Threshold Manners!

Maize will not just bust out of any door. She knows to wait until I say break.

This is so important!

Engagement Games pt. 2! In my neighborhood I let maize freely walk off leash with me, so I can see what choices she makes. When she was sniffing at a spot for awhile I wanted to make sure she was still engaged with me.

Socializing your puppy is so important!

Remember Bailey? This isn’t her first time meeting her cousin Maize, but it is her first time being confident enough to play with her. Maize is the best dog to play with ANY other dog. She’s so gentle, sweet, and patient.

You can see Bailey pins Maize and Maize whines(I think she bit her ear with those sharp puppy teeth.) Bailey then goes to lick Maize in the face(saying sorry and that she isn’t a threat) and grabs a toy. Bailey is learning quickly about proper pup etiquette! It’s so exciting to see!

Meet Guapo🤎

He’s such a sweet and handsome boy!

He was my first training client! He just had some issues with going potty in the house. He stopped doing that and is just living his best life!

E-Collars are so controversial in the dog training industry. I’m here to help educate and show you how I use them with Maize. She’s excited when I get her collar out! She knows it means we’re going to go do something fun and be off leash!

Engagement Games!

When Maize and I are practicing off leash sometimes we practice engagement/checking in with games.

1, 2, 3, and throw the treat. I throw it behind, in front, and off to the side. It helps her to focus in on me and the treats are her reward. I did this way more in the beginning of our off leash excursions, but still come back to it once and awhile.

Hi friends! I’m Cristina and that sweet pup in the picture is my dog Maize. I’ve grown up with animals and loved them. Obviously that statement doesn’t make me qualified for dog training, but I digress. I used to ride horses when I was little. I had to learn how to care for them and how to be able to handle them. I wanted to be a veterinarian and my first job was at a veterinary clinic. I administered medicine, dealt with cage aggressive dogs, walked, and took care of them. In July I started volunteering at the Humane Society. I walk dogs there and after so long I can enter their dog pack program. That means a lot of hands on training with dogs with behavioral issues! I chose a different path for awhile, but ever since last November when I got Maize I realized that my true passion is animals. My main goal for this business is to become one of the best behavioral rehabilitation dog trainers, so I can help all dogs especially rescues get a second chance to find/keep forever homes.

Maize is my first rescue dog/first dog with behavioral issues. Maize’s behavioral issues were resource guarding with food, fear based reactivity, harness/collar aggression, and was terrible on the leash. She would lunge at people, bikes, and other animals on walks. When she was tired or sleeping on the bed and you tried to move her she’d snap.

I had no idea what to do with her or how to even begin to help her. To be honest I was nervous around her because I wasn’t sure if she’d actually bite me. I had made so many mistakes by just trying a little bit of everything… I just didn’t know what to start with. I finally started researching, reading books, and watching webinars on dog psychology to help me help her. It has been the most rewarding process to see her change over the past 10 months into a more balanced and confident pup.
