A little good news!

Wetland conditions have dramatically improved for ducks in the Dakotas over the last few weeks. Despite a relatively dry and mild winter, spring rains have filled some seasonal and temporary basins that are important to breeding waterfowl.

Day 63,64,65/72…..
The past 3 days flew bye!! Only 7 days left in the season!! The hunts matched the weather, crazy and unpredictable! Crane season ended with the birds winning, still a great run! Rain will hit the prairies starting tonight, it will make for a muddy finish to a drought start! Be safe!! We have some openings Thursday thru Sunday!

Day 57,58/72….
Weekend was very busy! No wind,blowing wind, crazy weather!
January is an unpredictable time of the year. Some great hunts, sprinkle in some slower hunts, add a little not sure what to think and that’s the weekend! We did host the Texas Youth program, sponsored by TPWD. These kids were awesome! Tip of the hat to the program! We are resting the farm and let this weather settle down. Stay warm, be safe!

Rain and wind the last 2 days.
We had some good hunts, but the weather can’t make it harder.
Wind laying down tonight. Next two mornings we are lite. Get ready for the big front!

It’s the tale of which blind! Some are hot, some are simmering and a couple have been cold! Sheet water has the birds scattered, but the guides were able to keep the clients on the X! John and Jim kept the hunters fed! Thanks again to our partners at Bellville Meat Market! Crazy busy and we are blessed! Hunters tonight from Iowa, Louisiana and Missouri

Good wind, but the gray skies made it tough. Not much pressure around us, not much of a flight either day. Still had a couple of good hunts. 1.5” across the farm.

Happy New Years!! Cloud cover and some north wind greeted the groups this morning. Had a couple of good ones, with one slow hunt.
Rain forecasted for the week, we will take it! Be safe!!

No wind, tough conditions greeted our groups. We had a good goose hunt, the duck hunts were slower, but good duck numbers.

Day 43&44/72….
Thursday was tough hunting on the farm. Full moon and light wind did us no favors. Friday morning we had more wind and the moon one notch dimmer. Both days birds were on the move, just tough to work. Today had some better hunts and each day should get better as the moon goes away.

As we opened back the lodge in El Campo, I snuck back to my roots. I took Rhody and a couple of the guides back to where it began for me. The Oyster Bayou Hunting Club has been in the Anahuac marsh since 1974. Gene and Bob Campbell have been my mentors and good friends since 1978. I started guiding there in the early 80’s. There are some pictures of me on the wall that make me smile!! Great times visiting and catching up. Also got to see my friend Tim Wolford, a guides guide and even a better person! What memories! I’ve built and modeled my business from Gene, a true leader. If you want a great experience, look them up, first class! Rhody enjoyed the boat ride, 600 decoys, Cope the yellow lab, and marsh buzzing green wings. Make some memories!!

Full moon and light wind did the boys no favors. But, the duck numbers were very good after our break. Beautiful birds now, the trophy quest has begun! Busy tonight at the lodge, blessed everyday!! Be safe!

Day 38/72……
Hit or miss was the best way to describe yesterday. Clear, fog, no wind, Mother Nature couldn’t make up her mind! We need a break, the farm will rest and we can spend some time at home!
