Chipmunk desperately needs a foster home or a home to call his own. He is an extremely friendly dog who loves everybody he meets. He has gotten much better walking on a leash. He has been a good houseguest. He has not caused any kind of destruction. He is a really good boy who does not deserve to be dumped and have to live in a barn, or an overcrowded foster home. We are truly doing the best we can for him, but I know someone out there can do better. Please give this dog a chance, or at least give him a share. Every share helps get him noticed and it only takes one person to help him.

Did you know that it’s free to foster? Everything is provided to you and all you do is provide a room and some love. Have you ever heard the term foster fail? It means that you fostered a dog and fell in Love with it and adopted it yourself.

I bet if you foster this dog, you may fail him from finding another home because he will stay with you.

Oh, chipmunk is desperately looking for a new foster house or a new human to call his own.

Every day he is getting a little better, and a little better, which makes me feel like he was very un socialized. But that does not hold him back from being extremely people friendly. I just do not think he was exposed to a lot. Can you give this guy a chance? He is not getting the attention. He deserves in my house. He is the fifth dog under my roof (omg) and I have been extremely busy and life lately. I am doing three sets of crate and rotate right now. If you were considering this guy, do not hesitate.
familiar heart is covering this guy and you will go through them to foster or adopt.

Hi!
They have been calling me Chipmunk. 🐿️ there is a story to that but I don’t understand FB jokes. I am a young adult who got dumped at a horse barn in Philadelphia about a month ago. I had lived inside with a family and for some reason they ditched me and I have been living in a barn for about a month. It was pretty scary at first because those were some big dogs next-door. But I got used to it and started to really enjoy the human foot traffic and attention. They feed me great food, and I always have water. I get to go on walks, and I get lots of pets. But it’s not a home.
I really like kids
I know some basic commands
I jump a little bit, but I know better, and if you tell me not to I won’t .
I am a little bit strong on a leash, but I’ve been getting better every day.
Yesterday they put me in a car and took me to a place , I went to sleep, and when I woke up, I wasn’t feeling so good. But I was happy to be around all the people.
I actually got to go in a house last night. I think she felt bad for me. I did really great last night. I don’t mind seeing the other animals walk past but Hooman is keeping a few barriers between us.
The kid threw me a lot of cookies last night, which was awesome, I like her.
The hoomans left last night for a couple hours and I handled it. I don’t have separation anxiety or anything.
I wait to go p*e till we are outside.
Hooman said that this is not a permanent situation. And they are looking really hard to find me a perfect home.
I really am a good boy, and I’m trying to show that to everybody. Life has turned upside down a few times but I am still a really happy guy. Do you have room in your home for me?

I can also go to a foster home that might be able to give me more space and time. Fostering is free and the rescue covers the cost. I basically just need a room and some understanding and attention. I know there are a lot of homeless pitties right now, but I promise I’ll be good, and I’m definitely worth it.

He made some friends at Emancipet. They figured out pretty quickly that he was a sweet heart so he came out unmuzzled. He proved he is a great traveler, so no muzzle in the car. He is now neutered, vaccinated, Microchiped and has a negative heartworm test.

He did not go back in the barn. He is under my roof. But this is not an ideal situation. Not at all. He is basically in a kennel. But it’s clean and he is warm and he will get lots of attention. Now that he is living inside, I will be able to get to know him a lot better. Within a few days, I will know if he is housebroken and how he does living with a kid and other animals under the roof. I will know if he has barking fits and how he does when we leave him alone.

Please share him so he can find either a better foster situation or a forever home. He is currently living in northwest Philadelphia.

Apply to foster or adopt through Familiar Hearts Animal Society who covered all of his vet work and will be making sure he ends up in the right home.

It’s nut 🥜 cut day! Chipmunk is off to get the full works thanks to Familiar Hearts Animal Society! He rode great in the car and fell asleep within minutes. He was great walking into the clinic. He was awesome hanging out in a waiting room with other dogs and caged cats. He was curious but showed no signs of aggression. His weigh in was way more than I expected!

Chipmunk was so friendly to everybody he met. He is a really nice sweet dog and he has really come out of his shell that he was in the first few days. He has been living in the barn, but he will come inside tonight. I set him up a temporary situation in my living room that is away from my other animals. He will be able to recover and sleep well tonight in a warm and clean environment. But this is going to be very temporary and he still really needs to find a spot.

