This page has been set up to help any Shelters / Rescues or Individual persons in need of a foster.
Over the past 6 years my partner and I have fostered for two wonderful local charities, we have been privileged to welcome into hour home the most amazing dogs. If you have any doubts about fostering please look through the photo albums and enjoy like myself seeing the happiness in these dogs, having play or just chilling on the sofa. We have had the pleasure of sharing my home with the most amazing 50 foster dogs all with such different characteristics. 🐕 Wouldn't have it any other way. 🐕
I would rather have tears of sadness waiving my foster's off to their new homes than having tears of sadness seeing them quiver in their cells. 😍
Training and Socialization
When a shelter/sanctuary has too many dogs, it is extremely difficult to train and socialize each one of them. However, a well trained and socialised dog is more likely to be adopted sooner than one who isn’t. This is when a foster brings in the time and training so eventually the dogs in their care will find that forever home.
SPECIAL NEEDS
Foster homes are especially ideal for animals with special needs, who might require a little extra attention after surgery or senior pets needing a comfortable place to take it easy/palliative care. It might sound strange but I love caring for the senior dogs or dogs terminally ill. I couldn't bare to think of them spending their last few months inside a kennel.
SHELTERS
Shelters make every effort possible to keep dogs comfortable and happy, but the environment can still be traumatic and overwhelming for some, causing them to shut down emotionally or display destructive behaviors due to stress.
When this happens, they isolate themselves and fail to interact with people resulting in them being passed up by potential adopters.
Fostering helps to reduce overcrowding in shelters and opens up space for another animal to be saved. It also helps to prepare them for adoption by giving them a chance to live in a home where the can fully express their personality, to overcome fears, or recover from trauma.
HOME ENVIRONMENT
Some dogs aren’t accustomed to life in a home — maybe they were rescued from a puppy mill, previously lived as a stray, or were kept as an outside-only pet. They are likely not to understand the concept of stairs and navigating around furniture, or might be frightened by unfamiliar sounds like vacuums and kitchen appliances.
By living in a home with a family and other pets, they are able to learn something new every day while getting one-on-one attention from their foster family.
If you think you can foster, even if its for a few days or longer get in touch with your local shelter/charity.
