The premium is out for the Open Show in September 14 and 15 hosted by BBKA in South Jordan, UT! The Japanese Terrier Club of America is sponsoring prizes for the JT Breed and Best in Open Show winners. This will likely be the highest breed entry in the states and is a great opportunity to meet the breed in person for those interested😊

Kene got her last win to finish off her UKC CH. Hoshi competed in Novice Puppy as her first ever show and did fantastic for a 4 months old puppy🥳 Next up is AKC in Greeley next month

Male Puppy Available on a Co-Own
We have an import male puppy planned end of this month. The flight is finally confirmed. He will be the last import puppy before the new regulation comes in place August 1. Show and/or sport homes preferred for breed exposure.

I wish the back was Kenzo instead of Kene for actual comparison but oh well, they’ve got similar heads. Both of their heads are very wide and cheeky whereas Hange’s are too snippy for my liking. One of the biggest goal pairing Kenzo and Hange was to improve the head (amongst other things) and I’m very happy with the results. I think it improved their ears and expressions as well😊

Recently, we discovered the Copper Toxicosis gene in Japanese Terriers, highlighting the crucial importance of genetic testing for all breeding stock. Unfortunately, health testing is extremely rare in Japan, resulting in limited data on the breed. I was surprised to see this gene appear in some of our dogs’ results but am relieved to have identified a potential issue that we can now monitor more effectively. As the population in the state grows, I hope to gather more data.
When two carriers of the Copper Toxicosis gene are bred, there is a 100% chance that their puppies will be affected. This is entirely preventable through genetic testing and other health screenings. Dogs carrying just one copy of the gene, along with many other genetic diseases, don’t show symptoms, making it almost impossible to identify carriers without testing. Fortunately at this time we don’t have any dogs with both copies or showing any signs of CT.
The takeaway? Health test your dogs, even if they appear healthy. There’s no reason to risk the prevalence of genetic diseases when they can be easily identified and managed through simple testing. And if you still decide not to, Kenzo bites bybs

The CDC has announced its new rule on the importation of dogs from all countries (including rabies free)
All dog must be at least 6 months old and this will come in effect August 1.
If you are interested in the Japanese Terriers now is the time to do so. Please please reach out if you are interested in an import puppy. I would like to import as much as I can before this comes in place. Do not wait

Sunbathing shots from a bit ago ☀️
A nice thing about the Japanese Terriers, despite being a Terrier, is that they should not have any dog or same s*x aggression. All of the Terriers live together without needing to crate and rotate. Great for multi dog households😊