Why the muzzle? I’ll say it again for the people in the back. WHY NOT? I don’t know this dog well. The vets don’t know this dog at all. I didn’t know how he would act in the waiting room (a+). I don’t want the techs and vets to have any nerves handling him because that will just pass off to him. It does not hurt him. It made people create some extra space between us which I love the muzzle for, because I don’t know this dog well enough. Again, WHY NOT? He is wearing a martingale collar. He’s wearing a harness. Those are pieces of equipment. A muzzle is just a piece of equipment. Better safe than sorry and thanks to Reed, I will always be aware of the chances of dogs eating my car while I’m driving.

On Monday, a couple guys showed up at the farm with this dog and said he was loose and they found him and could not keep him. Of course my best friend said “we will take it, Kate will know what to do” and put him in a stall. I spread the word about a found dog that reached a lot of people, but nobody came to claim him. I will never be a human that takes a dog to ACCT. I know how full the rescues are. I know how thin everybody has stretched, including me, but this dog ended up with me for a reason. My house is completely full, but this guy will have decent accommodations until I can find something else. Of course, he is unaltered. But say hi to chipmunk everybody. I guess welcome to Kates fosters chipmunk.

Yesterday was finally NO MORE NUTS DAY! I feel like we have been waiting for this forever

Reed has been my foster dog since February. It took a while to get him in good condition. He was 38 pounds coming out of ACCT. He weighed in at 80 pounds today. The perfect weight and my long-term goal. He could probably go without the muzzle in the car now, but hey, why not🤷🏼‍♀️ I look bad ass driving around with Reed Lecter in the back.

After he was in good enough shape, we (me and Pennsylvania animal alliance) really started checking out his heart murmur. We had an appointment at the vet who recommended we go to a canine cardiologists. We had to wait months for the appointment. But it came and we got some answers and put him on a medication to keep his heart going. I talked to the vet about him having neuter surgery with his heart murmur, and he said it could go either way, weigh the risks. Any animal has a risk going under anesthesia. Maybe he had a little bit more risk, but if he survived through everything he has been through, God had a plan for him . And that plan did not include dying on the table. I thought the risk of being less adoptable, outweighed the risk of God’s plan.
It seems like the Vet staff fell in love with him. The awesome vet tech said they would adopt him about 5 times if they didn’t have a bunch of dachshunds. When the vet called with the good news that he made it, she also said how goofy he is. I’ve always called him a goober.
So Reed really gets a chance at a new life today. I am hoping that it will help suppress a little bit of his arousal. He gets so excited to meet anybody or anything. But is that such a bad thing? I would give almost anything to be as happy as this dog is even after what he has been through.
Let’s chat about the heart murmur. It’s NOT a low-grade murmur. It is congenital. He was born with it and there is no surgery to fix it. He is now on a beta blocker, which might help or may not. That’s not my hands. That’s the big man’s decision . But here is my personal take and experience. Very recently I decided to euthanize my childhood horse that I had for 24 years. He was 31 years old. He outlived most of the horses I have had, and I have had a lot of horses. I’ll give you one guess on the condition my horse had.

Did you guess heart murmur? Because that’s what my 31 year old horse had. He never got beta blockers, because to medicate a horse with that medication, you would need an obscene amount of drugs. Heart failure took my boy, but God’s plan did not include an early death. That horse lived out of spite in retirement, eating a hole in my pocket, but remaining my best friend for his 10 year retirement. I recognized the signs of heart failure, his body was shutting down quickly, so I made the right choice, but the hard choice to euthanize my best friend of 24 years a day too soon versa a day too late. He got to go out pain-free on a nice sunny day in a grassy spot he loved, after spending the entire morning with his longtime girlfriends.

I also had a horse named after me by the vet that bred her, drop dead at 8 months old. Because I was working for a vet and I had done quite a few necropsys before this, we went scouting for what happened. She had a hole in her gut that poisoned her. That was God’s plan for Sweet Katie Brown.

