are also prepping for bad storms and tornadoes through our area here in southern Wisconsin.
What’s the best way to keep your glider safe in a tornado warning? Here’s a few tips to make a scary situation a bit easier.
1. Always have a bonding bag or small travel cage ready during storm season. Something you can grab quickly should a tornado be in your area.
2. It’s a good idea to have a glider approved kibble on hand in case of emergency. If you lose power or access to frozen prepped staple, having kibble as a back up can buy you time for your gliders.
3. Odd weather can agitate your gliders. They may be more active than normal, or possibly reactive and scared. This may make transferring your gliders to a pouch or travel cage difficult. Be prepared for runners and spooked gliders.
4. Always have an emergency kit packed. A backpack with extra pouches, fleece, kibble, and basic emergency glider supplies works wonders in a storm emergency.
5. Our gliders can pick up on our emotions. The calmer you are the more calm your gliders are apt to be.
Having a plan in place before a storm is key. Stay safe out there!
As part of our Guardian Angel sponsorship program sponsors can request personalized videos of their chosen glider. This was a special anniversary message from Oreo to Beth and Mike. Happy 6th Anniversary and thank you for supporting Oreo! ♥️♥️
Made it home safe and sound. A HUGE thank you to Dalton, Jordyn, Lisa, Kimberly, Tova and Joy. Your donations not only met our gas goal but greatly overshot it!! We can’t thank all of you enough! We will be using the overage toward vetting for our 4 new sanctuary members. Our two new blind babies will need updated ocular exams in addition to their standard wellchecks and fecals, so this truly is a blessing.
Thank you to all that made this trip possible. We couldn’t have done it without the generous donors, the gracious owner that drove 7 hours herself from New Jersey to meet us, and all of our community cheering us on.
Now to settle everyone in and get thier cage together. Because two of the 4 are blind we want to keep thier enclosure as similar as possible so as not to cause added stress.
I have safely arrived in Cleveland after an absolutely WILD drive. I left Wisconsin with 14 inches of snow on the ground, hit a blizzard in the middle of northern Indiana for almost exactly an hour, and then was greeted by green grass in Ohio???But never the less, our 4 new gliders are secured, cozy and settled into their temporary digs for the night. Those of you that knew our Dashie will know tears welled up when meeting Nala, a beautiful old lady Cremino with moonstone eyes. Nala and her daughters Pendragon (also blind), Ponyo and Calcifer will be joining our sanctuary program as permanent members.
Off on our first rescue trip of the year!! Northern Wisconsin here we come! 520 miles ahead of us and 6 sugar gliders to bring to GGR.
If you would like to support our trip, donations through PayPal or Venmo help us tremendously!

As 2023 draws to a close we find ourselves reflecting on this incredible year in rescue.
17,657 miles were driven this year to deliver gliders to new homes, to transport animals from rescue to rescue, and to bring animals in need to GGR.
2023 brought 107 gliders through our programs, with many going to other rescues, some joining our sanctuary program, and 47 gliders finding homes this year.
We have made 209 glider grocery runs, totalling $8400 in glider food alone.
It was a light year for vet fees, but we came to a little over $6000 this year. Thank you to our incredible vets at Spartan Animal Hospital, Yorkville Animal Hospital, and VCA of Middleton. We love you all!
A giant thank you and Merry Christmas to all of our sponsors and donors this holiday season. Our rescue is completely donation funded as a nonprofit. We couldn’t do this work without you and we are so incredibly greatful for your generosity and support.
Another thank you to all that donated produce and frozen goods. You have no idea how much of an impact your gifts make. To those that have found us through the buy nothing and janesville farmers market groups, we appreciate you so much!
Happy Holidays to all of our amazing community, to our adopters, to our fosters and partners, to our fellow rescuers, and to our volunteers from all of us here at Glider Girl Rescue!!
