If you are teaching your dog what it means to be in a crate, start by opening and closing the door and expecting the same behavior. Then increase the distance by moving out of the way and still asking them to stay calm in the crate. Eventually leave the room and wait a few minutes before you come back. Practice having them in the crate and relaxed while you are in the house. That will help for when you eventually leave. ✨🐕 Distance, duration, distraction are the variables to work with when teaching dogs. Teach them that when a door opens it doesn’t automatically means they are coming out.