Another broodmare, who I had foaled out five times went into labor right around my 28th birthday. Doc named this one Kate’s 28. I immediately knew something was wrong when she went into full-blown labor. I called Doc, but he pretty much said God has a plan. The vet knew what was happening. At that point I was more worried about saving the broodmare than the baby. We helped and got Kate out. Kate never took a breath. Kate was a full term stillborn. I left Kate with her mom in the stall and me and mama morned that baby all night. But she was never supposed to live.

So what does this have to do with Reed? Life can be given or taken at any moment. Reed might die from his heart murmur, but he also my die from old age. That’s not up to us. So if Reed has 10 years left, or one month left, he still remains the happiest animal I have ever had. He is sucking every ounce of happy that life can give him despite his past troubles. The heart murmur does not bother him or worry him one bit. It bothers humans, it worries humans. But his day to cross the rainbow bridge is in gods hands. And when it is his time, I know a lot of other fur friends will be waiting for him over the rainbow bridge so they can talk s**t about me🌈

These 4 kittens are in foster and are ready for their new home. They are spayed or neutered, have their vaccines, and are cute as can be. Remeber that adopting two kittens is usually recommended. You will actually have less trouble, not double the trouble. Reach out to Familiar Hearts Animal Society if you are interested.

Happy Saturday! Wish Reed luck!

10/08/2023

I know it’s been a while. Summer has been busy with TONS of dogs and horses. Reed is still my foster dude and he is still awesome and happy. I have never had a dog that was so happy to be at a vet office. The vet tech fell in love with him because he’s a mush.
He had blood work done to do the final check before surgery. No nuts surgery is scheduled for the end of the month.

I am a dog person. But I love all animals and this little pint sized girl is in need.

Laila is looking for a home !

She is 2 year old kitten who was abandoned by initial owner. We rescued her on the streets. She is in Lansdale, PA at the moment.

Laila has the following vaccinations:

-Rabies Feline
-FVRCP Vaccination Series
-FeLV/FIV/HW Test
-Tobramcyin Opthalmic Solution

If you’re looking for a little sweet fur ball to snuggle, here’s your girl.

Last week I was asked to go to one of the Philly public schools to talk about dog rescue. It was so nice to educate these kids on what the shelter and rescue world looks like, and rules around dogs (don’t approach strange dogs, don’t bother dogs when they are eating/ sleeping, don’t climb on dogs). The kids had wonderful questions and hopefully they all learned a little bit about our overpopulation of dogs.

Look who made it on TV! Smoke! He looks great and hopefull this tv spot gets him adopted and out of his kennel.

I wish she would’ve had one conversation with me before he left because the story is not quite correct. It was totally out of my hands that he got tagged and sent to this rescue from ACCT. I had been a temp foster for 2 weeks. I do want to rescue more dogs, that is true but I have resident dogs and cats. It was really the cats more than the dogs. He actually got comfortable with the dogs in my house and they could all pass each other with baby gates up with no problem. Cats, however, is a no go. I just want to be clear that I would never push a dog out of my house. Reed is my longest foster to date, and I don’t really know and end date for him. He potentially could end up in the hope program.

Check out this cutie that needs a home. Also check out allllll the HOPE Dogs. They live in a prison, and they would love to be bailed out. To be fair they did nothing wrong to get into prison, they are there for full on training with prisoners. This is a really cool program and these dogs come with more training the most rescues. They also come with training for the rest of their lives. Adopt a hope 🐕

From Luke's handler:

"Luke did the cutest and funniest thing that I have ever seen a dog do. The other day, I gave Luke a Milk Bone. He took it very gingerly from me, walked over to his crate, moved his blankets very gently with his paws, and put the Milk Bone underneath the blankets with his nose. He did this so slowly, almost like the Milk Bone was a very delicate egg he was hiding.

A few days later, we were outside in the exercise yard. I have him another Milk Bone and doesn't he do the exact same thing! He took the bone and hid it in the smallest amount of loose grass and dirt. He hid it so well that you would never find it unless you saw him bury it. I'm not sure if he would do this with car keys, but I hope not! Luke is such a gorgeous, loving dog.

Luke gets Gold Stars this week for sit, stay, and paw.

Luke is still frightened being around large groups of people, and he doesn't like it in his crate when I leave my cell. So we have those things to work on."

To apply to adopt Luke, go to https://www.hopedogs.org/adoption-application/?animal_name=Luke.
