Mangateparu Epke (8 wks 2 days at the time) unfortunatly lost his mum last week and luckily got on the bottle straight away. He has now outgrown his lamb cover and settling in our new routine, I call him and he comes running over for a feed.

Wapwaps at it again, this time triplets! Last season she had 2 sets of twins (05/05/22 & 27/10/22) and on Wednesday she had her triplets 2 boys and a girl. That makes 7 lambs in 546 days, were she would have been roughly 456 days pregnant and only 90 days not! Wapwaps had 3 ewes and 4 rams in total (2 Purebreds and 5 F1).

All lambs were too eager to come out so had to assist birthing them, they seemed to be all half stacked on top of eachother. It started with 1 leg and after some navigating found the other one but turned out to be a sibling lamb so had to push the sibling back to birth the first lamb (girl), second lamb was straight forward but last lamb was really sideways and also presented with 1 leg while other leg was fully tucked-in! Finally after trying to correct position had to ring Hubby to give me a hand, he managed to flip the lamb and get it safely out. Lambs (one got some start-up support on bottle) and Wapwaps are doing great.

Recipient sheep have all lambed, even a surprise lamb as mum was labeled empty after scanning. 3 recipient ewes and 5 ewe lambs, unfortunatly 1 didn't make it.

Ewes and ram waiting for pregnancy scanning and ram will be brucellosis tested while we have the vets come out anyway. Bloods will also be used to analyse the trace elements of the flock, so to get a follow-up on last year bloodresults and actions taken back than (Iodine, copper, cobalt and selenium are our focus elements to monitor). Out of the 10 ewes, 4 received embryos (7 in total by Yew Tree Bertie UK) 2 have not held resulting in a loss of 3 embryos in total. 4 ewes pregnant with F1/F2 / PB lamb(s) sired by our own ram Mangateparu Thom, and 1 PB ewe in-lamb with Heartland Devontea. Lasty 1 hogget empty but she can grow a bit more and try next season. Overall a bit dissappointed my favourite donor ewe is empty but can look forward to establishing new bloodlines in my flock to keep my flock as closed breeding. Bring on July and August.....

Some previous sold F1 ewes and a mate came back for ram mating service, Mangateparu Thom hasn't left their side since they arrived yesterday morning. Mangateparu Thom didn't even take the time to come in for some meal this morning either so went out for a morning stroll to check them all.

Back from "European winter holiday" and coming back to New Zealand green pastures, unknown for this time of year! Sheep are over the wet weather and isn't doing any favours to their hooves lately but at least when it's dry there is fresh grass to munch on. Everything has its up and down sides.

Worked out this morning my 2023 breeding plan using a inbreeding calculator (http://www.nabssar.org/coi_calculator/) to find out how I can run all the sheep in 1 flock with using only 1 ram. on the property instead of 3 purebreds atm. So after along slog of filling in all the bloodline generations I have found the solution which will result in 0% inbreeding across the whole flock. But in saying so, I'll have to sell my rams and my F1 ewes and F2 rams/wethers to make it all work.
