It was incredibly hard to write this post.
Do you know how leather and wool are farmed?
If you don’t, you’re not alone. Many Americans, previously including myself, have no idea. The truth of how they are farmed is very painful.
Leather is farmed by removing an animal’s skin from it’s flesh. This usually takes place after the animal has been killed, but sometimes while the animal is still conscious. The most common leather used in the U.S. is cowhide, or cow skin.
Wool is farmed commonly by two methods: mulesing and shearing (involving sheep dipping). Mulesing is removing a sheep’s skin from it’s flesh around its bottom while it is conscious with no pain medication. Shearing is removing a sheep’s coat (wool) from it’s skin by shaving. For a sheep to be sheared, it must go through sheep dipping, the process of submerging sheep in a formulation of insecticide and fungicide. This is used to prevent parasites, and is extremely toxic.
That doesn’t sound nice at all… does it? It’s sickening. It’s unfathomable. It’s unspeakable.
That’s the problem, it’s unspeakable. It isn’t acceptable to discuss what really happens, so here we are as a society- brainwashed and clueless. 🗣
I am here to let you see a peek into the window of their world, and to advocate for conscious consumerism. Thank you PETA and all animal rights activists who are putting their mental health at stake to educate all of us and to love our planet’s creatures 💗
