Horseback riding dates back OVER 5,000 YEARS! And since then, it has been more than just a leisure activity or sport. It is a holistic experience that can significantly impact your body and mind.

3 Physical benefits of horseback riding:

➡️ Improved core strength: Maintaining balance and posture while riding engages your core muscles, leading to increased strength and stability!

➡️ Enhanced coordination: Guiding a horse requires synchronization between your hands, legs, and body.

➡️ Increased cardiovascular health: Regular riding sessions, especially at faster trots and canters, provide an excellent cardiovascular workout!

These are just a few of the physical benefits of riding. If you consistently ride you know that you are often sore after a good lesson!

Next week we will talk about the physical benefits (which are my personal favorites) of horseback riding!

What other physical benefits can you think of?! ⬇️⬇️

A small stab in the heart is what you feel when you put up the day's riding list and you see riders sinking heavily in their shoulders when reading which horse they are assigned for the lesson. A small stab in the heart for that horse that for an hour will carry around a rider who has already decided that he does not like his horse. A small stab in the heart for the horse that did not choose the rider himself but still does his best, lesson after lesson.

Riding is a privilege and something you have chosen to do. If you chose to ride at a riding school, your instructor assumes that you actually want to learn how to ride. The instructor's highest wish is that you get good at it.

Often there is a plan and a thought as to why you are assigned to that exact horse. Before you mount up next time, ask yourself "what can this horse teach me today?" All horses have something to give, a feeling or a new tool in the box.

The art is actually in being able to get a lazy horse to move forward, to get an uncertain horse to gain confidence, a naughty horse to focus or a tense horse to be released. It takes work. If you think a horse is boring, it's more likely that you don't ride the horse as well as you think! It's not easy to be confronted with your own shortcomings, but it is in that very situation that you get the chance to truly grow as a rider.

The excuse that "it's not my kind of horse" is actually a really bad excuse. A good rider can ride any kind of horse. A good rider has trained many hours on different types of horses to become a good rider. A good rider can find and manage the gold nuggets in every horse.

If we absolutely want to ride, it is our duty to strive to do it as best as possible, even if it's only for fun. We owe it to every horse that carries us upon it's back.

Copied and shared with love for all of our horses, ponies and riders 🐎❤🐎

Grazing isn’t just a leisure activity for horses; it’s a fundamental aspect of their well-being. Here’s why it’s so crucial:

Natural Diet: Grazing allows horses to indulge in their natural diet of grass and plants, which is vital for their digestive health and overall vitality.

Constant Forage: When horses have access to pasture, they can graze throughout the day, ensuring a steady intake of food. This constant forage keeps their digestive system in motion, reducing the risk of colic and ulcers.

Mental Stimulation: Grazing offers more than just sustenance—it’s also mental enrichment! Horses relish the opportunity to explore different terrain, sample various plants, and engage their senses, keeping their minds sharp and active.

Social Interaction: Grazing in a herd setting isn’t just about the food; it’s about community. Horses are social creatures, and grazing together allows them to interact naturally, satisfying their need for companionship and reinforcing social bonds.

Next time you spot a horse happily grazing in the great outdoors, remember that it’s not just about eating—it’s about fulfilling their natural instincts and enjoying a holistic sense of well-being. 🌿🐴

I'm sharing this because it's so true how we get caught up and forget....

Don’t over complicate it.... 🐎💙☘️

There was a time when you were just happy to ride, happy to be in the company of horses. It didn’t matter if you could execute a perfect lead change or jump double clear rounds. You were just happy to have two feet in the stirrups and ears leading the way!

You didn’t care about having the best tack, the coolest boots, or the newest hi-tech breeches. An old ex-racehorse, your favorite, old worn out pair of jeans with a colorful t-shirt did the job just fine!

You didn’t spend the days between Christmas and New Year’s planning a heavy schedule of training sessions, clinics and competitions. You threw tinsel around your pony’s neck and went hacking with friends! The new year was just another 365 days to go riding!

Don’t forget that you started this sport because you loved the animal. You loved the rush of galloping across open fields and the serenity of watching horses quietly graze in the sun. You do this because there is nothing on this earth that makes you feel more alive than being on the back of a horse, so don’t overcomplicate it…

Enjoy the little things, because one day you will look back and realize... they weren’t little at all. 🐎💙☘️
