With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we wanted to take a moment to talk about a common, but serious, disease that becomes increasingly common around the holidays…Pancreatitis!

Pancreatitis is an inflammatory disease in dogs that causes swelling of the pancreas, often due to a meal/diet that is high in fat. Obesity and other pre-existing conditions can raise an animals risk factor, however Pancreatitis is most common in dogs.

Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, inappetence, abdominal pain, lethargy and more.

Some Pancreatitis cases can become so severe that hospitalization is required or a long term strict diet. Most Pancreatitis cases are acute and can be treated with care and medication, but Pancreatitis can become chronic and even fatal if left untreated.

This Holiday season, as much as your pets may beg for a taste of your delicious dinner, please consider the risks involved and what negative consequences could happen after a serving of stuffing & gravy!

As many of you know, in the wake of Hurricane Helene, local animal shelters are in dire need of supplies and support. At our Johnson City location, we are teaming up with PetSmart to help provide much needed supplies during this period of recovery.
PetSmart is carrying pre-made bags available to purchase & donate to sponsor individual animals at the shelters. We are also accepting donations at our offices including (but not limited to) cat/dog food, cat litter, litter boxes, toys, treats, puppy pads, blankets, towels, beds, food bowls, etc.
We are thrilled by the overwhelming support thus far & are so appreciative and proud of our community helping one another navigate this unprecedented time - Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.

Also, the Jonesborough Community Chest has been actively collecting supplies (human and pet) in downtown Jonesborough. They need volunteers throughout this week. And they need more pet supplies (food, litter, litter boxes, etc.). You can donate and sign up to volunteer with them at the Jonesborough First Baptist Church. You can also drop off some pet supplies at our Jonesborough location this week during regular business hours. We can take pet supplies to the First Baptist Church this Thursday and Friday. Follow Jonesborough Community Chest to see what other supplies are needed as they post daily.

Unfortunately, we will be closing at 12:30pm. Petsmart has to close and we are not permitted to use the shared building when they are not open. We are so sorry for the inconvenience! Airport Pet Emergency (Blountville) and the new Foundations Animal Hospital (Jonesborough) are both open if you need anything! Stay safe out there!
