Feline Adoption: How to Find Your Perfect Fit ✨

Adopting a cat is more than falling in love with a cute face — it’s about building a lifelong match.🐱💛

💡 What to consider when choosing your cat:

✔️ Personality & Temperament → Is the cat playful, independent, shy, or cuddly? Match their energy to your lifestyle.
✔️ Age → Kittens require time, patience, and training. Adult cats often settle quicker and already have established personalities.
✔️ Household Dynamics → Do you have children, other pets, or a busy home? Look for a cat who thrives in that environment.
✔️ Special Needs → Senior cats or those with medical/behavioural needs can be incredibly rewarding for the right guardian.
✔️ Your Lifestyle → Travel often? Work long hours? Choose a cat whose independence aligns with your routine.

👉 Our Best Tip? Focus less on looks and more on compatibility. The right cat isn’t just one you adopt — it’s one who truly belongs in your life and your household.

Feline Connection – Why It Matters in Rescue🐾

One of the most overlooked – yet powerful – parts of feline rescue is the bond of connection. Cats are highly sensitive creatures who thrive on trust, safety, and relationships. In a rescue setting, that connection can mean the difference between a cat simply “existing” and a cat truly healing.

🐱Why Connection Matters

✅Emotional Healing: Many rescue cats arrive with histories of abandonment, trauma, or neglect. A consistent, gentle human connection helps them relearn trust and reduce stress.

✅Behavioural Progress: When cats feel secure, they begin to settle into the environment, engage and interact more positively, and show a reduction in stress behaviours such as over-grooming, hiding, or aggression. This stability can reduce the need for medication and helps them respond better to behavioural support plans, paving the way for long-term success and adoption readiness.

✅Adoption Success: Cats who learn to connect in rescue are more adaptable and confident, increasing their chances of thriving in their forever home.

🐈 Connection in Action

✅Respect Autonomy: The most powerful trust-builder is allowing cats to feel choice and control over interactions. Respecting their signals and boundaries reduces fear, prevents setbacks, and helps them develop confidence.
✅Sit, Don’t Force: Sitting quietly with a shy cat and letting them approach on their own terms shows them their boundaries are safe and valued.
✅Positive Associations: Using food rewards, play, and calm voices creates experiences that cats want to repeat.
✅Consistency is Key: Keeping handling approaches consistent across staff and volunteers ensures predictability and security.
✅ Honour Their Timeline: Connection unfolds in the cat’s timeframe, not ours. Patience honours their individuality and makes progress sustainable.

👉 At House of Purrs, we specialise in programs that support feline wellbeing, to help veterinary and rescue staff/volunteers create lasting connections. If your rescue or veterinary team needing more guidance, contact us today to discover how we can help🐾

✨ Multi-Cat Harmony: Keeping the Peace at Home ✨

Sharing your home with more than one cat can be deeply rewarding — but it can also come with challenges. 🐾 Tension, stress, and territorial disputes are common when cats don’t feel safe or understood.

💡 Key ways to create harmony in a multi-cat household:
✔️ Space & Territory → Provide vertical areas (cat trees, shelves) and safe hideouts so each cat feels secure.
✔️ Resources → Follow the “1 per cat + 1” rule for litter boxes, food bowls, and water stations to prevent competition.
✔️ Routine → Cats thrive on predictability. Feeding, play, and quiet times at consistent intervals reduce stress.
✔️ Play & Enrichment → Daily interactive play helps release energy and mimic hunting, easing frustration and preventing redirected aggression.
✔️ Scent & Social Bonds → Encourage positive scent-sharing (bedding swaps, group grooming opportunities) to build trust between cats.

Remember: Cats don’t always naturally “just get along.” Peaceful cohabitation takes patience, structure, and understanding of feline behaviour. 🌿

👉 Struggling with conflict in your home? Contact us today to learn more about our Multi-Cat Harmony Program, designed to diagnose root causes and create lasting peace for you and your cats.

🐈‍⬛ Why Daily Enrichment Matters: Honouring Your Cat’s Natural Instincts: Prey Drive🐾

Even though our cats live mostly indoors, they still carry the same instincts as wild hunters. Their prey drive is more than “play” — it’s a core part of who they are.

When a cat’s need to stalk, chase, pounce, and capture is ignored, it can lead to:

⚡ Stress and anxiety
⚡ Unwanted behaviours (scratching, biting, vocalising)
⚡ Weight gain and poor physical health
⚡ Reduced overall wellbeing

✨ The Role of Enrichment
Daily enrichment isn’t optional — it’s essential part of their day. By mimicking hunting behaviours through play and environment design, you’re giving your cat an outlet to exercise these natural instincts.⬇️

✅ Interactive play with feather wands or mice toys = stalking and chasing.
✅ Puzzle feeders = problem-solving and “working” for food.
✅ Climbing & scratching posts = territory exploration and claw maintenance.
✅ Scheduled play times at dawn/dusk = tapping into natural hunting rhythms.

🎉 The Payoff
Cats who have their prey drive satisfied are:

💖 Calmer and more affectionate
🏃‍♂️ Fitter and healthier
🧠 Mentally stimulated and less prone to stress behaviours

👉 Supporting your cat’s natural instincts every single day is one of the most powerful ways to create a happy, harmonious household - So entice their prey drive through daily play today - Follow us for more ideas or contact us for a FREE enrichment home setup guide.

✨ Why Cats Need Routine ✨
Cats aren’t fans of surprises. Their world feels safest when life is predictable — same feeding times, same sleeping spots, same familiar sounds. 🐱💛

A routine helps cats:

✔️ Reduce stress and anxiety
✔️ Feel secure in their environment
✔️ Avoid behavioural issues like over-grooming, spraying, or litter box problems
✔️ Thrive in multi-cat homes where structure creates harmony

And here’s the funny part: your cat probably knows your routine better than you do.

They notice when you wake up, when you make coffee, when you get home from work… and especially when it’s dinner time. 😹 Their internal clock is sharper than ours, and they’ll remind you if you’re even five minutes late!

👉 Tip: Build little rituals with your cat. Feed at the same times, play daily at set intervals, and keep their environment stable. These predictable rhythms reassure your cat, strengthens your bond and reduces stress related behaviours.

Because when cats know what to expect, they can relax, trust, and just be their wonderful, quirky selves. 🐾✨

🐾 How Well Do You Really Know Your Cat? 🐾
Think you’ve got your feline friend all figured out? 😸
Test your cat knowledge with these quick questions:
1️⃣ Can you name your cat’s three favourite nap spots?
2️⃣ Do you know the real reason they blink slowly at you?
3️⃣ Can you tell the difference between their “feed me” meow and their “play with me” meow?
4️⃣ Do you know the signs your cat is stressed—before they show it in big ways?
✔️ The more you know, the happier (and healthier!) your cat will be.
At House of Purrs, we help you understand your cat’s behaviour so you can strengthen your bond and prevent stress-related issues before they even start.
💬 Tell us in the comments—what’s ONE thing your cat does that you still can’t figure out?

There is a lot of benefits of Catnip for Kittens🌿

Our favourite would have to be the joys of watching them have the confidence to explore NEW toys and items within their environment without fear..

This is especially beneficial for your shyer and more cautious kittens adjusting to new stimuli..We used some of our Catnip Play Spray with Mumma Lily’s kittens today who are on the shyer side..And it was a success ✅

They enjoyed and explored everything NEW within their enclosure with ease..Such a special little moment💕🐱🐾
