I have volunteered at animal shelter and a was a to foster mom to baby kittens that needed extra attentions. when i went off to college i took an aptitude test to help me decide which direction i should pursue my studies. Test results shows the best job for me was a killer whale trainer. Lol but hunesty it didn't surprise me. So to fine my self breeding the savanna cats is no surprise me at all. The Savannah Cat’s personality is playful, adventurous and loyal. Unlike most cats, she loves to play in water and can even be trained to walk on a leash and play fetch. Don’t be fooled by her dog-like personality, though.
Temperament

Savannah Cats have strong hunting instincts, so they aren’t always suitable for households with pets like fish, hamsters, and birds. Her temperament is mild, though, so she’s a great companion to other cats and dogs, children and other humans in her home with proper socialization as a kitten.
Characteristics

Although later generations of the breed are similar in weight to other breeds, they appear larger due to their height. Savannah Cats are characterized by their long, slender necks, triangular heads and large, wide ears that sit on top of their heads. They also have longer-than-average legs.
Lifespan

12 to 20 years
Colors

If you want an exotic-looking cat, the Savannah is a beautiful choice. Resembling their African Serval ancestors, Savannahs are typically black, brown or silver tabbies with black or dark brown spots. Some may have lighter colors or a smoked pattern, however.
Shedding

Savannah Cats are a lower-shedding breed, and so they require less grooming than long-haired breeds. Because of their playful nature, however, they may get into a mess and need a bath. Fortunately, they love water!
Health

Savannah Cats are a healthy breed, with no known genetic conditions or other health problems. They are at risk of suffering from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (thickening heart muscle) but are no more prone to heart problems than other cross-breeds. Responsible breeders screen for conditions that could negatively affect the breed.
Choosing the Best Cat Food for Savannahs

Because of their high activity levels, a high-protein cat food like Pro Plan Savor or True Nature Formula is recommended for Savannahs. Follow the feeding instructions based on your cat’s weight and consult with your veterinarian if you have any questions

Savannah cats Basic Care

When it comes to raising Savannah Kittens into adulthood the philosophy is to "Expect only what you put into your Savannah Cat". If you provide proper daily care of exercise, mental stimulation and positive reinforcement training while young, it will result into healthy well-adjusted adults.

If you're considering adopting a Savannah Kitten you will need to preform kitten-proofing, obtain necessary care items and pick a quarantine room. As a cat owner you also need crucial details on how to provide proper exercise that is both physically adequate and mentally enriching.

Before bringing home you kitten you will need to kitten-proof your home. This ensure your kitten's safety as well as your own. Kittens are lively and curious, which can lead them into serious trouble unless you take preventative measures. A kitten has a lower vantage point than yours, like a crawling baby, and may be attracted to things you do not see when you are standing.

Cover Electrical Cords

Add Cabinet Latches

Remove Pull Down Door K***s

After bringing home your new kitten you must quarantine. Quarantine is a time frame of 2-3 weeks of personal one-on-one time with new owner(s). Rushing the introduction process can result in a scared, skittish and unsure feline that can result in unruly behavior at your fault not the cat.

Vaccinations

Currently we are using Dr. W. Jean Dodd's vaccination protocol. This protocol is now being adopted by ALL 27 North American veterinary schools. Important to note that mom's antibodies are not completely gone till 16 weeks thus shots given earlier may have no effect. Shots are given 3-4 weeks apart, never give a booster shot when a cat shows signs of being sick.

Best Food For Savannah Cats

Find the best food for Savannah cats in no time with this run down of the most suitable, most delicious meals perfectly matched to the Savannah’s nutritional needs.

Savannah cats are one of just a handful of modern domestic cat breeds that can trace their current breeding lineage all the way back to a genuine wild cat – in this case, the wild African Serval cat.

This wild heritage makes the Savannah cat breed is one of the most visually striking and beautiful cats in existence.

Interestingly, the Savannah is also known as the tallest breed of cat, standing on average 5 inches taller than other domestic cats!

The Savannah cat is a very new breed of cat that got its start just a few decades ago in the 1980s and is still developing rapidly.

So what kind of Savannah cat food should you feed this unique hybrid cat breed?

