Cripple Creek Donkeys - Two Mile High Club The Cripple Creek Donkeys free roam the city proper from Memorial Day through mid October. Please only feed donkeys approved biscuits Why?

The Cripple Creek Donkeys have been taken care of by the Two Mile High Club since 1931. Funny name for the Club, right?? Well back in the day, we were called Miles High Club. It's because Cripple Creek sits at an elevation that is right at two miles above sea level. The Cripple Creek Donkeys free roam the city proper from Memorial Day through mid-October. In the fall and winter, we put them into t

heir winter pasture where they get food, shelter & protection from the elements. This winter pasture is graciously donated by the City of Cripple Creek. You are welcome to visit them at the pasture, which is located at 510 CR 89, Cripple Creek CO. PLEASE ONLY FEED DONKEYS APPROVED DONKEY BISCUITS. Under the direction of the herds veterinarian, please DO NOT feed the donkeys apples, carrots, bananas or anything other than approved biscuits. While these may sound like healthy options, they are high in sugar and just like the rest of us as we age, we need to keep our sugar intake in check. Donkeys will eat anything, but we encourage you NEVER to give them any processed food and or packaged junk food. They cannot digest many foods like humans do and even though they may like junk food, it can make them very sick. The Two Mile High Club is 100% donation and grant funded. We provide care, food and shelter with support from members, visitors, and sponsors. We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) club. ALL donations go directly to their care. The club is run by all local volunteers. You can donate and learn more at cripplecreekdonkeys.com. Our website provides you with the history of the donkeys, our annual events, and pictures of our current herd and their names. If you are interested in volunteering with our nonprofit, please e-mail us at [email protected]. Thank you for visiting the Cripple Creek Donkeys!!

What’s the Deal with the Donkeys?

The Two Mile Club is the oldest non-profit in the State of Colorado. The club donates their time to the care and feeding of our wild donkey herd. Some of the donkeys are believed to be descendants of the donkeys used in the mines during the great gold rush of Cripple Creek. The club relies entirely on donations to support the care and feeding of the herd. Being that veterinary care can be quite expensive, any and all donations are greatly appreciated. The club holds two large fundraising events every year. One is Donkey Derby days which was started in 1931. The other is our Fall Aspen Tour done in late September every year. Memberships are available through this page and by contacting us through our email. As of August 2019, there are 17 donkeys in the herd, ranging in age from Deckers, a precocious 2 years old, to Jenny, a placid 39 year old.

Be sure to stop by the winter pasture on CR 89 just outside the southwest end of town to see Jenny or catch the herd wandering the streets in search of their next snack. The donkeys will eat anything, but please limit the treats to approved biscuits (available at local shops and attractions), carrots, apples, and celery. Help us keep the herd happy and healthy!
