I just got home from my first ARBA National Convention, and what an experience! I met my goal of showing a chinchilla Rex at convention, and we even brought home ribbons! A highlight for me was earning 6th place out of a class of 51 Int. Californian bucks. Both of my breeds are so competitive, and my herd held their own on the show table.🥰

This show would have been entirely overwhelming (check out the sea of bunny cages in the comments) if it hadn't been for my fellow breeders, sharing both their experience and camaraderie. I'm already planning my upcoming litters and looking forward to next year!

Bunnicula gave me a couple presents. The color difference between these two 8 week old castor siblings is wild. I'm still learning, but I THINK the bottom one is wideband. Time will tell.

To the person who dumped what was likely an "Easter bunny" in my yard: you're the worst sort of person and don't deserve to have any animals. You were not giving that bunny "a better life", because herd biosecurity is of utmost importance.🤬🤬🤬

Announcement: It has come to my attention that a Rex buck I sold is a carrier of the recessive gene that causes cateracts/moon-eye. I had no knowledge of this before today and am in the process of acquiring test breeding stock to further clarify who carries it. If you have stock from me with Alder or Cherry, it's possible they are a carrier too. I will share the results of my tests, and as always am willing to buy back my stock.

I was bitten badly by a breeding buck when I reached in to pick up a doe who had refused to lift for him. Thankfully, I had a sweatshirt on, but it still hurts like heck. He had already earned a couple "strikes" for things like biting his neighbor (last photo). For his behavior, he earned a trip to the hopper popper. His hide will be tanned, and he will be supper for the dogs.

My rabbitry is my outlet for stress, and I don't have room in it for an aggressive buck. If the does he just bred took, their kits will be scrutinized for any indication of aggressive behavior. I hate having to cull sometimes, but conformation isn't the only trait I select for in my herd.

Life is too short for mean bucks.

The Lawrence County 4-H Rabbit Club put on a well run show this weekend! I always love supporting them since it was my 4-H rabbit club as a kid, where I first learned to love rabbits!

While there weren't a ton of Californians on the table, I was really proud of how a couple of my does performed.

HH Gnocchi: BOB Show B under Ryan Harrah (my first Cal BOB with enough competitors and rabbits to earn a leg!)
HH Coat: BOSB Shows C and D under Dave Houser and Bruce Ormsby, respectively

I didn't have many Rex in prime to show, but I'm absolutely pleased with the direction my herd is going. I love this hobby and watching good people win with good rabbits.

Had an excellent time at the Rabbit Renegades show in Peoria, IL this weekend. It was great fun to see my fellow Rex and Cal breeders, and I LOVED that there was a great turnout of chinchilla Rex! Congrats to all who won this weekend!❤️ I'll be recovering like little Daisy here (who I'm super excited to see grow up!)

Yesterday I had a great time at the Pike Gibson RBA 25th Anniversary Thanksgiving Show.
My senior castor buck, HH Maple, won BOB in both shows, and RIS show A! Thank you to Tom Berger and Danielle Lowe for recognizing him. It was an honor to represent the Rex breed. Congratulations also go to Buffy Prater and Bailey Farmer for their BOSB wins!🥳

It's always a great weekend when I get to show with the Rex and Cal folks at a Rabbit Renegades show!

I was looking forward to my first show after the worst of the summer heat, and this one did not disappoint!

Thanks to Rusty Westhoff for recognizing my white junior buck, HH Flame, as BOSB in Open show A Friday night!

There were some really high quality Cals on the table this weekend, and I was happy to hold my own with such tough competition. My junior buck, HH Twicebaked, made a good impression, generally placing in the top 3 in large classes.

Of course, my fellow breeders are really what makes showing special. Thanks all, and see you at the next show!

Got to look at a newly weaned 8 week old litter, and I saw some things I like.👀😍

I'm super excited to see how this first litter out of Roots G11 ("Giselle") from Roots of Joy turns out. Our prediction that she'd cross well with Roots Alder seems to be correct so far!🤞 I'm so thankful to have such a lovely (and sweet natured) doe!

ARBA Conv 2021

That's a LOT of bunnies.😳 I'm so glad I went to the ARBA national convention as a spectator. I got to see how a show this huge is run, meet many Rex breeders in person for the first time, and hang out with those that are already friends! Plus, I got to bring this cute lady (in comments) from Roots of Joy home to improve my herd while supporting the National Rex Rabbit Club. (I guess I have broken in my herd now🤦‍♀️😅)
