After being groomed we went for a mini hike! These boys are just so willing!
This little gal with fancy feet is considering looking for a new home! She's too young to be retired and would love a child or petite woman to go on trail rides!
Yarrow agrees that trail riding is the best foundation for him. With just a few mini rides on him, this was a nice step into being an independent riding partner.
Quietly quietly quietly 🤫
Whisper's most "wild" moment under the bareback pad
An exposure walk. Encountering different stimulus while on a natural walk we can teach not just desensitization to specific items, but we teach how to encounter them, view them, and continue living. For me, it's not about standing in an arena with a plastic bag today and tomorrow it will be empty water bottles, it's about teaching them how to move through being when coming upon interesting things. The result is a horse that can walk through the unknown, and trust that there is another side to it, and the easiest way to find it is through calmly walking.
When her lesson includes brushing and show sheen, it makes sense she ends her day like this 🙄
When you enjoy working with horses as much as I do, you get horses for Christmas! Thank you Nichole Jolly! Welcome Moonshine!
Whisper day 4, she is so willing and doesn't want her lessons to end. Day 4 was a carry over from day 3, working on head drops, backing and disengaging the hindquarters at liberty. Also desensitization to the rope all over her body and picking up feet. She is very relaxed here and not worried about her sessions. She's super quiet and I think has a lot of mental stamina and enjoys thinking. She's not at all an over thinker though, which makes her really fun to play with.
Day 2 with Whisper, she if feeling good! We also worked on backing up and disengaging the hind end at liberty. She did great!
