DESPERATE NEED OF A FOSTER ASAP!

A shelter has reached out for help with an approx. 4-year-old female who was part of a seizure for neglect from a mill. She is 100% deaf and NOT doing well at the shelter. She is on the list to be euthanized as she is going downhill daily.

She is great with people, LOVES to be around the humans. She needs a gentle dog in her foster home to show her the ropes. She will show her teeth to a dog who gets in her face or is too bouncy, but mainly tries to avoid conflict. With a calm, gentle dog she would do well.

She can NOT be crated - she panics and WILL hurt herself. If left alone she will howl so no apartments, please. She needs TLC, time, patience, love and loads of confidence building. She will be a work in progress but so deserves a chance.

If you can help PLEASE fill out the online foster application asap at

FOSTER HOME FOUND!! THANKS EVERYONE!!

Searching for a foster for a lovely 9-year-old Rough Collie boy. Sadly his dad passed away this week and he'd like a soft place to land while he waits for his new family to love him to bits. He is a nice boy, good with dogs, people, kids. He is not high energy and would love a fenced yard to lay in, a few slower walks each day.

If you can foster please fill out the online application found at www.herdaboutrescue.com. Replies here may be missed so if you have questions, email [email protected]. The best way, though, to start the process, including questions, is to fill out the application.
Thanks!!

Meet Sunny
If you feel Sunny is a good match for your family please FULLY read his bio, then visit the Herd About Rescue website at www.herdaboutrescue.com and fill out the online adoption application found there, after reading the adoption process (also found on the www.herdaboutrescue.com website).

Name: Sunny
Breed: Border Collie
Age: 5+ years
Gender: Male
Dogs: No Dogs (BUT would love to be adopted with his brother, Flayme)
Cats: Yes (herding dog savvy cats)
Kids: Ages 16+
Special Needs: Deaf
MUST haves: Fully fenced yard, breed knowledge.

Meet Sunny, a super special boy looking for a super special home. He is 5 years old and fully deaf - someone who understands being deaf isn't all of who Sunny is will be needed. He does everything any other dog does, in a typical Border Collie way, except hear you (he understands hand signals for commands though!).

Sunny would truly love to find a home with his brother, Flayme. They have lived together for a long time now, and Sunny looks to Flayme for guidance as he navigates new things. Although Sunny is good with Flayme, is is not comfortable with most other dogs and if he cannot be with Flayme, he will need a dog-free home/environment.

He is great with dog savvy cats and will be fine with a few kitty companions, and is also good with kids aged 10+ (smaller children may be a bit much for a true herder like Sunny). Although Sunny is a typical Border Collie is most ways (he loves to chase the ball if you will throw it over and over for him), he is actually more a medium-energy type boy. He will require a fully-fenced yard to romp in, but also to stay safe as he is deaf and will not hear a recall if he gets too far away.

Sunny will need time to adjust in a new home/environment. If he is adopted with his brother, Flayme, he will acclimate quicker, but in general he is not a big fan of change. He will be unsure at first but once Flayme knows he is safe, he is an affectionate, loving boy who is a funny, goofy boy. He likes to nap and cuddle on the couch with you, and will let you know he needs out to potty with a whine or bark. Sunny is currently used to being outdoors many times during the day but he is also okay crated for 4-5 hours (max) at a time. Someone who works from home would be ideal for Sunny (and Flayme too!).

He is very food motivated and is fun to work and train with. Someone interested in continuing obedience-type work with Sunny will enjoy working with him. Border Collie people will understand the importance of keeping their brains just as busy as keeping their bodies active.

Sunny is an affectionate, loving boy who is gentle and friendly, who can also be timid and shy, needing time each time he encounters new things. He is worth the time it takes and someone will have a loyal, loving companion if they have patience with him.

If you feel Sunny is a good match for your family please FULLY read his bio, then visit the Herd About Rescue website at www.herdaboutrescue.com and fill out the online adoption application found there, after reading the adoption process (also found on the www.herdaboutrescue.com website).

Meet Riley

If you feel Riley is a good match for your family please FULLY read her bio, then visit the Herd About Rescue website at www.herdaboutrescue.com and fill put the online adoption application found there, after reading the adoption process (also found on the www.herdaboutrescue.com website).

Name: Riley
Breed: Australian Shepherd (Aussie)
Age: 2+ years
Gender: Female
Dogs: No Dogs
Cats: No Cats
Kids: Ages 16+
Special Needs: No
MUST haves: Needs an active home, NO other animals, who knows the breed well.

Miss Riley is an absolutely stunning Aussie girl who is searching for a very special place to call home. She is amazing with her people and will be a loyal, loving companion in the right home. She does not want to share space with other animals, however, and will not be a candidate for doggie sports or dog parks. But there are so many other ways to share your life with Riley that those things don't even matter in the right environment.

