Summer Santa photos have ended. We had a fun weekend meeting old and new friends who came out to support the dogs of Rainbow. Many thanks to Care A Lot Diamond Springs for hosting our photos-they are the BEST. As always a big thank you to all the 2 and 4-legged friends who had their picture taken with Santa in support of our dogs. We couldn't have done this without the help of our very special volunteers: Santa (Rob who is always there😍). Lily our awesome, talented photography, set designer, and many other jobs), Howard (printer operator), claudette (who has been a lifesaver for me), Dallas, and last but not least Angel who I can always count on and she is great at sales😍

"I adopted your dog today.
The one you left in the shelter.
The one you had for 10 years. That you don't want to keep him anymore.
I adopted your dog today.
Did you know he lost weight?
Did
you know he is terrorized and depressed?
And it seems he has lost all trust?
I adopted your dog today.
He had fleas and suffered from winter.
I guess you don't care what state he is in?
They told me you left him.
I adopted your dog today.
Did you have a baby or did you move? You have at once
a developed allergy? Or there was no reason,
why couldn't he stay with you?
I adopted your dog today.
She’s not playing and barely eating.
I think she is very sad and will take time,
before she gets her trust again.
I adopted your dog today.
And here we will love him.
He found his forever family.
And a warm place to relax.
I adopted your dog today.
And I will give him everything: patience, love, and safety.
So he can forget your cowardice. "
Peace Ever.

AWESOME RAFFLE!
A beautiful brand new suitcase was donated to Rainbow to raffle to help our dogs. It was donated by Devin in memory of his heart dog, Fitz. Fitz was a one of a kind sweet pitta who was the most spoiled canine I have ever met and he deserved every year. Many thanks to Devin for your caring heart and we are terribly sorry for your loss🥲
The suitcase with a canine theme is valued at $200.

Tickets are $5ea or 4 for $15. Contact me if you are interested in purchasing any. We will be selling them at our events or you can contact me and we will make arrangements.

Thanks
Esther

If you would like to buy tickets on line- you can go to our website: www.rainbowanimalrescue.net, scroll to bottom of Home page and hit donate button. There you can use PayPal or a credit card and you can add a note indicating that the money is for raffle tickets for the suitcase

Please do not hurt me or my mom. ♥️🦊♥️
We just temporarily moved to the neighborhood so we could be “safe.”
If you have suddenly seen a fox in the yard near your home, there is a good reason for this.
It is denning season. Between the end of March and early April, a mother fox will give birth to between 4 and 5 kits (a baby fox is called a kit).
A coyote will often find a fox den, dig out the babies, and kill them.
A mother fox knows this and will frequently choose a den site close to people, away from where coyotes generally go.
A fox will often den under a porch, shed, garage, barn, or side of a hill, trying to keep her little family safe.
Please offer them a short-term rental because this is not a permanent situation.
If you are lucky enough to see how beautiful an adult fox is, or witness the kits playing (at a distance of course), you will be glad you did!
It is not uncommon for Red Foxes to change dens several times during the season, so you may not see them for long.
Kits are slow to develop and will not leave the den until they are about a month old. Foxes do not live in a den year-round, only when a mother has babies.
During the summer as the kits grow older, you will see less and less of them, and by September everyone will have packed up and moved on. Please do not call a service to “relocate them”, they will often be killed.
If you see a fox during the day, it does not mean she is rabid. A mother fox works tirelessly to feed her kits and will often be out during daylight hours foraging for food.
Foxes are omnivores, generally feeding on berries, grasses, and small rodents. They are solitary and prefer to be left alone.
They do not want to hunt and eat your children, mate with your dog, or kill your cat.
A fox just wants a place to raise her family safely, please allow her to do that.

Friends.. This information is very important to know.!!! When you see a dirty cat.. This is important information to know, why cats look dirty.

🔺 Cats can resist hunger for up to a week on average, but no more than 2-3 days in case of thirst.

