Just like the Sears sibling pics of our youth. That one kid, Chewy, protecting the group from non-danger with a ferocious almost silent “haaaaaaaaa”. Believe it or not, these babies have come a loooonnnngggg way already. Kibble, the little tortie at the back had her spay yesterday and does actually love the lovies. Munch (far left) and Nibbler’s licky treat addiction will be their socialization slow moving magic bullet. For the right setting, patience and respect, these guys all have perfect pet potential. We’d love to help you help them. Be in touch.

Welcome back to Cashew (tabby boy) and Pistachio (black beauty boy)! They were placed in a family together in August, but it just wasn’t the right fit. The family found the young kids, young cats combo overwhelming and made a wise decision to reach back to us. After a few days of decompression I am seeing nothing but impish sweetness radiating. Cashew is the leader-long legs and all “reach and grab”-I think he will be a quick trick learner. Pistachio looks innocent and puts himself in his carrier to watch when things get busy sometimes, but don’t let his shyness fool you-he loves water. So much. So much that their water dish sits in a bin to save the floor. Perfect solution for all! These guys are up to date on vaccines and neutered. They are ready to come over and test your Christmas tree stand. Just kidding, they’d never.

He’s just a little guy trying so hard to be a good little guy and not lunge at the necklace. He wants to play, he wants the lovies. He and his brother both need so badly to come out of foster care and be someone’s good little guys. maple

Maple and Ethan had a terrific time at Rens Pets this weekend meeting our neighbours! Maple specifically was very interested in all the dog friends who came in and we took note so if you have a dog and are interested in adding a cat duo these are the guys for you! The perfect balance, Maple is outgoing and clever and could absolutely be taught tricks while Ethan is a little more chill, but absolutely best buds with Maple and will join in on the shenanigans before settling down in your lap. These boys are about 5 months old and ready to find their adoptive family!

Thanks always to Rens for all the local support!

Cardi and Mumps in jail for kitten shenanigans. Just kitting! These girls thrived in three separate foster homes with us, and are now officially on their way HOME!

We are so often faced with mysteries in kitten rescue, sparse histories, odd symptoms, odder behaviour, and in Pepper Potts case, “why do you seem so sad darling?” Not to say there hasn’t been progress. Her ears are up, her panic dashing has decreased, she will eat-most of the time, but always if licky treats are offered. She purrs when petted, but remains uneasy and low. We were told she is pregnant, but see little evidence of it and don’t want to add to her stress right now with a vet visit. So time will tell. In the meantime, we give her love, and space, and a cuddly unicorn to hang out with.

Know what happens when you hang out at Ren’s on Queen for a few hours? You meet great people and get spoiled by the staff! If you get a chance, pop in this weekend-the store is full of great stuff and great people!

These boys are heart melters. The looks they give make you drop everything to snuggle or play. Left we have Ethan, who has recovered beautifully from a vicious virus, and Maple who came to us practically perfect in every way-including a one of a kind squeaky meow. They are sure they are brothers now, and sure they want to stay together forever. Be in touch if these are the boys for you!

“Yes, can we help you? We were napping so make it quick” Ethan (tabby and white), Andre (grey tabby) and Melissa (brown tabby), our Olympian kittens, have been tiring themselves out training for the next games. All the running, jumping, climbing, balancing and ball chasing all the time. This crew is ready to head to purrfect homes!

Things went so well at Ella Minnow Children's Bookstore today! A couple of adoptions and a new hire-Hazel! Just kidding, Hazel would rather be a house pet, but she showed today just how sweet and chill she can be. Also, take a look at Mumford’s face-she knows she just won the family lottery and is set for life! Write a caption...

This is why we do it. These sweet mamas who need to come inside, have their babies in safety and then go to their own home, spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. But we are sort of stopped up at the moment with adoptable kittens. This is why we are hosting adoption events this week, first at Ella Minnow tomorrow and then maybe an other event in the area Thursday-tbd. Also-we need a foster for this mama. Anyone in the east end want to consider this? Pop to our website for the foster application and we can talk!

Every lap in every foster home looks like this. We need more laps! Apply to adopt on our website, or spread the word for us.

You’d love a pair of stunning orange kittens? But are worried about them running amok in your home? Have we got the kittens for you! These guys just sleep the day away. Honest 🤣. Be in touch. We have other models if orange isn’t your thing-but they may trash your house.

Caterina and Katje, a bit surprised, but have warmly welcomed a new member to their little family. New baby was found alone and cared for by some kind and now very tired people who are relived to have Caterina take over. We can’t know for sure that new baby will make it, but they are warm, fed and licked clean top to bottom, so we call it a success! But spread the word-we need adopters! So many kittens ready for homes!

Caterina had a big day! This is going to be a very doted upon kitten! And while this baby is a teeny tiny toe bean, we have a whole bunch approaching adoption age, and maybe it’s time to consider a summer of kitten fun!

