3 tips to make bathing a more pleasant experience for your dog:

# 1: SWEETEN MEMORIES OF BATH TIME WITH TREATS
By associating treats with a bath, dogs have something pleasurable to look forward to. Especially with pups, it’s a good idea to use treats to lure them into a bathroom without a fight.

# 2: BRUSH BEFORE A BATH
Matted hair retains water, which can irritate your dog’s skin. A thorough brush down will remove most of the knots, and it will calm the animal before the dreaded bathing begins.

# 3: WASH FROM NECK DOWN
Your dog will feel less anxious if you keep soap and jets of water off his face altogether. Wash from neck down and clean the face with a damp washcloth instead.

Traveling w your dog?
Airlines have strict regulations when it comes to the size of pet carriers. They must be able to fit underneath the seat in front of you (therapy or service dogs are an exception).
Typically dogs around 15 pounds or less can fit comfortably in the mandated size of the airline-approved pet carrier.

Make sure to look up your airline’s requirements in terms of the size and type of carrier that you are allowed to bring your pet in. While each airline varies slightly, most require the carrier to be between 16 and 19 inches long or less, and about 10 inches tall. Don’t try to make your pup fit in a carrier that is too small for him, it could stress him out even more.

Also, an important thing to note is that your dog’s carrier will now become your carry-on. That means that you are only allowed to bring one other personal item in the cabin. You will have to stow the other carry on to keep your dog by your feet, try to choose a carrier with extra pockets on the side for your book, magazines, etc. that you might want to keep handy.

Expose your dog to a wide variety of people, from men and women to children, so he can get acclimated to the idea of people (who are much bigger). The idea is that if your dog only ever hangs out with one person, he may grow wary of anyone that isn’t that person, so it’s crucial to diversify your dog’s social calendar and make time for meet-and-greets.

Stay calm and confident if your dog acts scared. Don’t push, but don’t make a big deal out of skittish behavior, either.
Ensure that people pet your dog where their hands can be seen, like on your dog’s chest or chin.
Use treats to give your dog a positive association with new people and experiences.
Go back to the basics. A dog who is confident with their training and routine makes for a well-rounded pooch.
Enlist a dog walker or drop-in pet sitter to give your dog exposure to different caregivers during the day.