🔺 Cats are usually very clean, they are groomed several times a day, if you see a cat that is not clean, it is DEHYDRATED and has been so for many days.

Their saliva glands are not functioning properly, because they require moisture.!!!.

🔺 Please, if you see a stray kitten, apparently dirty, do not run, or look at it with disgust, it has already had difficult days.. In which I probably haven't eaten or drank any water for a long time!!!. If you don't like cats, express kindness out of compassion.!!

🔺 For humanity, empathy, and love for your neighbor, bring food and above all a container with WATER. It's not easy being thirsty and hungry and not being able to say a word! 💔🥺

June 22- still nobody has stepped up to foster Gator so he can have his eye surgery. Please consider helping this sweet boy!

UPDATE: Gator went to Dr Leber, Ophthalmologist, who diagnosed his eye as cherry eye. She also aged him at 2-3 years old instead of the 10 yrs old as reported by IOW. She would like him to gain approx 30 lbs before surgery as his ideal could change the other issues she noticed with the exam. Before he can have surgery, he MUST have a foster as he will need drops throughout the day and that is not possible in an animal control. If anyone can foster this sweet boy, please contact Amber, ACO, at Isle of Wight Animal Control. 757-365-6318 or if you can't reach her, you can contact me at 757-472-1583. He is a very sweet boy who doesn't have any training other than a "sit". His hunger keeps him from concentrating. During the entire exam he was trying to get to the cookies that I brought. He will make a wonderful family pet if someone will give him a chance.
PLEASE CONSIDER FOSTERING HIM so he can have his surgery.
Thanks and PLEASE share🥰

Update: No rescue has stepped up to help this sweet boy😣. He needs a foster to have the eye surgery since he will need eyedrops on a scheduled basis and that is no possible in any animal control. If snyone can foster, please let Isle of Wight Animal Control know ASAP!

IMMEDICATE HELP NEEDED FOR GATOR!

This beautiful Mastiff boy is Gator. He is located at the Isle of Wight, VA. Animal shelter (757-365-6318)and needs rescue or adoption to get much needed medical care. He is 8-10 years old, 96 lbs., not neutered, up to date on vaccines, and tested Heartworm negative. He will need Entropion surgery on his right eye and a dental because although he is missing many teeth he has dental issues due to the ones broken off at or below the gums. He loves to play with toys and does not mind getting a bath! He shows interest in playing with other dogs but would need to do a meet and greet if you have another dog. Gator is a sweet boy needing a home for his golden years. He should not be sitting in a shelter at his age but as with most of the dogs in shelters, no one comes to claim them. Someone must have cared for him at some point. Please consider Gator if you have a large, dog shaped hole in your life - he will love you for it!

As a rehabber, I deal with animals passing away a lot. I’m usually pretty tough about it, I know it’s part of the job and some are just too far gone to save. I somehow keep working through it, still trying my best for the other animals in my care, but today broke me.

Two babies came in today that have been without their mother between 8 and 10 days. They were cold, dehydrated, rail thin, covered in fleas and ticks, and were so so pale and weak.

I started emergency treatment right away and one died in my arms while his brother frantically screamed and cried for him.

As I walked away with his siblings body to bury him, all I can hear are his devasted screams. I broke down. I can’t stop crying.

The cry from this little one has so much pain, loss, and anger in it… how anyone can think animals can’t feel emotions is beyond my comprehension. He’s still crying out now as I type this. I’m going to do everything I can for this baby. The world was beyond cruel to this poor creature. In his 5 weeks of life his mother and then his only friend were taken from him.

I’m writing this post just to say…. Please be kind to wildlife. 💔 Life for them is already so difficult, and often times humans just make it worse. Be kind to them.

URGENT: Grizzly 💔

Please, share!

Grizzly is back at the shelter, through no fault of his own. Shelter life for Grizzly is stressful for this old guy. This guy needs a hero - adopter or foster, the shelter is no place for any animal, let alone a senior but Grizzly is one that needs to get out ASAP.
