This little pudge is so loved already! He loves to sleep leaning against the bed or his mom, or sitting upright. 😂 With no one to fight over milk with he is growing fast!!

It was a long night/day/night for this mama. At the end of it we have one sweet little male. There was a sister but sadly she was born sleeping. We took a trip to the emergency vet when we had some signs of complications. She gave birth to both pups in the back of the van on the way to Grand Rapids. We can’t wait to spoil mama and our little boy.

Time to start prepping for some puppies. Should be about a week.

We confirmed yesterday that we have one last litter arriving! This looks to be a much smaller litter. Maybe only 2-4 pups. Let us know if you want to be added to the list. After this sweet Aspen will be retiring.

This is the food the puppies have been eating. It is a highly rated kibble. If you continue to use this kibble Chewy autoship has the best prices I have found.

If you choose to use a different kibble you will want to gradually change it over.

Such a good reminder as puppies move into their new homes. As special as it is, it can be a very trying time as well. the added stress of potty training can bring frustrations as well. Remember, it’s just a season. 💜

THIS IS A PSA

Puppies bite. They bite a lot. They bite hard. Their teeth are sharp. You might bleed. It might seem relentless.

Scaring the pants off them by yelling, pinning, shoving or shouting will not only do precisely zero, it will potentially create a fearful adult dog.

Puppies bite more when;
They are tired
They are hungry
They are bored
They are overstimulated
They are teething

Read that again. They bite MORE when they are the above. They will also bite when they are absolutely fine. They are dogs not dolls.

Be compassionate not scary. They will grow out of it but only if you teach them a good alternative. Trade for toys. Use a pen or a crate. Teach calmness. Reward gentle interactions. Grit your own teeth and ride it out while reinforcing good stuff and proactively managing bad stuff.

Be proactive when you know biting happens like after some play, when excitement goes up, when they are overtired (7-9pm witching hour anyone?) and give them a good chew or help them settle, or channel that energy into some training.

It does get better basically. Don’t panic. Most puppy biting isn’t aggression. Be CONSISTENT and PROACTIVE and expect more than a few bites along the way.

Apparently me cleaning out the puppy space is exhausting for them! 😆 I can’t believe they will be ready to join their forever homes in about 2 weeks!!

Puppies are starting to move around so much now - but these sweet little babies tire fast still. Hopefully I will catch them in play action this weekend. For now, here is the aftermath.

1 week old today. Most everyone has doubled their weight and then some even though they still seem tiny. We are trying collars on everyone but they all have nail polish if not. Weight is tracked daily to make sure everyone is thriving.
