Animal deaths in California, Washington State, Oregon, and Colorado have been linked to eating contaminated raw food. These deaths include housecats, captive wild cats in sanctuaries, and at least one captive fox at a sanctuary.

It is unclear if there are multiple brands and/or meat sources involved, as Northwest Naturals has only been definitively linked to a pet cat death in Oregon, and Monarch has only been linked to cases in California.

This news comes just as the current administration FREEZES all public health updates and communication from the National Institute of Health, the Centers for Disease Control, and the Food and Drug Administration - three absolutely key organizations for keeping us updated on the status of H5N1 & potential recalls.

In addition, vital research from the NIH for H5N1 has also been stopped by the current administration, with all grant reviews for NIH being CANCELLED.

We are entering a potential information blackout and a concerning halt of progress as far as the continuing spread of H5N1.

The FDA recently implemented new requirements for raw food manufacturers, but it may take at least some time for the new requirements to go from conception to store shelves, and with communication from the FDA currently frozen, we may not receive updates on progress of the new regulations.

I am placing screenshots of an LA Times article in the comments for our Canadian friends who cannot click the link. This article includes statements from Dr. Henry Niman, a molecular biologist. Dr. Niman is one of the experts I have been closely following for daily updates in the genetic sequencing of the virus.

Do you guys remember Kylo? Who was adopted earlier this month? Well somehow the little stinker got outside! His momma was distraught! I was distraught. We weren’t sure if he was still in the house (they free roam) or if he for sure was outside. It was Thursday morning when mom realized he was gone. Days of looking with no sign of him. Mom wisely kept the garage door cracked and left food and water out for him in hopes he’d find his way back. Sunday evening, Debbie of Kindness Matters Ferret Rescue, Acworth GA starts texting me to follow up on Kylo asking if I had gone over to look for him myself. I hadn’t and wanted to but didn’t want to impose. Debbie went ahead and called kylo’s mom to insist I should come over. Well I don’t turn down special requests and when I got that text from mom, we were on our way! As we are driving down the street she lives on, I suddenly see two deer on the right and slow down. I am a firm believer that wild animals are placed in my path as an omen of Good and Light. As I’m reflecting on these thoughts and we continue our drive lo and behold! There was Kylo walking right towards us in the middle of the street! The following video is the dash cam footage (I apologize for the beeping at the end I freaked out and didn’t shut the door) what a happy ending !!!!

I’m a little behind on making this post but shout out to Steve Goins who sent us a donation and came by to donate his dear Jezzebell’s leftover supplies after her passing. Congratulations to Kylo Ren who was adopted over the weekend!! This was an unexpected surprise. Kylo was spending the week with his buddy Zombie and they were having such a good time that Zombie’s mom asked to keep Kylo!! 🥳 Kylo first met his new mom in 2022 when they posed together for our first charity calendar!

So very happy for this happy boy! Enjoy your new digs, Ky, you will be very missed ! Photos are in his new home
