These posts are never easy, but this one takes the cake. It’s taken me a while to even be able to go through pictures without breaking down.
The last of my little golden girls crew has crossed the Rainbow Bridge a week and a half ago. Mallory- I am going to miss you so much. She would greet me every time with her “woo woos,” gave stupid little tippy tappy feets when she would get impatient, and absolutely loved her people. I love you, Mal- your gal pals Daisy, Doris, and Munchie are all waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge.
This job is not all sunshine, rainbows, and playing with dogs. It’s physically and emotionally taxing- and takes its toll. Caring deeply for what you do is a great feeling, but man does it come with some really sh*tty ones, too. We take this seriously because it IS serious. This isn’t just walking dogs- these are people’s lives we become a part of and we will never take the privilege of being allowed in those lives for granted.
Be kind and patient to the people who truly care for your animals. We love them almost, as much as you do, and will always put them first; paperwork, emails, etc will always come second. Keep posts like this in mind the next time: your vet might be a little late, or your dog walker didn’t email you back right away, or the trainer took 2 days to call you back. You never know what the human who is caring for your animals is going through because that’s what humans do- go through things. And I don’t know about you, but I want a HUMAN caring for my animals, flaws and all, not a robotic contractor looking to make money. Just some food for thought.
