💛💛 Welcome Ida 💛💛 Ida arrived yesterday afternoon via Doxie Taxi Transport and was not loving life. Not sure if It was the meds or the gigantic incision on her tummy, being spayed, and having mammary masses and a mass on her v***a removed.

She did not move from her bed all night but is doing a little better today ☀️Gonna let her chill and get settled in and then will see what we have!

🌴🌴💙💙 Slinky’s Happily Ever After 💙💙🌴🌴 Just short weeks after coming to Slinky found his Forever Mom who flew all the way from California to Ft. Lauderdale to adopt him!!

Within minutes of meeting his Mom he was snuggled in her arms and word on the street is that he was the perfect gentleman on the long trip back to San Diego.

Leas than 48 hours in his new home he was eating home made chicken and carrots, had fully explored his new home, and hit it off with his new sister.

Slinky’s happily ever after would not have been possible without who happily diagnosed “nothing wrong with him” after an MRI and spinal tap came back clean and confined that Slinky’s crooked head was just a crooked head which was the happiest thing we could have imagined 💙

This leaves a spot open here and we have our next guest lined up who will be here on Friday. She is super tiny, frosty faced, right up my alley and I can’t wait to meet her!!

Sunday Vet Visit! On our way to Pet Medical Center Boca to get Leah measured for some and a checkup for Lionel 💙💛 We had tried another set of wheels for Leah and she was not a fan so we are going back to our “little black dress” Eddie’s Wheels which are always perfect!

💙 Welcome Slinky 💙 This sweet boy has had a whirlwind last few days having undergone an MRI and spinal tap at and once he was clear of anything more nefarious he had a big ole dental at Pet Medical Center Boca and lost a LOT of teeth.

True to Doxie form, none of it seems to have phased him in the slightest, he ate his dinner like a champ, and promptly passed out on the couch after digging around in the blankets to get them just right 💙

Thanks to everyone for following his journey and please feel free to share his story as we know his perfect family is out there (but he is safe with us for as long as he needs 💙)

I am not sure if this is stink eye or sleepy eye 🇵🇷 Meet Alala 🇵🇷 We had a spot open after Tink crossed the bridge which allowed us to welcome this little peanut, all of 5 pounds, who came with the last round of 14 dogs rescued from Puerto Rico.

The first two days she was terrified and wouldn’t let me touch her and now is getting her post breakfast nap on in my bed. Not too bad for. 48 hour turnaround and further proves dogs are SO much more resilient than we are!!!

🇨🇳💛 For over 4 hours a group of rescuers and families waited patiently for the wheels of customs to slowly turn in the middle of the night to release two palates of barking Doxies and Goldens who were waiting to start their new lives in South Florida after being rescued from the dog meat trade in China by by invitation from Golden Rescue South Florida.

Their arrival was the columniation of an international effort between rescuers in Beijing, rescuers in South Florida and all fueled by over $10,000 of donations from DRSF’s community from across the country and around the world to get the Doxies here and tens of thousands of dollars for the 27 goldens who were also rescued.

This effort united people of different languages, different cultures, and even two rescues who operated differently to raise the funds necessary to pull this off and place the dogs that were saved.

As we waited, we kept each other company. Nobody fussed about politics. Nobody fussed about masks. Nobody fussed about waiting. People took turns peeking in the open slot of the bay door that provided a visual to the dogs that were SO CLOSE to the end of their journey.

Stories were shared, information was shared and even towels were shared for warmth as we waited as I am the only person in the world who can be freezing in a parking lot in Miami 😂

In the end, culture, language, nationality or even breed choice didn’t matter as people on opposite ends of the globe came together, to make something good happen.

On one hand it was a bunch of people in a parking lot, but on the other hand it was a shining example of what can be done when we work work together.

It was a long, long night but aside from the jubilation of how many dogs were saved, it was salve for my heart that there is still more good out there than anyone could ever believe and a reminder for me that we are all more alike than we could ever believe 💛

🌈Tahiti Has Earned Her Wings🌈

Friday, with the help of Dr. Sy from Lap
Of Love I said “ I will see you again’ to my little Tahiti. She hadn’t been with me for even two months, but her sweet soul left an indelible mark on us all.

She was left at MDAS by her family at 15 year old and rescued by Dachshund Rescue South Florida in October of 2020. She was tiny little girl, and was skinny and shy. She stayed with President Pam for a while before coming to our house, where she quickly claimed her spot in a bed in my room.

She couldn’t see very well and couldn’t hear very well and was a little off cognitively, but she loved to eat and was always first in line for dinner and would often eat her and Lionel’s dinner if he didn’t eat fast enough.

Tahiti had her first seizure Tuesday night and spent the rest of the night at LeadER Animal Specialty Hospital under observation and getting some anti seizure meds into her system. She had another seizure Wednesday afternoon and cognitively we didn’t think she would come back. She stabilized a bit, she stayed one more night at LeadER and I was able to bring her home Thursday night.

We knew we didn’t have a lot of time but were going to make the best of what we had and so Thursday night dinner had some chicken and beef added to it (thank you leftover Moe’s!) and then not even a full day after getting home, the jingle bells around her neck work me up before 7 to let me know Tahiti was having another seizure, even on a pretty hefty dose of meds. She came out of it and ate her breakfast like a champ, but it was written in the stars, we had to let her go.

Dr. Sy arrived and was so very kind. She came armed with treats for everyone with an extra special one, a syringe of Nutella for Tahiti, to distract her while the first injection was administered. Tahiti was able to enjoy the entire syringe of Nutella, snuggled in my lap, in her favorite Bones and Me blanket, before the sedative took hold, and snored peacefully as she gently slipped away.

My heart was broken, but rescue did what rescue was supposed to do. DRSF was her safety net when her family abandoned her and provided her the care she needed, and gave me the opportunity to have her come home, even for a short time to be loved and spoiled, and feel the sunshine on her face and the grass of her back yard under her feet before she was helped across the bridge as gently as possible.

Tahiti, you were with us for just a short time, but you will be forever loved and forever remembered. Until we meet again, look for the guy in the fleece and he will take care of you ❤
