🌟🚜 Ranch Life Update: All Hands (and Hooves) on Deck at Blessed Hooves Ranch! 🐴🛠

It’s been a whirlwind of activity here! Yesterday was all about sprucing up our arena – from edging out the old footing to a thorough grooming and starting our much-needed dust treatment. 🌾✨

Eric's been a hero, too! He picked up materials to build two horse fly traps to tackle our buzzing adversaries that have been more persistent this season. 🪰 He’s taking the morning to put them together, aiming to bring some comfort to our four-legged friends.

Amidst the busyness, we've continued enhancing our fly control measures with additional traps and our trusty fly predators. And guess what? Our feathered friends, a flock of turkeys, made a cameo in track 3 this morning – always a delightful sight! 🦃🍂

Plus, we're keeping a close eye on the herd dynamics as we welcome the newest member, Sunny, into our family. It's all about harmony and happiness here at the ranch!

🌟🎉 Happy 13th Birthday to my heart horse, Hollywood! 🎂🐴 Today, we’re celebrating the diva of the stable, our charismatic charmer who lights up every path and every heart he meets. Hollywood might be high maintenance, but his joyful spirit and gentle guidance with new riders make every moment with him truly special.

From being the ultimate ladies' man (yes, he's quite the player!) to pioneering new trails in the woods, Hollywood has shown us many incredible sights of God’s majestic creation.

Advice from a trucker.
If this is how you trailer your horse on the drivers side, please stop it immediately. Yesterday made the 3rd time in recent years that I’ve had to put a semi in the ditch (maintained control, not wrecked) to keep from decapitating your equestrian friend with his head 3 1/2 ft. over the center line on a narrow road. Thank you!

🦃🌄 What a morning surprise on track 3! Eric spotted a flock of at least 12 turkeys parading around. No pics this time, but it’s safe to say our horses are getting an unexpected desensitization session. It's always exciting to see wildlife join us, adding a little extra nature therapy to our day.

As we gear up for Independence Day celebrations, it's essential to remember our equine companions. Fireworks can be exciting for us but frightening for horses. Here are some tips to help keep your horses safe and stress-free during the festivities:

Secure Stabling: House your horses in a secure area to shield them from the loud fireworks.

Soundproofing: Use soundproofing techniques or play soothing music in the barn to help drown out the explosive sounds.

Stay Calm: Your calm presence can provide great comfort to your horses during noisy celebrations.

Check Fencing: Ensure that all fences are secure to prevent any spooked escapes.

🪰 Mayfly, Mayfly... Fly Fly Away. Don't Come Back Another Day! 🪰

The Mayflies have arrived, and your role in managing stable operations becomes even more important. Here are some crucial tips to keep those pesky mayflies at bay and protect horses:

1. Turn Off Lights: Switch off lights over water troughs at night to avoid attracting mayflies.

2. Scoop Dead Mayflies: Regularly clean out dead mayflies from water sources to keep them fresh and safe.

3. Check Your Hay: Inspect hay for any surface contamination to ensure it's clean and healthy.

4. Cover Water Sources: Use covers or nets over water troughs to prevent mayflies from getting in.

5. Stable Management: Keep stables clean and reduce standing water around the area to limit mayfly breeding grounds.

Your actions play a vital role in preventing Potomac horse fever. It's important to remember that while you can vaccinate for Potomac horse fever it does not guarantee a horse will not get Potomac horse fever and it takes about 3-4 weeks after the second dose to take full effect. So, if you're considering vaccination, time is of the essence!

I had the privilege of taking Raina on horseback for the first time at Cuivre, and with my bestie. Someone was ducking the camera until she found the giant tree to climb. 😆 It was an impromptu ride Friday, and much needed. We rode roughly 8 miles, and aside from the 20 degree drop, it was a blast!
