You’re probably not feeding enough of thorn 🌾

Hay should make up at least 80-90% of your rabbits diet! Your bunnies should have constant access to it and generally should be eating their body size in hay every single day!
This is for many reasons:

• aids in digestion
• keeps those teeth trimmed
• generally keeps bunny healthy!

Too many owners use hay as a secondary food as feed pellets as their rabbits main source of food!

So if you see your rabbits hay getting low, fill it up!

If you see that your rabbits are eating more veggies or pellets than hay, lower the amounts of other foods they are getting!

If your rabbits poops are small, get them eating not ehay!

Use interactive toys to get your bunnies eating more hay!

And remember, unless your rabbit has a health condition, hay blocks, hay treats and hay pellets are not a replacement for long-stemmed hay!

TWW CHRISTAMS CHALLENGE

DAY ONE 🎄

🎄 - Let your pet choose a Christmas movie for you to watch this watch -🎄

This is a great activity to do with kids (if you have them!) 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧

Write down some Christmas movies on paper, put them down on the floor with a small treat on top, and let your pet choose which movie you’ll watch! 🎥

SO HERE’S THE THING 🎄

Not everyone in your house enjoys christmas! 🤯

But… there are ways to make it easier for them! 🎅

🐰 Keep the scents away! Whether it be scented candles of wax melts or… air fresheners - I mean who doesn’t love th smell of a delicious, christmas scent. Your bunnies probably don’t! So to keep them happy and healthy as ever, avoid spraying or using scented items in their enclosures.

🐰🐩 This Christmas remember that not all animals like being around lots of people! So if you’ve got family around, especially ones who may bring overbearing children who aren’t used to animals, be sure to advocate for your pets space if it seems like they need it!

🎄 Christmas trees can be a hazard to all pets (including cats!!). So if your animals are major chewers or scavengers, it may be worth putting a little gate around your christmas tree when you’re not around to supervise. Most christmas trees are riddled with plastic which isn’t very safe to inject£

🐩 If your pet finds it difficult to settle in the house when you’ve got guests (and various other distractions) about, try working on a “place” or “kennel” command from now to allow your pup a safe and controlled way to spend their christmas!

🐰🐩 And we all know that with christmas, comes food. Lots and lots of food! See my recent post about which christmas foods to avoid this holiday!

You’re probably not washing your pets bowls often enough! 🐕

But first, some fun statistics 📊

A small study showed that only 22% of dog owners wash their dogs bowls weekly! And a further 12% of dog owners wash their bowls daily! 😯

Though I haven’t found a study on bunny owners, I wouldn’t be surprised if it were similar numbers! 🐰

It is advised that you rinse out your pets bowls at least once a day, after their final feed or water. Dish soap and hot water is good enough! 🧼

It is also advises that pet owners disinfect their pets bowls once a week using hot water and bleach! 🧽

Do not be afraid to clean out your pets bowls with cleaning products with your pets as long as you are careful to rinse and dry them out well. 🧹

Do not use bleach or any strong chemical disinfectants on porous bowls such as plastic, wood, untreated ceramic or similar materials. ⚠️

Always be sure to wear gloves and/or other PPE when handling disinfectants and remember not to mix cleaning products at as it creates a hazard ❗️

Use this as your daily reminder to rinse your pets bowls out! 🤍

Be conscious of what (or who) you’re buying this Christmas and for whom. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Dogs, rabbits and most domestic pets are decade long commitments and shouldn’t be bought on impulse. 😃

You are not buying a stuffed animal but a living thing. Which may try to eat your hair, p*e on your new rug, eat food off your counters, cost you hundreds or even thousands in vet bills, needs to be fed and watered every day, usually twice a day, need to be walked or fed a special diet or needs to have a partner, and needs training and countless other things that animals need. 🧹

In 2017, dogs trust reported that in the uk over 3500 dogs were abandoned at christmas time - which works out to be a call every five minutes! 🐩

Christmas is such a busy time for people, and it’s completely worsened if your pup gets sick whilst you’re celebrating!

To avoid any problems and help your christmas party go smoothly, and keep your pups healthy and happy we’re sharing some of our favourite holiday season advice!

As always, always do your research on any product before you give it to your dog. And take your trusted veterinary professionals advice before anyone else’s.

‼️ We all know that this winter is going to be expensive and difficult for many, with the cost of living skyrocketing in most places.

🦺 Between January and July this year, the RSPCA recorded over 22,000 reports about abandoned animals with an increase of 49% of rabbits and 3% more dogs than the previous year.

🤍 Here at The Woof Warren, we completely support the responsible rehoming of animals when you can no longer look after them.

🌼 And whilst I cannot tell you exactly why these animals have been abandoned this year, I CAN give you a few suggestions on what you can do if you are struggling to afford/keep your pets.

🏥 The PDSA is an animal charity which helps pet parents who cannot afford vet care by offering low cost and free vet care and medication for your special furry friends.

👮🏽 The RSPCA is an animal rescue charity which can assist you in rehoming your pets if need be. Though, like many rescues, they may not be able to take your pet in as many centres are overflowing with animals, I am sure they will be able to suggest another place to surrender your pet to.

🧑🏾‍💻 The RSPCA is not the only animal rescue out there, and there are over a thousand animal rescues in the UK. Some of which are animal specific or even breed specific. These smaller rescues often get lost in the shadows of social media, so my recommendation would be to look through facebook, instagram and google to find one that can help you.

🏋🏼 For our larger or perhaps more difficult pets, you may be more likely to find a suitable home for them with a dog trainer as they will likely understand the animal more and have a network of like minded people who would be happy to take a big or troublesome dog in.

☎️ Please do not abandon your pet unannounced, ANYWHERE, but especially not in parks, forests or at the side of the road where they are most likely to be killed.

I have been working non-stop all week to get out everyone’s orders. And in total, that means 42 orders and over 190 items 😮‍💨

To be completely honest, I’m horrible with financing and ended up spending all the money I made on buying new boxes and other packaging supplies after I realised - “Wow! I have all these orders now… And no boxes. 🤭”

But, I’ve really enjoyed making everyone’s orders. I’m sure postage will be a mess to keep track of but feel free to message me if you have any questions at all :)

We can sometimes neglect our pups need for enrichment! 🧸

Although, as the good dog owners we are, our pups gets daily exercise and training, simple enrichment such as soft toys always makes the perfect addition to your dogs daily life as it allows them the ability to learn to play independently and encouraging relaxed behaviours in the home! 🏡

We sometimes take our pets for granted. 🫣

We feel too tired or there’s something more interesting to do or sometimes, we simply, just don’t want to.

But they’re always just there. Ready for us. Ready for veggies or walkies or treats (always ready for treats).

And taking that bit out of your day, even (or maybe especially) a bad one, can make you just that bit happier 🥰
