What is canine rehabilitation?
It is based on similar principals to physio in humans, using modalities to improve functioning, decrease pain and increase fitness. It uses a combination of hands on treatment, including joint mobilisations and soft tissue therapy, and often includes a home exercise program.
Rehab can be beneficial to many dogs, especially those that have had orthopedic surgery, canine athletes and older patients/patients with chronic pain due to underlying disease.
Dr Kriszty is a fully qualified rehab vet, attaining her Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist qualification through the Canine Rehabilitation Institution in Florida. She has been practicing rehab since 2017 and has been a veterinarian since 2008.
She has been particularly focusing on post operative orthopedic patients, and canine athletes. She is a highly experienced and successful agility competitor, being actively competing since 2003.

My dog is scared of..
Fill in the blanks! Anxiety is, by far, the most common cause of behaviour disorders in dogs. And its a disease, the same as arthritis, allergies etc. Anxiety can manifest in different ways in our pets. Some have separation anxiety, not wanting to be left home alone. Some are scared of people or other dogs. Some bark. Some spin in circles or chase shadows.
The good news is anxiety can be treated with a combination of medications and behavioural modification.
Dr Kriszty Kelly has been performing behaviour consults for 15 years and involved in dog training for 20 years. Get in contact if you think your dog is suffering from anxiety today.

What is chronic pain in dogs?
Defined as pain lasting more than 3 months. In our dogs we see this mostly in older dogs suffering from osteoarthritis. Remember- dogs do NOT vocalise with pain. We need to look for changes in behaviour- struggling to get up/down, limping or reluctance to exercise. These can all indicate pain. Chronic pain is best treated using multi-modal therapy for maximum efficacy and minimum side effects. Dr Kriszty Kelly has been successfully treating chronic pain for 15 years, so get in touch if you are concerned about your dog.

What is Canine Rehabilitation?

Basically, physio for dogs! Rehab aids in the prevention of injury and the recovery from trauma (including surgery). It expands the physical potential and quality of life for our canine companions. Rehab is essential to achieve the optimum recovery and function post surgery (e.g cruciate surgery). Rehab is also important in treating soft tissue injuries and can help improve the life of pets diagnosed with problems like hip and elbow dysplasia. Finally rehab and chronic pain evaluation and treatment can make a big difference in the lives of our senior pets.

Dr Kriszty Kelly is a rehabilitation qualified veterinarian able to perform home visits to assist in all your dogs' rehab needs.
