Karma Clumber Spaniels

While I was gathering photos for the CSCA's annual slideshow of dogs who earned performance titles during the previous year, I was somewhat stunned to realize that we put performance titles on 5 dogs last year-- 2 in scent work and 3 in hunting.

First shout out to Abbey, our matriarch and current elderstateswoman, who earned titles in scent work last year, continuing the march towards her advanced overall level title. She is GCH Bluemoonrysn Pours Tripel Karmeliet for Karma SWN SHDN SBA SCA.

Even more exciting was my realization that the other titles were earned by 4 out of Sybbie's 6 kids! They are:

*Midge (from Sybbie's 2019 litter), who also titled in scentwork. Midge is CH Karma's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel SCN, SBN, SEN

*Sophie (2019 litter), who earned titles in field work last year, culminating in her Senior Hunter Advanced title. She is CH Karma's Put That On Your Plate SHA.

*Walter (2019 litter), who earned his Junior Hunter title last year. He is Karma's Breaking Bad JH. (Special thank you to Walter's primary owner Susan Rogers for allowing Michael to continue working with Walter in the field!)

*Chance (singleton, 2020 litter) earned his Working Dog certificate last year. He is Karma's Bet Big WD.

So proud and excited to share that Michael & Sophie went to South Carolina for the Wateree Spaniel Club's Fall hunt test and came away with Sophie's 3rd Master Hunter Q under judges Kim and Bethann Wiley. Nothing makes a long drive feel shorter than dash candy! 3 legs down, 2 more to go for Sophie's MH title.

Way to go Michael & Sophie!

So SO proud of the Karma Clumbers this weekend! Yesterday, at the Fox River Field Sla iel Club's annual hunt test, Karma's Breaking Bad JH (Walter) earned an orange ribbon at Senior. Today sister Sophie, CH Karma's Put That On Your Plate SHA earned her 2nd orange ribbon at the Master level. Congratulations Michael, Sophie, and Walter! Congratulations to Walter's owner Susan Rogers, and thank you for allowing us to steal Walter for training & testing!

I cannot describe how exciting it is to watch dogs that we bred excel at the job they were bred to do.

Happy 3rd birthday to Sybbie's first litter of 4 girls, 1 boy by Ciderhouse Willow's Legacy SH (Forest). On this date in 2019, I sat by the whelping box watching Sybbie & the new puppies while Michael whipped us up as sumptious Thanksgiving repast of roasted chicken and mashed potatoes. We ate dinner on a grooming table in the puppy room. (Yes, Sybbie was scheduled for a c section that Monday but the puppies weren't "ready" until Thursday. We so appreciated the vet waiting for the right time & taking great care of Mama & babies!)

Not to be outdone by her sister and Gramma, Sophie had a good weekend finishing the hunt test season down in Georgia. Yesterday she earned her 4th qualifying score at the Senior level, thus completing her Senior Hunter title! Today she earned a bonus Senior Q!

We are extremely proud of this young girl who earned her JH in her first 4 tests earlier in the year-- the first of which were also in Georgia-- and then moved up to Senior. She will be 3 later this month & loves playing this game with Michael!

Day 2 of the WWCDTC scentwork trial today!

Abbey was only entered in Buried Advanced, and she earned 2 more Qs in that element today, thus earning her Buried Advanced element title with a bonus Q. She had 4 passes in 4 runs. Good girl Abbey!

She is now GCH Bluemoonrysn Pours Tripel Karmeliet for Karma SWN SHDN SBA*

Midge was entered in Buried Novice and Exterior Novice. She earned 2 more Qs in Exteriors, thus earning her Novice Exterior element and gaining the first letters behind her name. I'm so proud of this young girl who earned placements with 4 of her 5 Qs weekend and improved her pass rate from 50% yesterday to 75% today! Good girl Midge.

Abbey and Midge attended the WWCDTC Scent Work trial today.

Abbey was entered in Buried only, rocked both of her runs (in spite of the handler getting confused in Trial 2), and brought home 2 green qualifying ribbons. She needs 1 more Q for her Buried Advanced element title, so 🤞 for tomorrow.

Midge ended up with 1 Q each in Buried and Exteriors and managed a 4th place ribbon as well. (Ribbons are in the car, but I think the 4th was in Buried.)

Good job girls. Great watching friends do well with their dogs, too. We are looking forward to tomorrow!