Watch for the side-eye at the end from Chewy our ferocious hisser from the last post. He is becoming a very brave boy. He prefers “accidental” pats that drifted over to him from his eager for lovies brother Nibbler. But he is sticking around and seems disappointed if I don’t persist.
Had a great day at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair today-it’s been a while. In the exhibits I saw farmers doing right by their animals everywhere, and animals rightly featured for their contributions. Huge respect for farmers! But, know what I saw no mention of (except on one booth featuring a really innovative product, more on that later)? No demonstration of farm cats in action (which is understandable and probably best for everyone), no education area, no talk of their contributions. And yet so many of our cats and kittens are farm rescues, kittens seen as expendable, pregnant kittens, scared cats and kittens who have no socialization and no health care. Farms depend on them, and yet too many show a lack of regard for them that would not be acceptable for other farm creatures. I’d never noticed this before, but knowing I had Ethan in my foster room to come home to brought it home to me. A little darling, as soft as the most prized Rex bunny, as sweet as can be. He and his siblings came to us so sick one didn’t make it. They are are still facing health issues from neglect as newborns. And we will never know what happened to their mother, though we hope she was also scooped in the rescue operation. Ethan is safe, his other siblings adopted. But what about the thousands going unnoticed? How do we get barn cats the credit and care they deserve? #royalagriculturalwinterfair #barncatsofinstagram
There is no music that would make this sound better. Sweet little Peter, of the Beatrix Potter litter, loving the lovies and the best toy of all, his own tail! Two of his siblings were adopted this weekend and going to the most WONDERFUL homes, while he and his sister Mopsy are living it up in foster care for a bit longer. Nothing but goodness in either scenario.
Maple, checking in with me to see if we are as grateful as he is with @renspetstoronto, specifically the Queen east location, for directing food from their Thanksgiving food drive towards Cats Cradle. And we are! Check out that Old Mother Hubbard situation we had going on!
Quite the voice on this guy Maple. Makes up for his brother’s almost silent meows.
We wonder how many ‘fraidy cats have been tamed due to developing a Churu addiction. The ears say no, the slurpy licker, yes. Pepper Potts has me standing tippy-toed on a stool to reach the top of the cupboard, rolling the Churu like an aging tube of toothpaste with one hand. @inaba_churu, you do good work! And we need more Churus asap!
Oh Scooter, you are a lively one! This young gal is full of love and sass. She would do well to start as an only cat for a time we think, or as a partner to a very confident young cat. Anyone ready to pounce? Be in touch!
When you are hungry and nervous and your kitten just doesn’t care. We are trying to get some meds into Hannah, it’s been a challenge since we are only sharing distances slow blinks so far. She wants the other food so bad, but has to eat the sneaky med laced food first. Poor sweetie! Hannah needs some time, but we have so many adorable kittens coming up to adoption age! Be in touch!

Our Story
Cats Cradle Toronto was started in 2020 by a mother-daughter-daughter trio who saw a space within the existing animal rescue community for a kitten specific rescue in the east end of the city with top notch fostering support, engaging purr-fect matching efforts (kitten Tinder anyone?) and conscientious adoption facilitation.
We are new to this. And what we are now isn’t what we will be in a while, with your help. And when we say we are new to this, we mean new to formal animal rescue. We are not at all new to loving animals and welcoming animals in need into our lives. We are certainly not new to taking care of kittens, including the teenie tinies. People find us. They know we are suckers for the kittens. And we’ve been foster successes, and once a foster fail...with a sweet girl who took 6 months to mend from an accident and stayed for ten years. Our foster tally so far, is about 20 kittens, some independently found, others through area rescues.
We have so much to learn, and we are eager to work with everyone in the Toronto animal rescue community, but we do know some things already! And what we know right now is that we are dedicated to providing the BEST care possible to kittens who come our way. We will do everything we can to train, support and honour our fostering partners so they are able to raise kittens ready to be their BEST little selves in their new homes. We will do our BEST to prepare our adoptive homes to make a life-long commitment to our kittens. And we are committed to telling our kittens’ stories to the BEST of our ability so they are able to go into their new homes as quickly as possible.
We also know that working with kittens is expensive and exhausting (physically and emotionally). Kittens often need kitten formula and always need specialized food. They need specific kitty litter, they need vet care. And they need these things at all hours, day and night. Kinda like human babies. All the money, all the time. So we will be leaning on our community and supporters for help. We will keep you posted.
Ok, one story...
One of our founder’s (Heather, the mother in the founding trio) first foster kitten came about by word of mouth, as is often the case. An old friend from high school’s had a barn cat go missing, with a litter of tiny kittens left behind. She found them too late, and was heartbroken. But at the very bottom of the nest, was one who was alive and making a lot of noise. She brought that baby into the house and it yelled all night. By morning the friend was pleading for help. Heather went and picked up the kitten, who turned out to be around three weeks old (and also had a lovely tea visit with her old friend). Baby Boo took to the bottle like a champ and spent the next few weeks travelling around with Heather hidden in scarves around her neck. No one knew Baby Boo was there...except the people who caught them warming bottles in the sink of public bathrooms and bottle feeding in corners of public buildings. Baby Boo went on to be adopted by friends of friends, as is also often the case.
