We are back from our short break and ready for October’s edition of Bazaar in the Gardens @ Jurong Lake Gardens! Last time was pretty cool and we saw some familiar faces so hopefully we’ll see you guys again this time too 🥳

If you’re interested in pre-ordering for pick-up at the market, order through our website and choose the self pick-up option. The pick-up option will be shown as Joo Chiat Market but it is okay to ignore this and write “JLG 28TH OCT” in the notes section instead. We’ll pack your order in advance so you’ll get our widest selection of produce 😉

Please place your orders by Thursday should you need vegetables for Friday delivery this week (13th October 2023).

Hello peepers! Today, we come bearing the news that this weekend, Jurong Lake Gardens is gonna be lit because we are descending on ‘s SustainableFest 2023 🌱🥳.

But jokes aside, as part of the festival, there is gonna be a plethora of activities to explore — the Green Market (that’s where we will be with 15+ other vendors!), a sustainable food market, biodiversity and edible plant guided tours, Kayak n Klean, etc. Don’t say bojio hor. Come by to get your dose of vitamin D and bring some newfound knowledge and fresh local veggies home 🥹

For the months of March and April, we are taking part in WWF-Singapore ‘s Earth Hour Challenge because here at Straits Agriculture, we value the Earth more than anything.

The changing climate is fueling environmental degradation, extreme weather events, food and water insecurity, economic disruption, loss of biodiversity and anxiety. Unsustainable human activities are wrecking the natural world we depend on. We feel deeply about this crisis.

Our world is changing faster than anyone predicted. As our natural world changes around us, so does our way of life. Sea levels are rising and oceans are becoming warmer. Climate change poses a fundamental threat to everything we love. Current emissions put the world on track to breach tipping points of 1.5°C, which can then cause irreversible impacts on people, environments and economies.

Without the Earth, there is no agriculture, and there is no us. Our planet’s future is in our hands & together we can make a change before it’s too late.

With effect from 1st Jan 2023, the GST rate will be increased from 7% to 8%.

Like every individual in Singapore, businesses like ours are also affected by the 2023 GST rate change. Like yours, our expenditures too will increase.

However, we will be keeping our prices the same for as long as we can - so fret not, you won’t be paying more for your veggies (for now) than you did last year.

SWIPE TO LOOK BACK ON OUR JOURNEY! ➡️

Now that the year is coming to an end, let's take a trip down memory lane to revisit some of the moments that have altered our brain chemistry and kept us doing what we are doing!

This year marked the first operational months of our rooftop farm at D'Arena. We started our first harvest this year as a trial in July and have since slowly increased our monthly output. We had new vegetables and herbs that joined our family of greens on the farm and so has our team grown with new additions of volunteers, and more recently part-timers.

As we look back on our progress, we must also recognize the struggles that we have braved through - such as the headaches of building a rooftop farm to dealing with persistent cyclical weather changes.

However, our motivation has always been our customers. It's always a joy to see others enjoy working, visiting and tasting our vegetables. We want to continue to provide the best quality vegetables to our lovely customers.

For the customers that have known us since our days at City Sprouts - with a heavy heart, we announce that we will be shutting down operations at City Sprouts. This is done to consolidate and streamline operations as we try to increase our outreach in the coming years.

The greenhouse at City Sprouts is not only the place we started but also our ground zero. The place where Straits Agriculture was born and transformed from a vision into a farm. It is also a place where we grew along with the farm and faced the endless challenges that farming had to offer. It taught us a lot about farming, and more importantly developed us holistically. It was a good run, but also time we look forward and march on! Good news though, the collection point is still in place. Stay tuned to our next announcement on where the new collection point will be.

So with all said and done, there is no perfect opportunity than now to thank everyone who has been with us on this journey thus far. We at Straits Agriculture wish you a delightful and fulfilling 2023 ahead.