Another great Fox River Field Spaniel Club hunt test weekend in the books! As always, we enjoyed the beautiful venue out at Ottawa Field Trial Grounds, the camaraderie with fellow dog enthusiasts, and the chance to watch so many beautiful dogs work. Thank you to the Club, to all of the judges and volunteers, and to the friends who came out to support & socialize!

As icing on the cake, littermates Sophie (Karma's Put That On Your Plate JH) and Walter (Karma's Breaking Bad) each added another orange ribbon. Sophie now has 3 "legs" towards her SH and needs 1 more Q to title; Walter has 2 JH legs and needs 2 more to complete his title. Both dogs did really solid work and earned many compliments in addition to their ribbons. Congratulations to trainer/owner, Michael Finnegan, who handled both dogs in addition to co-chairing the event and working tirelessly in the field both days! Congratulations to Walter's owner, Sue Rogers, and our thanks for allowing Walter to come out and play in the field.

Littermates Sophie (Karma's Put That On Your Plate JH) and Walter (Karma's Breaking Bad) spent the weekend at the West Allis Training Kennel Club's Fall hunt test. They both had a great day yesterday, Walter earning his first Junior Hunter leg in his debut test, and Sophie earning her second Senior Hunter leg. They are out of Sybbie's first litter (Ciderhouse Willow's Legacy SH x CH Karma's Lady Sybil JH).

Walter is owned by Susan Rogers (pictured), co-owned by us, and trained/handled by Michael. We are grateful to Sue for everything she does for Walter, including graciously allowing him to come out and play in the field with Michael.

Sophie is owned by us and is breeder-owner trained and handled by Michael.

Continuing the longstanding tradition of Clumber Spaniels hunting on Labor Day weekend, Sophie (Karma's Put That On Your Plate JH, Forest x Sybbie) ran in the Minnesota Hunting Spaniel Association hunt test this weekend where she earned her first qualifying score at the senior level. Video is from her water mark on Saturday. Sophie is breeder/owner trained & handled by Michael Finnegan. Thanks to the judges, volunteers and club for holding a quality event. Thanks also to our training partners at Lighthouse & Whirlwynn Kennels for their continued assistance and support with the field work of our troops.

In addition to Midge's new championship title, we are happy to share that both Midge and Sophie received "normal" thyroid results, as shown on the OFA website.

Midge got mail! She is now CH Karma's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Now to work on getting some letters after her name also!

Midge is sired by Forest, Ciderhouse Willow's Legacy SH, and out of our Sybbie, CH Karma's Lady Sybil JH. She is currently training in scent work.

So proud to share our results from the CSCA's 50th anniversary hunt test! Sophie earned her 3rd and 4th junior Qs on Saturday and Sunday to earn her title at the National Specialty Hunt Test and, pending AKC confirmation, is now Karma's Put That On Your Plate JH. At just over 2 years of age, she finished her title with 4 passes in 4 tests. We are thrilled with this promising young girl.

Her mother, Sybbie, earned her 1st SH Q yesterday. Only 3 to go!

Sophie made her hunt test debut this past weekend at the hunt test hosted by the Boykin Spaniel Club. We are very proud to share that she earned 2 qualifying scores this weekend, owner-handled by Michael Finnegan and is halfway to her JH title! Thanks to judges Sue Myers and Venée Gardner. Thanks to the Boykin Club for all their energy and efforts in putting on the event. We were made very welcome, and the hospitality was much appreciated.

Chance, now "Louie," is one year old today! Since time no longer has any meaning, it's heard to believe a year has gone by already. Happy birthday Baby Boy!

Baby took his bone and asked to be lifted up onto the futon. I was happy to oblige since it meant an end to him trying to "kill" my pants legs!

After a fun weekend in South Dakota, I am pleased to say that Midge, piloted by me, was WB on Saturday. Michael got pressed into handling duty this weekend also, and Sunday he beat me with Sophie, who was WB and BOS.

The Karma Clumbers + the Amazing Penny (visiting Golden Retriever) enjoying a run at the dog park this evening. So nice for the dogs to be able to run loose sniffing while we humans amble along behind. Penny found a tennis ball, which Branson later ended up with. He was pleased as punch he managed to keep it away from the other Clumbers. Abbey was sad as finding park balls is usually her thing.

Our dear friend Sue Rogers sent this series of photos to illustrate that Walter can absolutely retrieve a bird out of the water.

Walter is Karma's Breaking Bad (Forest x Sybbie), littermate to our Sophie & Midge (and Lulu who was featured the other day). Walter is owned by Sue and bred and co-owned by us. Not surprisingly, as well as being a gentleman of leisure, he is also learning to hunt.
