So, what is your favorite dinosaur?
Jackson’s chameleons (Trioceros jacksonii) are native to East Africa. The males have three horns on their faces that readily remind many of us of a Triceratops. Sadly, that does not make it a dinosaur. For one subspecies, Trioceros jacksonii xantholophus, the females lack horns, while females of other subspecies may have one to three small horns.
Unlike most chameleon species (which usually lay eggs), the Jackson’s chameleon gives birth to live offspring in a membrane sac reminiscent of an egg that never developed a shell. These fascinating chameleons have been successfully bred and maintained under human care for several decades.