Riley is a good girl for grooms and nail trims and doesn't mind being brushed at all. She would love a big backyard to run and romp in, and a human to throw her frisbee for her (over and over - Aussies, right?!). While she is good on-leash, she is generally soft muzzled as she can be reactive to other dogs and strangers. Someone willing to work with her going forward on her "meet and greet" skills would be perfect for her but as long as her new family understands that she does loves walks, but doesn't want to use them to meet new friends, will be okay too.

With her own humans, Riley is a snuggly girl who loves attention and affection. When she is the only animal in the home she settles and relaxes and is her normal, happy girl self. She loves to play and is typical in all things Aussie (lots of play time and brain games are key to keeping her tired out).

When Riley arrived in foster care she had several potty accidents. This has stopped and we believe she was very stressed by her move. Please be aware she may have accidents when arriving to a new home again but WILL sort herself out. Patience is required with all things Riley!

Riley can exhibit some separation anxiety when left alone (again, it's unclear now if that is a symptom of her moving from her previous home). We are working with the vet with some anti-anxiety medications and will update as we go along with those. Right now, though, she is easily kenneled and will require a large crate to be in while you are out. Someone home most of the day or a work-from-home human is her ideal place to live.

If you feel Riley is a good match for your family please FULLY read her bio, then visit the Herd About Rescue website at www.herdaboutrescue.com and fill put the online adoption application found there, after reading the adoption process (also found on the www.herdaboutrescue.com website).

THIS IS NOW FILLED! THANKS EVERYONE!

Saturday, October 12th:

I know it's Thanksgiving weekend but we are hoping to move Samson, an approx. 3-year-old Pyrnees mix from the shelter he's currently in to his foster home with Herd About Rescue in Hearst. Samson is an intact male (to be neutered in care), good on-leash, good with people but, true to the breed, will be shy and hesitant with everyone.

If you can help, please send your full name, your email address, cell number, vehicle make and colour, and plate number to [email protected].

Meet Zeena

If you feel Zeena is a good match for your family please FULLY read her bio, then visit the Herd About Rescue website at www.herdaboutrescue.com and fill put the online adoption application found there, after reading the adoption process (also found on the www.herdaboutrescue.com website).

Name: Zeena
Breed: Malinois / GSD mix
Age: 18 months
Gender: Female
Dogs: Most but is "the boss"
Cats: Yes
Kids: 8+
Special Needs: No
MUST haves: VERY active family required, MUST understand the breed

Meet Miss Zeena, who is searching for a home where she will have a job, be involved in doggie sports, take her everywhere with them....keep her busy, busy, busy. Zeena is all-Malinois in her energy and exercise needs. Hiking, jogging, cross-country skiing. All things Zeena wants to do with you!!

Zeena is good with people of all ages but she WILL jump up on (and knock over) smaller kids. Ages 8+ are, in general, a good age for her to romp around with. She is good with the cats in her foster home, but a dog savvy cat will be best. With dogs, Zeena is good with most but would love to be The Boss. She would be just fine as an only dog in her new home though as she bonds closely with her people and loves to be with them as much as possible.

Keeping Zeena crated 8+ hours will NOT work for her. One word will sums up the amount of exercise she needs daily - Malinois. If you do not know the breed, please research what they can do. It's fascinating and amazing and, in the wrong home, a complete disaster! Someone interested in attending several levels of obedience, doing any of the doggie sports (she will be an absolute STAR!), and/or a very active lifestyle will be required for her. Someone who wants a dog to take to work with them would work for her! Anyone who lives this life will LOVE this girl. Her previous owner did some great work with her and she is a happy, loving, booouncy girl.

A big yard to run, run, run in would be perfect. She loves to play with toys of all kinds and if her people will play with them too, it's super fun for Zeena. Tug, toss my baby, chuck the ball - anything to keep her running. She also would love a few interactive toys to keep her mind busy as well. Left to her own devices outside, she will dig holes to lie in (which is 100% typical of the breed).

While we wouldn't classify her as a food or toy guarder, she will covet high value items such as a good meaty bone (which are amazing to keep her busy!). She will give other animals an appropriate "go away" signal (eye contact and a low growl). She does not guard anything from humans. She was, however, born in a puppy mill and food is "a thing". She eats like it's her first, and maybe last, meal ever. A slow feeder works well, or even spending 20 minutes doing training and using dinner as treats during sessions.

Her foster mom describes her as having "no fear". She's just a happy, out-going girl who is up for anything. She's confident and affectionate and truly just a lovely, lovely girl. The best combination of sweet and ready for adventure at the drop of a hat.

