I've spent the last 8 months researching, writing, and designing a guide that I hope will be valuable to the rat community. This guide is meant to cover the basics when it comes to rat breeding, including topics such as anatomy, husbandry, genetics, illnesses, and so much more.

While it's designed for aspiring or novice breeders, a few sections will likely be beneficial for pet owners who find themselves with accidental litters.

This document can be downloaded as either pages or spreads, so it can be viewed however you're most comfortable. It will be a living document, so if you come across mistakes or information that you can prove to be factually incorrect, by all means, let me know! Well, a few updates!

⭐️ Applications are OPEN for the ferret waiting list for 2024 litters!
I am expecting micro and standard in Silver and Sable.

⭐️ HOUTEN CANCELLATION 😭
I will, unfortunately, not be able to make it to Houten in September.
Due to some unexpected events, I will not be able to take any animals, bring any back, or even attend in person.
Very upsetting as I was looking forward to attending the show and seeing my fellow breeders again. But I'll be back next year instead (possibly with a stand/table 👀)

⭐️ I have reopened the waiting list for rats!
There is a back log of applications and I have a lot of emails and messages to respond to, thank you for your patience 💙

⭐️ NEW RODENT ROOM
Last year I moved to a much bigger place and the rats have been living it up in a lovely office room.
However, I've run out of space! There's only so many cages and critters that can fit.
So, I'm having one of the lovely stables here converted into a rodent room. This should be done by the end of September which means for anyone adopting in October, I'll have a halloweeny themed rat room for you to have a peek at.

I still operate on a "closed" basis to avoid spreading anything nasty and wiping out my whole rodentry, but with this new space will come updated pictures (which are heavily overdue) and more frequent lightbox pictures.
Collections will still be done in the garden/parking area.

Thank you for your patience. I’m slowly getting back to normal but it seems I’ll be unwell over Christmas.
I will work to respond to my, what seems like a mountain, of correspondence on Thursday evening/Friday morning 🥲

Apologies for those who have sent emails, messages, and applications.

My family and I haven’t been well since around the 20th of November so I haven’t been quite as active.
Nothing super serious, but everything we could’ve picked up from pre-school/work/out and about we have 😭
I’m still quite unwell, so I will likely resume communication once I’m fully better.

It was picture day yesterday! 📸
Z2 litter + some ratties for adopters were ousted from their abodes for pictures and they will be edited and sent out today.
It's our first time taking pictures with the lightbox + a simple phone, instead of our big camera as one of us forgot to charge it 🥲

I’m limiting myself to only keeping two of the four bucks in the recent litters. Who, though, I’m unsure 🥲
They will be staying until at least 12 weeks regardless.

Another reason why sourcing a good breeder is so important.

GENETIC TEMPERAMENT MATTERS

We had an urgent call from one of our adopters this week 💙

She adopted a pair rats from us almost 3 years ago and one of the bucks passed away recently, leaving his friend alone 💔

We decided to loan out one of our retired bucks to keep the old man company, especially while mourning the loss of his friend. 💙

This buck is from our Essex line. A line that originally showed a lot of aggression.
We have put so much work into them over the past few years and this was definitely the ultimate test in the temperament we have been working on 💙

These bucks have NEVER met. The younger buck has only ever known his own colony.

We put them in the cage together and they instantly clicked ❤️
No fighting. No drama. Nothing but love and affection from both sides. ❤️

This is why we do what we do.
This is why we only ever breed the best to the best.
This is why we don't just adopt out every single rat we breed.
This is why we are so strict with our selections.

Because we KNOW that we can put our rats into ANY unknown environment and they will take it all in their stride.

We can safely say we have eradicated all the aggression in this particular line.
This is true genetic temperament. ❤️
