Colic
What is Colic?
Generic term for abdominal pain in horses. It can be caused by a number of things, including: upset gut from feed or weather change, GI infection, impaction, entrolith, parasite impaction, serious gut trauma causing dead bowel, lipoma that stragulate the GI tract or other GI complications.
Signs of colic include:
Looking at their side or belly
Pawing at the ground
Rolling on the ground
Kicking or biting their belly or flank
Decreased appetite
Changes in manure
Sweating
Increased heart rate
Colic can range from mild to severe based on what is causing the Colic symptoms. Always take a re**al temperature before administering medications such as Banamine and always consult with your Veterinarian before treating an animal.
*Friendly reminder that Banamine is given in the vein or an oral version. NEVER in the muscle.*