If you feel Zeena is a good match for your family please FULLY read her bio, then visit the Herd About Rescue website at www.herdaboutrescue.com and fill put the online adoption application found there, after reading the adoption process (also found on the www.herdaboutrescue.com website).

Meet P.J.

If you feel P.J. is a good match for your family, please fully read the adoption process found at www.herdaboutrescue.com and fill in the online adoption application before sending an inquiry. We can only respond to those who have submitted an application. Thanks for understanding.

Fostered In: Perth, ON

Name: PJ
Age: 6-7 years
Breed: Rough Collie
Dogs: Yes (needs another dog in his new home)
Cats: Yes
Kids: 12+
Special Needs: 100% deaf, 100% blind
MUST haves: Fully fenced yard, another laid-back dog in the home

P.J. is a super sweet boy who navigates the world by mapping his areas and once that is done, he gets along just fine. He can do one or two steps, can navigate his yard outside, knows exactly where his food and water dishes are and where his doggie pool is to cool off when he's warm outside.

He would love another laid-back dog in his new home, one who will let him play "jump and find me" with him! He also loves to play with his humans, and, like a lot of the blind dogs, will use his mouth to grab and nibble on arms and legs. He does occasionally like to to a sneaky bum nip if he can creep up behind you! P.J. is not an active boy by any means, and doesn't need much in the way of daily walks (although he is good on leash!). He is good with some play time in the yard and then he likes to lay outside and feel the air and sniff all the things wafting by. By far though, P.J.'s favourite thing is to sleep. He's a napper.

While P.J. is good in the house, "well-behaved" is sort of subjective. He gets into....everything. He loooooves to explore. Using his nose and his mouth are how P.J. navigates the world, so finding random things to toss around and play with make him very excited! SOCK = YAY! DISHTOWEL = YAY! SHOE = YAY! He cannot be left unattended when loose as he will get into anything and everything. He does NOT like a crate, however, so best for him is an area that is babygated (a room with the door open and a baby gate across for example), where he can still smell and sense the goings on of the house but stay safe at the same time.

P.J. knows several touch signals (come, sit, lie down). Someone who wanted to spend time to teach him more will find him easy to work with as he's super smart and very food motivated!

P.J. is an easy dog in that he just wants a soft bed, a place in the yard, lots of naps, and good butt and ear scritches. He's a happy, affectionate boy who is also independent and happy to do his own thing if you are busy. He is a BIG boy with a profuse coat and needs regular grooming. He is not a fan of home brushing and will try to take the brush from you, or play, or get grumpy....anything to stop the brushing. He's better at the groomer's by far.

If you feel P.J. is a good match for your family, please fully read the adoption process found at www.herdaboutrescue.com and fill in the online adoption application before sending an inquiry. We can only respond to those who have submitted an application. Thanks for understanding.

Meet Mia

If you feel Mia is a good fit for your family, please fully read the adoption process found at www.herdaboutrescue.com and fill in the adoption application found there before sending an inquiry.

Name: Mia
Age: 4 years
Breed: Saint Bernard
Dogs: Yes
Cats: Yes
Kids: 12+ (due to her size)
Special Needs: No
Must Haves: Fenced yard or willing to work on her leash skills

Meet pretty Miss Mia! She is a big girl with big hugs and big love to give you! She wants a family who is fun and out-going, just like herself. She would love another dog in the home, around her size, that she can wrestle and play with. She does sometimes like to be a bit bossy with other dogs, so a laid-back canine pal who won't over-react to her bouncy style is required. She is good with dogs, cats, and people of all sizes. She is happy to greet new humans with a tail wag and while she is good with kids, she is a big girl, and children aged 12 and up will be best for Mia.

Mia has some issues surrounding food. She will snap for treats when you hand them to her as she gets over-excited with anything edible. She also gulps her food like she hasn't eaten in forever. She needs a slow feeder and multiple meals per day. She would guard her food from her foster mom when she first arrived but has made great strides here, she now knows to sit and wait while the food dish is put down. Continuing to work with her this way will see even more improvement.

Mia isn't super barky BUT she will let you know when cars and people are passing. Being a big dog she has a big bark, so can appear louuuud.

She will need someone home at least part of the day. She really loves being with her humans and will follow you around all day long. While is she crate trained, she isn't super happy about it. Throw in some treats and she will go in willingly, but will whine for while once the door closes.

For a Saint Bernard she is actually higher energy than you might expect and needs lots of run time in the yard with her doggie pal. A good long walk every day would be good for her as well. She looooooves her toys and one of her favourite things is to rip up blankets and stuffies.

Mia will make someone a very special companion and will love her humans to bit. She would like to find a home where that great big love is reciprocated!

If you feel Mia is a good fit for your family, please fully read the adoption process found at www.herdaboutrescue.com and fill in the adoption application found there before sending an inquiry
