We practice what we preach...or at least we try to 😂 Winny loves to bark and lunge every time someone passes the house. Solution- window film to decrease reactive behaviors at the window. Today we see him gazing out the window for a longer duration and it turns out, someone peeled it back so Winny could look out the window 😂 He is a dog and we've actually noticed a significant decrease in his reactive behaviors even with the peekaboo spot.
The only thing better than one happy Pity, is two happy Pity's 🐾 Phoebe and Abi have been having so much fun during our homeschool sessions. Their Mom sent this to me last night and it made me smile 🥰 How can you not laugh and love this?

We had a great visit with Tilly yesterday! She practiced her recall, loose leash walking, and for lots of love.
She was so excited for visitors that she got the zoomies. She had us laughing 😆 so hard because she was so silly and happy!

LGD breed’s are absolutely wonderful BUT so many people don’t realize that living with one successfully means learning to be their partner not their master. These dogs have thousands of years of traits being selected for that can’t *and shouldn’t* be trained out- but embraced and accepted. Are the cute and fluffy? Yes. But they’re also powerful guardians that bark, dig, and make choices that might not always align with your preferences. These dogs need people to understand their needs and help them be successful- even when they mature from adorable fluffball to mature guardian. Continuing education with our boy Tiny ❤️ He doesn't understand this neuroscience stuff, but that's ok! Each year we attend in-person and virtual conferences to stay up to date on the latest training techniques and practices. This weekend is a big one for us with the Unleash the Rainbow and the Shelter Medicine Conference. With so many amazing learning opportunities out for animal professionals, it's import to ask your trainer how they continue their education. Just owning a dog is not enough. We've owned a car for 18 years but we are not a mechanic 😂Knowledge is power ✅
Say hey to Dwight 🥰 This smush is a sweet, loving, energetic, and of course, adorable pup! We worked on teaching him how to politely welcome people into the home. One of the main reasons we love pity type dogs, is their enthusiasm for life 🙌🎉 However, we think it's important to teach our clients how to greet people calmly. Dwight did awesome 👏

Little Toki is chillin on the cooling pad 😎after a potty break. She started her 5-week homeschool program this week and we are having so much fun with her. When you think about it, owning a dog, a completely different species than us, often results in a language barrier.
We want them to listen, respect, and trust us almost immediately, but do we reciprocate?
Understanding canine body language is a top priority when you work with us.
It is important to understand that when your dog communicates to you by growling, lunging, or barking, they are not doing this because they want to dominate the household. They are communicating their needs and asking for you to listen and understand what they need at that moment.
Check out this wonderful resource! Every client we meet with gets this handout so they can crack their dog's code and communicate efficiently.
Remember, your dog isn't trying to give you a hard time when they are reacting with undesirable body language. They are trying to tell you they are HAVING a hard time! So, we say thank you for letting us know how you feel, and we make the appropriate adjustments in that situation!

We had another great Homeschool session with Remy ❤️ He's a typical labragator and can take treats a bit hard when he's excited 🙊 We added in a moving marker "get it" today. When he hears "yes" he knows to come get the treat from me and if he hears "get it" that means he will find the treat on the ground. This is what working with a dog who barks, growls, and lunges at people, dogs, noises, etc., should look like. This was our first session at Onondaga Lake and she crushed it 🐾❤️We've spent the first few days working on confidence and relationship building. Her choices to check in were on point✅Maybe a few barks were let out, which is fine! She's a dog! But not once did she go over threshold and have a meltdown.
