That's a wrap on our first farm camp! Such a fantastic group of kids. 🌿🐞🐴🌻 We did our barn chores, finished up our artwork, painted the horses, learned parts of the horse, enjoyed cold popsicles, and finished with a parent show and tell!

Another great day at farm camp! 🚜 The kids brought the horses in, fed them, groomed, watched a lunging demonstration, went on a scavenger hunt, pet the baby chicks, designed their perfect horse, played water games, and more!

☀️ Lessons WILL continue as scheduled today (Tuesday). The estimated heat index is 137 (humidity + heat). We'll be utilizing our shady trails and learning about how to properly care for a horse after a hot weather ride, including hand walking, bathing, and adding electrolytes to their water!

June Farm Camp Day 1! 🌻
We met all the farm animals, groomed the horses, learned horse colors, did barn chores, went on a nature walk, arts & crafts, read a book, and played games.

No lessons today -- today, we celebrate this guy! Craig may not get on the back of a horse very often (but has perfect form when he does), yet without him, there would be no Fennel Farm.
In addition to raising our 3 boys and a demanding full-time job, Craig tirelessly mows the farm, weedwacks fencelines, clears the trails, unloads hay, unloads shavings, fixes broken fences, cements in new posts, plows the driveway, takes out the barn trash, drags the ring, and much, much more.
On this day we give a special shoutout to all dads, but THIS ONE in particular! ❤️

🧸 Teddy!
One of our more advanced lesson horses, Teddy isn't for everyone...and that's okay! After 20 years of abuse, his quirks are understandable. But for those riders that do appreciate a gruffer, more sensitive horse, Teddy is a (grumpy) little sport pony in a shiny chestnut package.
In another life, he would have been the BEST Pony Club mount! In this life, after pulling carriages and being hit and having his injured legs pinfired repeatedly, he just gets to hang out, be Star's best friend, stare suspiciously at new people from afar, and trot around the ring 3x a week.
We love you, Teddy! ❤️
Fun Fact: When Teddy 1st arrived in October 2022, his diet consisted of 24/7 hay and 3lbs of soaked senior 3x a day + alfalfa pellets to get his weight up. He's now one of our EASIEST keepers, spends his nights on a dry lot to avoid getting too chubby (sorry Teddy) and gets a handful of balancer 1x a day for vitamins & minerals!

🔥 Please Note: When the the heat index is above 150, riding lessons WILL NOT BE HELD. Even gentle work at the walk can cause horses to overheat, especially seniors. When the heat index is between 135-150, lessons will be held/rescheduled at the instructor's discretion.
We will reach out to students individually if/when lessons need to be canceled or rescheduled and will also post here on Facebook.

Work to Ride! 🐴
We are looking for some help with AM & PM shifts over the summer in exchange for lease rides. 1 shift = 1 lease ride. Shifts consist of feeding, turn in/turn out, dumping/filling water buckets, and light stall mucking. Our 10 horses are quiet, well-behaved, and easy to handle. 4 are on field board.
Ideal candidate has horse experience (must be able to tack up & ride independently), a positive attitude, attention to detail, and is reliable.
Specifically looking for Monday AM, Tuesday AM, Friday PM, Saturday PM, and Sunday PM.
AM Shift - 7:00AM to 8:00AM
PM Shift - 5:30PM to 6:30PM
Ride after! Several horses to choose from.... beginner level to intermediate. Outdoor ring and trails. Great way to get in some ride time for someone on a budget!
