Hey guys! Unfortunately this gorgeous pup lost his human and needs a place to go. His human grandma says he has a history of being good with other dogs and kids (but can be a bulldozer).

He needs manners due to being too excited to see and meet everyone. As most probably know I have a bit of a weakness for any dog with a square head. Due to this and the rescue situation being what it is I am giving a FREE package to whoever gives him a home. This should help with introducing him into the home and working on helping him settle in easier.

To get the package you will either need to be located from Edmond to Moore or willing to travel to that area.

With all the cute faces, heartbreaking stories and even more with an unknown past it can be hard to find the perfect match for your family. Add in the societal shame when you return a dog that doesn’t fit, the potential harm to children and furry family members, the pressure can be very overwhelming. That’s why I have created this program. With my training, experience in evaluating dogs in shelters and seeing what is and isn’t a good fit in all different types of homes, I hope to help make not only truly forever homes but happy forever homes. All options are mix and match to help set everyone up for the best success while keeping to your budget.

EVALUATION OPTIONS (Required for all other add on options):

Virtual evaluation-$50
In this option we will virtually talk through what your home is like and what your goals would be for the pup. After that I will give you physical and behavioral traits to look for in a pup.

In person evaluation-30 min -$100
This will allow me to physically evaluate current pets temperament while also getting their past behavior history and your goals for a future pup.

OTHER ADD ON OPTIONS:

Online Adoptable Options of shelter dogs available with three possible options- $50
This is an add on for the evaluation options where not only will I tell you what to look for but I will give you three options that fit that criteria. This is based solely on what is on their profile and what volunteers/fosters say about them.

In person adoptable options is $100 per site visit.
Whether you choose to find options matching the recommendations I provided or you request I search for options ($50 fee listed above) after having a list of three possible options this one goes one step further. I will meet and evaluate the dog in person for visible personality traits, human sociability, and, if the rescues program allows, also look for sociability in other dogs, animals and kids.

Meet and home integrate- $100
After picking a pup for your home, this add on will have me there to set up a plan and start the process of easing the pup into your home.

Interested in more information? Contact me today! I look forward to helping you find your perfect match!

I’m so proud of how far this family has come! Gerome was so fearful when we first met he would have nothing to do with me being allowed to pet him. Now he demands for me to hold and scratch him the entire session (or at least while the humans are talking). That’s not even mentioning all the obedience work, and every day bond building his owners have put into him.

* I am going to try my best to start posting proud moments with my clients again.

Hey guys ! Do you have one of the breeds listed? Is your pup super friendly with people to the point they drag you on the leash to people and/or bark at them? I’m looking for 3 either pure bred or mixed Bully Breed pups that are the breeds listed in the graphic for a video! In return I will give the owners of the breeds 30 minutes of free training with me. This will of course not count time to take the videos.

Needs to be:
50-95lbs
Short hair bully breed of one the types listed
In Edmond or willing to meet in Edmond
Truly friendly just “rude”
Willing to sign over rights to videos taken

We had a fascinating zoom meeting with OKC Animal Welfare, Common Bonds Oklahoma and Best Friends Animal Society about the sicknesses in the Metro area, yesterday. With our new knowledge also from the ASPCA, we now have a better understanding of what's been going around.

Dogs positive for canine flu (H3N2) may be contagious for 21 days and may not always show symptoms during the incubation period. Vaccines may not prevent infection and we recommend speaking with your veterinarian as the shots on the market need to be done as a series (like your common puppy vaccines).

With this in mind, please keep all animals at home. Do not make unnecessary trips with your critters; avoiding dog parks, dog groomers, boarding facilities, etc. Even if you elect to do outside activities with your dogs, these diseases are transmitted through droplets or aerosols containing respiratory secretions from coughing, sneezing and even barking. Make sure to keep homes clean and wash food/water bowls regularly. The Canine Flu is scary but not as deadly as Strep Zoo (a bacterial disease with zero prevention that can lead to a unpleasant passing to rainbow bridge.)

