I am 20 years old and currently on my third of four years with Hartpury University, studying BSc Hons Equine Performance and Rehabilitation. I have previously worked with ex racehorses, hunters, showjumpers, riding school horses, with an Olympic-level eventer, and more, with an age range of 2 years old to 28 years old.

🌟 Client Success Story 🌟

Nearly 5 months ago, I met Samson. Samson is a happy boy with a slight aversion to work, which had unfortunately knocked his mum’s confidence.

We spent over two months working purely in hand. Walking around the arena, pole work, short walks around the yard which built up to 20-30 minute walks down nearby tracks and around fields, all with the aim of Samson building his self-confidence (and Debbie regaining some of hers but seeing he’s not all bad!). There was a few hiccups along the way- a strong dislike of long reining and lunging (on Samson’s end), which resulted in stepping back and looking at the bigger picture. Debbie’s aim for them both is to be able to hack confidently and occasionally pop in the school; if Samson was so unhappy lunging and long reining, we would work on hacking. And so hacking we have done!

Thanks to Samson’s large cob frame, he struggles with shoulder restriction under a saddle, and so Debbie bought a Total Contact Saddle- game changer. He is happier hacking not only due to the time we spent building his confidence but also as his movement isn’t restricted. And Debbie finds it equally comfortable!

I am beyond thrilled to be able to say Debbie has recently been back in the saddle for the first time in over a year! And for a second time today! With every step her confidence in Samson grew, they’re now partaking in their Top Barn challenges (even considering the ridden challenges!), and I have no doubt that they’ll be back to riding through open fields come summer.

Hello all! Outside of this business, I am actually a final year undergraduate student at Hartpury University! I’m currently completing research for my degree in BSc Equine Performance and Rehabilitation, in which I am looking at hock pain as a potential performance-limiting factor in showjumping horses.

Have you owned or ridden a showjumping horse with hock pain within the last 10 years? Have you got 5 minutes to complete a tick-box questionnaire? I want to hear your experience!

Not often you pull a field full of ragwort taller than yourself (although many would say it’s not difficult to be taller than me!), but this one is definitely… outstanding in it’s field… 🤣🤣 Contact RCD Equine Services for all your field maintenance needs, and be quick to catch the summer deal (if we can even call it summer still 🌦️) for poopicking and ragworting!

I know I don’t stop talking about this little grey pony, but every time I work with him I am genuinely shocked by how much he has improved from even the day before! 🤯 Every ride he settles more than he did the ride before, is still happy to go out in front or behind all on his own, and never spooks- even when the other horses we’re out do! Seeing progress like this really makes everything we do worth it 😊 And working in places as beautiful as this is definitely a lovely bonus 😍
