Who is invited to Northcoast Agility and Dog Training?

EVERYONE!

Well, while some people may think it goes without saying that everyone should feel welcome and Dog sports, I want to be really clear that this space is one in which there is racial inclusion, q***r inclusion, inclusion of those with different abilities and disabilities, and so on. You get to show up as the full human being that you are.

I want to be explicit about this because I know that a lot of people cannot assume that the spaces that they are entering into will be welcoming. This one is. if you have any questions about it, please let me know.

Let’s talk Agility! What it is and what you and your dog can get from it.

Agility is this amazing game that you play with a dog that involves you and the dog as a team navigating a course that includes jumps, tunnels, weave poles and Other things called contact equipment A-Frame, Dog walk, teeter totter, and a pause table).

Agility is an amazing team sport where you and your dog learn to communicate and hopefully move smoothly around the course. Even if you never want to compete, Agility is an amazing confidence builder for your dogs and a lovely way to build teamwork and connection.

Agility should be fun, engaging, and overall positive. That doesn’t mean you may not have feelings at some point because things aren’t going as you want, or you might feel frustrated if you think your dog should know something, but they can’t perform it. Those seem to be part of being a human. However , when we engage our dogs in Agility, the goal is enthusiasm and happy engagement. So a ton of what we do in Agility is reward our dogs. That means we find out what is rewarding to them, or multiple things that are rewarding to them, and we use those rewards and play to communicate with our dog what we want. They are also going to communicate back with us! And that is the joy of Agility.

My goal is always to build relationships between humans and their dogs and provide a space where you both can grow. So we work on clear communication and happy and fun engagement. Hope to see you out there!

Camping info -

Hey folks, so here’s a little bit more information on the camping situation. If you want to dry camp near the arena, instead of near the official RV park on the property. You still want to go through the same phone number so they can keep track. I believe they have the option where you have water hook ups over near the arena. But you would not have electricity. There is a dump station on the property. So the phone number to call is:

707-499-6187

Let us know if you get stuck ;)

Hello everyone - welcome to my page on my dog training and agility event hosting services. I am a dog trainer (both pet skills and agility) that lives on the North coast of Humboldt County, CA. I both do private lessons as well as some group lessons. Lessons can occur at my house, or at yours!

I also am Co-Chairing and serving as Secretary for the first ever UKI Agility trial, Run in the Redwoods, that will be held at Redwood Acres in Eureka, California on July 29th and 30th.

And runs are only $14 per run. So even if you aren't ready for a full competition experience, or just want to try out a new venue, this is a great way to do it!
