PSA re: kitty water consumption and kidney disease: Indoor cats are at high risk for kidney disease. Cats who are fed only dry food are even more at risk because cats do not drink enough water to make up for this. In the wild, cats get most of their water intake from their food. A mouse is like 70% water. You should feed your cat a mix of wet and dry food for optimum health. It’s also important to understand how to get your cat to drink more water. First, do not place your cat’s food and water near each other. Cats instinctually don’t drink water near their food because had they killed the food, nearby water would likely be contaminated. For similar reasons, cats drink much less water if it’s just sitting in a dish than if it’s flowing. In the wild, stagnant water tends to harbor disease. You can get a cat fountain for $15-20 to increase water intake. Please note that not any fountain will do. Pet fountains have filters to ensure that the water remains clean. Please share this info to help save the kitties!
