When it rains, it pours… literally! Our roof has decided the melted snow and winter rain are too much, and multiple leaks opened in our lobby overnight. Please be careful in the lobby if you are coming in this morning. We are doing our best to manage until repairs can be made, and at the moment, we’ve had to turn off some breakers due to the leaks compromising outlets. Rain or shine we will do our best to still be here for your pets! Also, if you have recommendations on reputable, insured roofing companies in the area, please send us the info

Our staff are gathered around for a special training on our new, upgraded surgical laser! While the use of the CO2 laser is not new to us, we are very excited about our new, more advanced unit. The surgical laser allows us to perform surgeries with less blood loss, less inflammation, and less pain for our patients than traditional surgery!

It’s time for our start of year training meeting! A few of our employees are taking a quiz to test their knowledge, and we are spending most of the day working on training and education to continue providing better care for you and your animals! We have very limited appointments today, but we will try to keep answering phones and returning calls throughout the day!

Did you know that we have an active online pharmacy ready to provide trusted medications for your animals, shipped right to your door? While there are other online pharmacies anyone can use, this is specific to our clients! Many other online pharmacies are infiltrated with counterfeit medications, and we often hear reports of owners receiving the wrong medication or the wrong size, but when you use our Garrett Vet online pharmacy, we know that the products are coming from a trustworthy supplier so your pets and livestock can have top quality care. Check us out today! https://garrettvet.myvetstoreonline.pharmacy/shop?fbclid=IwAR2h2QJ6w_P3RUuR7b99xmdY3yCxwrhp5fOc3Ti3p26LR05WjJrvVjzT6Fg

Watch out for those naughty South Pole Elves! We have just realized that our phones were not able to receive incoming calls all morning, and it sounds like the issue was also preventing calls from being forwarded to the voicemail box! We apologize for the inconvenience. The problem has been resolved!

November is Senior Pet Health Month! Did you know routine lab work can be instrumental in catching many diseases BEFORE your pet is showing symptoms? So this month, we are running a special for all senior pets! $25 off the senior wellness bundle for lab work if you mention this deal! As an additional incentive, we will also be giving away a free joint supplement with purchase of the labwork while supplies last! Someone told us we almost missed National Cat Day! Of course we had to take the opportunity to share our handsome clinic cat who came to us after an injury nearly cost him his eye. Our doctors and staff managed to save his eye, and now he thinks he runs the clinic. We love you O’Malley!

Today is , a reminder that knowing how to save a life—especially our furry friends—can make all the difference. While having to administer CPR to your pet can be terrifying, being prepared can help you act calmly and confidently in an emergency.

Stay Calm:
1️⃣ Breathe: Take a few deep breaths to steady yourself. Focus on the feeling of the air filling your lungs.
2️⃣ Delegate: If there are bystanders, assign them tasks like finding the nearest emergency vet.
3️⃣ Focus: Keep your mind clear. Concentrate on the steps ahead and stay in the moment.

When to Start CPR:
🐾 Your pet isn’t responding
🐾 Your pet isn’t breathing
🐾 You can’t feel a heartbeat or pulse

How to Perform CPR:
Compressions:
❤️ Position your pet on their side.
❤️ Deliver 120 compressions per minute (2 per second).
❤️ For every 30 compressions, give 2 breaths.

Breaths:
❤️ Close your pet’s mouth and seal it with your fingers.
❤️ Cover their nose with your mouth and give 2 breaths—enough to make their chest rise.
❤️ Check for a heartbeat after 2 minutes. If there’s no pulse, continue.

When to Stop CPR:
🐾 Your pet starts breathing and responding
🐾 You reach the vet clinic and they take over
🐾 You can’t continue physically
🐾 Your pet starts breathing but is still unconscious

Recovery Position:
Place your pet’s head to the side, slightly tilting down (unless there’s head trauma).

Compression Techniques:
🐶 Medium to Large Dogs: Compress one third of the chest depth.
🐱 Small Dogs/Cats: Use your thumb and fingers for compression, or compress directly over the heart.

Stay prepared and know that you can make a difference in your pet's life! ❤️

Today marks the beginning of Vet Tech Appreciation week! Vet Techs are a vital part of the veterinary field who go through special training, education, and licensing. We don’t currently have any RVTs on staff, but we have multiple staff members currently going through vet tech school! While we will be celebrating ALL of our staff members this week because each and every individual plays an important role, we wanted to take a moment to give a special shout out to all the amazing vet techs out there!

Welcome back to both Drs. Garrett! Apparently the patients have been eagerly awaiting their return because we have already filled up with so many emergencies on top of our fully booked schedule that we are having to send some to the nearby urgent care! We will do our best to help everyone, but for those waiting to phone calls to be returned, please be patient. It may take a couple days for the doctors to catch up communications as they will be focusing on helping MANY sick and injured pets today!