We appreciate the transparency of neighboring animal welfare agencies. We are grateful that our dogs and puppies continue to remain healthy and unexposed thanks to emergency policies set. We are all in this together, Oklahoma and it will take a community to save the lives of many!

MYTHBUSTING MONDAY: It's not dominance. Seriously, it's not. There is no dominant breed. You don't have a dominant dog. Your dog's behavior is not a "dominance thing."

Now, I realize those statements might be causing some hardcore cognitive dissonance right now. Because from the moment you even became aware of dogs, you have been told that dogs are pack animals and a bunch of dominance stuff based on that assumption.

From the Merck Veterinary Manual:

"The dog’s social structure has been referred to as a pack hierarchy, but this does not accurately or entirely describe the relationship of dogs with other dogs or with people."

"The term dominance...is a relative term established by the value of the resource to each individual and the cumulative effects of learning."

For example, Animal A might challenge Animal B for a mate. Animal B might defer. But does that make Animal A the dominant animal?

What if Animal B waits until Animal A is distracted and mates with that female at another time? Is dominance even relevant at this point? I would argue that learning is far more pertinent than hierarchy.

The problem is that people tend to think of hierarchies in dogs just like hierarchies in humans. Governments, militaries, churches, schools, corporations all have linear hierarchical structures.

However, when it comes to dogs, it's not that simple.

"Hierarchy in dogs is neither static nor linear, because the motivation to obtain and retain a specific resource, together with previous learning, defines the relationship between two individuals for each encounter."

In other words, if you push me out of the way to get the last chocolate truffle, and I walk away...but I don't actually like chocolate truffles (I don't), you're not actually establishing dominance. I didn't want the resource, anyway. Or maybe I learned that, by walking away, I will be given the key to the room full of caramels. Mmmmm. Caramels.

What about aggression?

"A 'dominant' animal is not the one engaged in the most fighting and combat. Most high-ranking animals seldom have to contest their right of access to a resource. Instead, high-ranking animals are usually better identified by the character and frequency of deferential behaviors exhibited by others in their social group and by their ability to respond appropriately to a variety of social and environmental circumstances."

So, it is not the "dominant" dog who growls over a bone or fights with other dogs at the dog park. When your dogs are fighting at home, identifying the alpha is about as productive as a snipe hunt.

Why does it matter? Because if you are told that your dog's behavior is the result of dominance, the solution is almost always some form of rank reduction. Everything from making the dog sit for every bit of affection to methods that are too disturbing to detail. And it's all called "leadership."

Trying to change a dog's rank in an imaginary hierarchy only serves to delay behavior modification. In many cases, it makes the situation much worse.

If we want to change behavior, we need to explore the dog's health, environment, and learning history, as well as identify triggers and consequences for the behavior. From there, we can develop a complete plan that addresses the needs of the individual dog, reducing their stress, increasing tolerance, and reinforcing desirable responses.

Next time someone tells you that if your dog jumps, pulls on the leash, leans on you, sits on your foot, sleeps on top of the couch, barks, mounts/humps, doesn't listen, or anything else that isn't obedience or cowering in the corner, it's dominance, what they're really saying is that they don't understand dog behavior and are probably not someone you want to take advice from....let alone pay for that advice!

Relax. It's not dominance. Now we've got that out of the way, let's focus on changing behavior!

Love a rescue dog but hate the name? No worries!! You can immediately rename them! Dog don’t have an emotional attachment to their names like humans do and most rescue dogs don’t even understand the name given to them.

The names in the graphic are not only names I call my dog but names he responds to. Don’t let a name keep you from a dog!

How well do you know breeds. ANSWER!

B! Bull Mastiffs are Bull breeds which carry a dog intolerant nature genetically. Does this mean your Bullmastiff HAS to be intolerant of dogs? NOPE. Kim Brophey puts it perfectly in her LEGS model.

All of things go into who a dog is but you should never discredit one of these things while choosing a dog! For example not all huskies have prey drive but that doesn’t mean you should expect the one you get to be the exception. Always plan for the normal for the breed.
