Despite Louisa, she's still moving forward. She's letting me pet her while she eats. She will USUALLY come when called. She runs to the front yard ( best off limits place ever!!!) with the pack. Typically she will interact with the other dogs briefly before moving away to observe. Maybe she was a journalist in her prior life.

LOUISA CATALINA.

We had a couple great names suggested. But the Saint loved Louisa.
That's all I needed.
If you are wondering about the crate, Louisa is not a breeder dog. She was loved and handled and cared for. She didn't spend her life in a crate. However I have found that sometimes a new environment and other dogs can be so overstimulating for a new dog. I like to offer a place of safety.

Louisa went in laid down and then got up and never went back. It's still out but I think we're done. She chose a dog bed. She's got a pretty collar.
She's settling in. ❤️

I don't know if she has a summer cut or she is one of those long hairs only on her ears. I'm confused. Why would she get groomed but no dental care
She's pretty solid but appropriately.
I always feel like I have to beef up my breeder girls.

Here's a little unedited afternoon romp in the front yard. Poor Gwennie gets so overstimulated she doesn't know where to run. But she's so much better than she was!

Ohh. Gwennie. We have crossed a bridge. Her worst habit has been first thing in the morning I get up and make tea, and she pees in the dining room/hallway. So many times I've had a close call. I've actually fallen several times. I have tile floors. Yesterday she got me again. So. No access to the front until I have the dog door open. I offered her the front yard today and that scared her. But I kept telling her to go to the back yard. AND SHE DID!! Ok it's only once. But she's smart. I'm just so so glad she didn't pee on the bed to show me who's boss! Enjoy her enjoying a collagen stick. (P S. I'm fine. Bruised not broken 😁)

Here is an illustration of Gwen's fear. She wants that ear so bad. But. She is so anxious. She can't take her eyes off me. My baby girl is expecting punishment or something. I put the phone down and kinda turned my back to her and she did chew for a bit. However. She's chewing on the ears more and more. Which is progress. We are on the "Baby Steps" part. Which I will gladly take!!!

Normally I might not post this. But I had to. I was bringing in groceries before the big storm( it's here) and I let her out. Little brat made a beeline for the fence. I thought I was ready. I am not fast enough anymore 😞 However. She crawled back into the yard before I could get there!! My favorite was the little rebellion at the end when she turned to stay out She will try me. Fun and games with Gwen ❤️

The grandogs are here for a few days. Wednesday is tiny. Poppy and Wednesday are besties. Poppy is so gentle with her.

I've had the grand dogs this weekend. 3 littles. I was a little worried how this would work. They figured it out 😄

Crazy dog time!!! She's doing great! We're working hard on housebreaking and basic commands. Sigh. She's got the brain of a puppy 😭😜

Here's a little Hump Day happiness. These two stayed quietly in their kennel for two hours after breakfast while I battled a migraine. They are so sweet. They are letting all that energy out! They are still searching for their furever home.

We have a water dog!!!

Buffy - Feral Dachshund Mix

The day after Thanksgiving 2019, SCDR (Dachshund Rescue) was asked by a local shelter to take a scared doxie mix. They felt to make progress she needed to be in a foster home.

Dachshund are often terrified in the shelter, so we had no qualms about saying yes.

When we got the dog, now named Buffy, home, it was clear she was a case all by herself. Her fear had nothing to do with the shelter. She was absolutely feral. Given a chance to go outside and all she wanted to do was run and hide. She went into overdrive flight or fight mode. Being outside escalated her fears.

We moved Buffy to a special foster home to see if we could turn her into an adoptable dog. This is her journey. It will be filled with milestones and forward leaps and backward steps. We hope at the end of this journey that Buffy can get a loving home.
