Dolly duck has the right idea of how to stay cool during this unbearable heat 🥵 We are in for another 5 days over 41 degrees. Safe to say this summer has been relentless!
Moving day for the 11 week old Chinese goslings today 🎉 They've finally graduated to the big pen with the rest of the geese. Looking forward to watching these guys mature over the next few months 🤞🏻
Our last group of Appleyard ducklings for 2023 are growing out well! Unfortunately our duck to drake ratio is a bit slim pickings this season, but hopefully there's a few nice drakes to retain from this year. We'll have some drakes available at the end of January 😏
This group of ducklings are the offspring of the beautiful drake we purchased from Clearview Poultry: and our #1🌟 duck Dolly.
That's a wrap on the 2023 breeding season for us 👏🏼 Everyone is back in with their friends and super happy about it! Our incubator is still running with a few more Appleyards on the way over the next few weeks. Fingers crossed for some more 'Dollys' 🤞🏻
The first of our Appleyard ducklings graduated to the big kid pen this weekend, under the watchful eye of some of our pet ducks 🥰
Starting them off young with the afternoon chores 🙊 We've both been getting a bit restless being inside so much over the last 3 weeks!
Safe to say, everyone's happy ❤ Huge thankyou to Andrew Brown from Clearview Poultry: Welsummers, Anconas and Silver Appleyard Ducks for allowing us to add a new pair of Appleyards to our breeding program! Excited to see what they produce crossed over our birds from Travis Boehms lines 🥰 Great to have some fresh Silver Appleyard bloodlines in WA!
Mr Swag supervising the duck wash station ahead of tomorrows show 😂🛁
Dolly's got a lot to say about her win today 🥰 Such a beautiful nature on this duck, super excited to see what she produces this season!
If only everyone was this easy to wash for a show! Time to put the butt down and feet up for a bit before a very early morning tomorrow 😴
The ganders enjoying a fresh drink in the pool this morning 🥰 It's been nice to see the bachelors getting along well since they've been seperated from their girls! Only a couple of these boys will get a chance to father some offspring this season as we take a break from breeding 😴
Our pairs of geese at the WA State Poultry Show, taking out Champion Goose Pair 😁
We entered a Young Pair of Pomeranians, Young Pair of Australian Settlers, Adult Pair of Brown and White Chinese. Huge thankyou to WAPA for being so accommodating, the pairs loved their little set up and we're super relaxed!
17 of our geese ventured out to the Bullsbrook Young Bird Show this morning, and what an effort it was! We were the only exhibitor but was super pleased to support the show and present a few different breeds. We took along Australian Settlers, Pomeranians, Brown and White Chinese and a Tufted Roman 😁 Our Pomeranian Goose Panda was awarded Best Goose ❤
Super please with 2 of our young Silver Appleyards, they are shaping up very nicely! These two were bred from birds gifted by Travis Boehm and it's another one of his breeds I'm proud to be continuing ❤
Looking like a feather apocalypse around the farm at the moment! Moulting season is almost at an end thankfully; hopefully the doona crime scene looking goose paddocks clear up of stray feathers soon 🤞🏻
Some of Sundance Stud's Chinese geese gearing up for a busy year of shows 😍 Half a dozen of the 2022 youngsters are missing from the video, but 7 of the adults were kindly given to me by Travis Boehm before he passed. It's been a privilege to keep his hard work going, and exciting to see some of his progeny surpassing their parents in quality ❤
The sight and sound of 60 VERY happy geese! First time herding them across the property to the dam and it went a lot smoother than I expected 😂
The dam looks so much bigger with something on it!
The 2023 flock ready for bed last night 😁 Starting to gear up for separating the ladies and gents as the Chinese get ready to start laying. We've been fortunate with our dry hot summer that it's pushed our season back. There are plenty of friends and 2022 goslings already laying at their homes in Perth 😱
2 of my personal favourites from our 2022 goslings are these strapping young fellas 😍 Both bred from adults we were lucky to have purchased from Travis Boehm, and I like to hope he's as proud of them as I am! Chinese are a very hard breed to get proportionally correct (good height, refined Swan neck and head features, and an elegant upright compact body), but I feel as though we are on the right track with these boys in the future!
So exciting seeing so much potential in this seasons show flock! We bred some wicked youngstock in 2022 that I believe surpasses their parents quality 👌🏼 Always striving to improve what we have!
We'll be out in force this 2023 showing season showcasing our passion for geese with this group, and I can't wait!