All of these products were carefully and independently selected by The Happy Cat Site team. If you decide to make a purchase from one of the links marked by an asterisk, we may earn a small commission on that sale. This is at no extra cost to you.

When you found your Savannah kitten, they were probably avertized alongside a filial number, such as F5 or F8.

The filial number gives you a rough estimate of how much wild serval is still left in your purring Savannah.

An F1 Savannah has a serval parent, an F2 Savannah has a serval grandparent, and an F3 Savannah has a Serval great-grandparent.

You can read more about how this affects the proportion of serval DNA they have in our complete guide to the Savannah breed.

But what does it mean as for feeding your Savannah cat?

Well, the closer your Savannah cat is to its African Serval cat ancestor, the more like her wild cat parent she will be!

Also, she will have a digestive system that is more specialized to digest only those foods a wild obligate carnivore (pure meat-eater) would normally consume.

This means she may not be able to metabolize the nu

Sav rescue update 25th Jan 2022

Those of you who followed the journey of the 10 rescues Savannah's will know its been a rough ride for around a month.

Several of the kittens struggled and it was touch and go for the longest time. Frankly its been a strain, but a labour of love and determination.
The Volunteer Angels have been in to help clean up and feed and generally do necessary daily duties and the reward is Savannah kittens cuddles…which they say is very addictive and they wished they could stay all day. I’m very jealous (in a good way) they look like great fun now, but only thanks to all the hard work

Two, Mommy and one of her sons Prancer, who just did not thrive without his mum have gone to their new home. I am sure you will hear all about that in due course when they are settled.

A couple more are marked to go as a pair. The rest will be homed as they are ready from the list many of you completed as wanting to adopt.

I cannot tell you who, how or why got picked. That's purely a matter for the shelter. I assure you they had some amazing applicants and will always seek to do best by these kittens they have worked so hard to save.
Fun News was that YOUR CAT MAGAZINE contacted Marnie Buckland yesterday and said they received a lot of votes for her as a ‘Community Cat Hero’ and would like to give her the ‘Community Cat Hero’ Award next month and wanted to talk to her about the rescue and all the work she has done. Cool!...need to watch out for that then!
In the meantime here are some more Sav Pics to show you how they have come on and how socialised they have become. Marnies frequently cats get mentioned as being extremely loving, it because they are SHOWN so much love.

20 Fun Facts You Didn’t Know About Savannah Cats

The Savannah Cat is a popular breed of house pet and show feline. The cats are a hybrid of the Serval, an African wild cat, and the Siamese, a domestic cat. First bred in the 1980’s, the cats have proven to be a beloved hybrid pet. It took some time for the cats to achieve recognition as a breed. However, the Savannah Cat has become popular for its exotic appearance and its tameness as a house pet. Savannah cats are large, yet sleek. The original generations bear a striking resemblance to their African ancestor. The cats are intelligent and social. In fact, the Savannah Cat is charming and makes a wonderful family pet.
Here are 20 fun facts you didn’t know about Savannah Cats.

The Serval and the Siamese

Savannah Cats are the result of cross breeding a domestic Siamese cat with an African wild cat. The Siamese cat has been bred since the nineteenth century. With distinctive eyes and bodies, the Siamese cat has become a popular breed of domestic cat. Intelligent and playful, the Siamese often becomes an important part of its adoptive human family. The Serval is a native of Africa found mostly in the sub-Saharan region of the continent. The Serval resembles a small cheetah with a long, sleek body, golden goat and black spot and stripe markings. The Serval is medium sized standing between 21 and 25 inches at the shoulder. Slender yet strong, the Serval can weigh between 20 and 40 pounds. Its legs are long, its head is small, and it has long pointed ears. The short tail on the Serval has a black marking at the tip. Servals can be both nocturnal and diurnal depending on what type of prey it is hunting.

More facts about Servals

Serval is Portuguese for “wolf-deer”. They are also called “bush cats” and “Giraffe cats”. The Serval looks like a small cheetah. Like the cheetah, Servals run fast. Servals are referred to as the “Savannah Stalker” because of their good hunting skills. They catch their prey 50 percent of the time
