In case some of you didn't know, in addition to running my own dog training business, I also work for an amazing non-profit called Pets for Vets.

The program matches Veterans with shelter and rescue animals to create a wonderful life long super bond.
It has been such a rewarding experience for me and I can't believe they're already celebrating 15 years!

The Denver-based nonprofit founder has always had a passion for dogs and veterans, and now she helps veterans get a therapy dog of their own. FOX31's Rachel Saurer asked Pets for Vets about the process.

Some wonderful tips for building a reliable recall!

Recall is one of the first behaviors I go over in my classes because to me, it's the most important. With hard work and consistency, you can really build a reliable cue.

You put so much effort into teaching your dog to come. Now how do you protect that very valuable cue? With the rules of recall!

A tip for those of you out there training your dogs: You don't have to train your dogs for hours a day to see results. Even 5-10 minutes of consistent training everyday can make a huge difference in your dogs behavior. 🙂

With the help of Kennebunk dog trainer Melissa McCue-McGrath, six local dogs and their owners are training to sniff out the spotted lanternfly, an invasive pest currently plaguing plants and trees in 17 states.

Currently in North Carolina for the IAABC Conference with Pets for Vets.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of visiting the ASPCA BCR and it was a wonderful experience. The team there works to rehabilitate fearful dogs that come from various cruelty cases, hoarding situations, puppy mills and stressful shelter settings.

Seeing the crew there work together as a team to mindfully interact with the dogs and provide them with the enrichment and care they need was truly eye opening.

One of Cash's favorite things to do is chase around his flirt pole!

If you've never heard of a flirt pole, it's like a cat teaser but for dogs. It helps give an outlet to dogs that like to chase things and Cash loves to chase so this helps him do it safely.
I've also paired this game with an "out" and "wait" cue to keep him from getting too overstimulated!

After 5 minutes, Cash is wiped and he's got a mix of both physical and mental exercise. 😀

Today we celebrated Barnaby's 1st birthday! We've been working with him for the past few weeks and he's been doing great so today we decided to celebrate! He had some pumpkin puree with some whipped cream and got to play with some new toys. ❤️❤️❤️

Something as simple as letting your dog sniff on their walk can be so incredibly enriching for them.
A few minutes of sniffing can lower your dog's heart rate, increase dopamine and tire them right out.

Next time you bring your dog out, take them to a nice spot and let them sniff to their heart's content!!

Today we're featuring the gorgeous, Phoebe!! Phoebe has made huge progress over the past few weeks. She's learning to settle when guests come to the door andd she's adjusting to life around her two new baby sisters. She has honestly been so much fun to train with and I'm so proud of her and her pet parents for putting in work!!

Happy Valentine's Day! ❤️🌹💋 Because it's Valentine's Day, we're featuring two pups!

On the left we have Watson with his mom. Watson chose to dress up like a Babushka or perhaps he's taking a ride in his convertible later. 🏎
Either way, he's looking pretty darn cute. 🥰

On the right we have Paloma who just moments before this, flung a paper towel covered in p**p all over the studio. It was quite an event. We still adore her though and she posed great for her photo! 💕

The gorgeous Evie stopped into the studio the other day! We worked on having her engage with her mom instead of reacting to different triggers and she did very well. I've seen so much progress in her lately! Excited to see how she does over the next few weeks.

Here's Dexter! This was taken during his second class with me and he surprised all of us with how well he did! He's learning to build some in-home boundaries, impulse control and how to get along with his beagle brother. 🤣 He really is such a smart guy and he's improved so much. I can't wait to see how he does.
