Right I've not done this in a long time but so much is going on I need to do this and raise awareness.
Welcome to the Cats Trust Catlog.
Hey guys, welcome to the best Cat and Wildlife chat group in the uk. Feel free to talk about any concerns or issues on here.
As summer 2023 comes in at its halfway point, rescues are overladened with abandoned and signed over cats and kittens, since the lockdowns we have seen a steady influx however this year that has exploded and the numbers are incomparable to the years previous. I just want to make people aware this is why it's so difficult to rehome your pets at the moment and why I've re set open my rehoming hub to ease this load on the rescues.
Many rescues are so overpopulated that they can not help any more legally, and independent Rescuers and volunteers such as myself are brought into it. Please think when rehoming and though rescues will help, it may be an idea for you to become what we call a Foster carer until we can help you rehome your cat. However that still leave a financial burden on you, again I will chat about this as we go on I just want to give a basic overview to the issues first.
So being a independent volunteer means your not involved in a rescuer and all the pets care and food comes out of your own pocket, this is not a cheap activity however I'll go into this a little later on. I don't want to touch on finances just yet but I will say the costs involved aren't cheap but there is organisations out there willing to help.
As humans we need to take 100% of the responsibility for this, we. In lockdown, had the wisdom oh we will get a cat, a dog, a rabbit and now as life as kinda returned back to a normality, these are now unwanted, unneutered and uncared for burden for people, it's exactly what we all warned people at the time would happen as happened. Unfortunately this has then come back on us to pick up the pieces and try to help these animals. It's absolutely disgusting and people who have done this should be ashamed of themselves. However, I have the feeling these people couldn't give a s**t to what I am saying and think I am a dick-head or a goody goody, anyone who knows me knows differently. Anyway I digress, we need to help these innocent animals but how? This is something I'm hoping to speak to a expert and have a session where we can just rhrow some ideas out there, watch Cats Trust for further information on this idea, one of my ideas is a Foster to adopt scheme, again I will go further into this maybe on my next blog.
This blog I really want to go into finances and look at ways we can help or guide you to get help, with prices rising pet food and pet care is a massive concern, the only store that seems to help the public is Farmfoods and no this is not sponsored by them but there 3 boxes of whiskas for £30 is a massive help for me. The biscuits being 2 for 10 pounds for 2kgs is also a god send, but we need more. What if your on a tight budget?
Food banks ran by Trussell Trust as well ss by churches and local communities and other charities such as Whitefeather FoodBooth will always be able to help as well as pet food banks such as Pet foodbank service, P.E.T Foodbank Deeside and for our locals the Yorkshire Pet Foodbank. Don't let pride stand in your way also look at brands like Ruscoes (tesco) Aldi own cat food and tesco own brand for cheap alternatives, most of these are made in same factories as the big brands but just have different packaging. Also ask us if we are aware of any good deals. We will always be more then happy to help.
Going back to ideas on how to ease the burden on the rescues, have you any ideas? Comment on below if you have. The best ones will be used in our next blog.
So finally I wanna touch upon a so called great scheme by Cats Protection and my disappointment in it, so I have took a stray in the beautiful Rio (was Oreo) gorgeous friendly happy nature however he was unneutered and a very vocal cat, so I contacted CP and at first they weren't gunna give me a voucher as he was a TNR and being a competituve rescue, yes that their words. When I said I was keeping him then, he qualified for the voucher so I thought brilliant I just have to pay a tenner to them and that's it sorted, no so untrue and misleading. Firstly finding a vets that's do it vets4pets rightly don't do it, waste hard beginning anyway I settled with my local vets Grange Vets, excellent vets and have helped me so much in the past however, told them had the voucher, no issue and when went to get Rio booked in for today was told I'd be paying £29.20 & a lady next to me for a female cat had to pay nearly £70, so where is this £10 fee cost? I'm sorry but in future I will speak directly to a vets and see if we can set up a stray neuter scheme as we had in past with Premier Vets who helped us massively in the past when working within a 3rd party rescue organisation with a valued friend Kelly. I'm not bothered about the extra costs but this scheme needs to be explained better and if you say your gunna offer help to me via a email as a voluntary rescuer, then stand by what you say.
Anyways, for now I geelong this is right point to end this blog and I will miaow ya later
