My name is Brigid, and I am the founder and owner of Obi's Trainer, LLC. Having grown up in a dog-filled household, I always knew that my dream job would involve canines. Then in college, I became interested in applied animal behavior, so I minored in Psychology to explore the processes behind learning and how learning impacts behavior. I pursued dog training certification through Animal Behavior
College; I am an APDT (Association of Professional Dog Trainers) member as well. In the world of dog training, my style falls under positive reinforcement training— a reward-based approach that uses treats, toys and natural reinforcers to encourage good behavior from dogs, rather than simply punishing bad behavior. Although it often requires more time and dedication than punishment-based methods, positive reinforcement teaches a dog the appropriate way to respond to situations and fosters their voluntary cooperation. Good behavior should be more rewarding than bad behavior! I also follow the Humane Hierarchy and the Least Intrusive/Minimally Aversive (“LIMA”) guidelines when solving problem behaviors. In addition, many of my techniques have been evaluated by my business partner/student/rambunctious hound Obi, so you can be sure that I’ll treat your dog as my own! In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family, volunteering at church, and exploring new trails (and fabulous new smells!) with Obi.

My buddy Ace showing off his chew stick-- he even carried it outside! Does your dog chew your belongings? Make sure to provide them with plenty of appropriate alternatives!
How are we spending this windy Sunday? Playing tug indoors, of course! 😂🥶 Comment below-- what's your favorite indoor game to play with your pet?
Did you know? Many behaviors we would consider "problematic" arise from a dog's unmet needs (lack of attention, exercise or mental stimulation, etc.). The first step to addressing "bad" behavior is understanding its root cause-- a good trainer can help with this!
It's a new year! Did you know that humane training can help strengthen the human-dog relationship? How does it work? Not sure where to start? Email me at [email protected] and I'd be happy to tell you more!
Happy New Year from Obi and Obi's Trainer!! 🐶
Obi here to remind everyone: Know your dog's weaknesses! I know it's tough with the holiday bustle, but be sure to DOG-PROOF your home, and make arrangements if certain areas (i.e. the kitchen) are going to tempt your dog to misbehave. Crating with a fun toy or food puzzle can keep things disaster- and stress-free for everyone!
A good reminder year-round, but especially during the holidays-- stop and check before feeding your dog those table scraps!
I've dropped the ball on posting lately, but hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving, four-legged friends included! 🐶🐾🦃
Does your dog get bored with toys quickly? Find yourself constantly buying new toys to keep them occupied? Try this!
Foster homes are SO crucial! Even shelters have limits. At the same time, know your limits too-- know the emotional and time investments that come with fostering. Please share, especially if you know anyone who is a foster (or interested in becoming one)!
We are in desperate need folks! Our core team is overloaded and we cannot continue to pull these dogs in without our local community stepping up!!! For more information on fostering please visit our website www.lhar.dog or contact us at [email protected]
Better late than never-- hope everyone had a happy Labor Day!
Did you know that training doesn't have to be time-consuming? Capitalize on your dog's attention span by keeping them short and sweet! 😊🐶🐾
Like calm behavior? REWARD IT!!! Try giving your dog a small treat, gentle petting/attention when you see this kind of behavior, and it just might happen more often...
If you're looking to make an extra-special homemade treat, try this gourmet Kong recipe! 😆🤤🐶

Never underestimate the importance of training! As pet parents, we owe it to vet staff, groomers, pretty much any pet care workers...and house guests, family members and friends. And (if for no other reason) train to enrich YOUR relationship with your dog! Have questions where to begin? Message Obi's Trainer, or e-mail me at [email protected]. 😉🐶🐾

Vinny celebrating Friday🍷🍾 while his brother Dale does all the hard training work! 😂 Hopefully we kept things fun for Dale, too-- keep building that Recall, buddy!
Found this lovely shoe donation box at Hairs2You Salon in Eldersburg! Proceeds from the donations go toward Saving Grace Animal Rescue Shelter of MD, and even better, the shoe donations themselves go to those in need! Pass the word along!
"Fun visits" are meant to be a treat-filled, procedure-free vet visit so your dog can meet the staff and get familiar with the exam room. Great intro to the vet for puppies (or a refresher course for vet-shy dogs)!
Can't wait to check this place out!
Happy National Puppy Day from Obi's Trainer! 😊 Reply below with your puppy pics! And remember: A well-behaved dog starts in puppyhood!
