Someone told us we almost missed National Cat Day! Of course we had to take the opportunity to share our handsome clinic cat who came to us after an injury nearly cost him his eye. Our doctors and staff managed to save his eye, and now he thinks he runs the clinic. We love you O’Malley!

Today is , a reminder that knowing how to save a life—especially our furry friends—can make all the difference. While having to administer CPR to your pet can be terrifying, being prepared can help you act calmly and confidently in an emergency.

Stay Calm:
1️⃣ Breathe: Take a few deep breaths to steady yourself. Focus on the feeling of the air filling your lungs.
2️⃣ Delegate: If there are bystanders, assign them tasks like finding the nearest emergency vet.
3️⃣ Focus: Keep your mind clear. Concentrate on the steps ahead and stay in the moment.

When to Start CPR:
🐾 Your pet isn’t responding
🐾 Your pet isn’t breathing
🐾 You can’t feel a heartbeat or pulse

How to Perform CPR:
Compressions:
❤️ Position your pet on their side.
❤️ Deliver 120 compressions per minute (2 per second).
❤️ For every 30 compressions, give 2 breaths.

Breaths:
❤️ Close your pet’s mouth and seal it with your fingers.
❤️ Cover their nose with your mouth and give 2 breaths—enough to make their chest rise.
❤️ Check for a heartbeat after 2 minutes. If there’s no pulse, continue.

When to Stop CPR:
🐾 Your pet starts breathing and responding
🐾 You reach the vet clinic and they take over
🐾 You can’t continue physically
🐾 Your pet starts breathing but is still unconscious

Recovery Position:
Place your pet’s head to the side, slightly tilting down (unless there’s head trauma).

Compression Techniques:
🐶 Medium to Large Dogs: Compress one third of the chest depth.
🐱 Small Dogs/Cats: Use your thumb and fingers for compression, or compress directly over the heart.

Stay prepared and know that you can make a difference in your pet's life! ❤️

Today marks the beginning of Vet Tech Appreciation week! Vet Techs are a vital part of the veterinary field who go through special training, education, and licensing. We don’t currently have any RVTs on staff, but we have multiple staff members currently going through vet tech school! While we will be celebrating ALL of our staff members this week because each and every individual plays an important role, we wanted to take a moment to give a special shout out to all the amazing vet techs out there!

Welcome back to both Drs. Garrett! Apparently the patients have been eagerly awaiting their return because we have already filled up with so many emergencies on top of our fully booked schedule that we are having to send some to the nearby urgent care! We will do our best to help everyone, but for those waiting to phone calls to be returned, please be patient. It may take a couple days for the doctors to catch up communications as they will be focusing on helping MANY sick and injured pets today!

Our doctors have loved spending time dedicated to continuing education to better help their patients! We can’t wait for them to be back in the clinic ready to put all this knowledge to use!

30/09/2024

As a reminder, our doctors are out of town all week and the beginning of next week for a conference out of state, expanding their knowledge and skills to better care for your pets! We will still have staff here to help with non-doctor appointments, medication pick ups, scheduling, and payments M,T, W, and F, but the office will be closed Saturday.
Remember if an emergency comes up during the week, we recommend calling Night Owls Wellness + Urgent Care

23/09/2024

Our doctors will be gone the first week of October to attend the Christian Veterinary Mission continuing education conference! We will still have staff members in the clinic during the week, so this is a perfect time to schedule non-doctor appointments such as nail trims, anal gland expression, ear cleaning, vaccine boosters, even labwork! Did you know it is recommended for all dogs and cats, especially those over 5 years old, to have annual bloodwork to screen for many problems before the symptoms start? Did you know we recommend annual fecal exams to screen for parasites in all species? Our staff can even help with short 15 minute "behavior appointments" to help desensitize your pet to things like the scale, clippers, a muzzle, etc. Call now to get scheduled for any of these appointments!

Due to a personal emergency situation, we will be very short staffed today. We already have multiple pet emergencies double booked over our regular appointments, so please bear with us and be patient if we cannot take your call right away. Join us in praying for our employees and the family facing the emergency today.

Our doctors are out of state for the weekend, and the clinic is closed for the day. If there are any small animal emergencies, we strongly advise seeking care with NIVES in Ft. Wayne or VCA in Kalamazoo as the preferred weekend emergency clinics.

It is not every day that we get a delicious edible arrangement, but yesterday we received TWO! These gifts were sent by two different clients as a thank you to the team for helping their animals. This career can be very challenging at times, and you have no idea how much these tokens of appreciation mean to us!

PSA: Our phones will be unavailable most of the day today due to extreme short staffing (illness, funerals, travel, car accidents… it’s a tough week). We want to focus our attention on the patients who are in the clinic with us this morning, so the phones will mostly be unattended. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we look forward to being available again on Monday

Woah! That storm was CRAZY! Our power is back on and we are working to call back all the missed calls from this morning. We are so proud of our team pushing through to take care of your pets under difficult circumstances, even safely finishing surgery with no power. All patients are happy and healthy!
Thank you, also, to the amazing workers from the power company who are out there braving the elements to make sure everyone gets their power back!
