It's essentially the end of the season with the first frost upon us. To be honest, it couldn't have come at a better time. Between two jobs, being a student, caring for two kiddos and a puppy and managing the household, I don't have time for the garden.

I am so grateful and happy with what we were able to accomplish this year, from in the garden to the composting and just being mindful about sustainability and our native ecosystem.

I am so grateful for the support and conditions that allowed us to achieve so much and be blessed with such great harvests. While I have just a bit more to do, we're going to use the rest of Fall and most of Winter to reflect and plan for the 2023 season. I'll continue to post to share how I've preserved our harvests, through homemade goodies and through freezing, dehydrating and canning!

Happy Thanksgiving Y'all! (and hit me up with green tomato recipes, bonus if it can be water bath canned.)

There was a time when a harvest this big daily would be unfathomable! Over the years, through trial and error, I'm so proud and love the progress we've made! Who cares how long it takes, as long as you're making progress, it doesn't matter how long it took you to get there, or how fast you got there.

🌻Sunflowers! We love them for so many reasons:

🌻They are beautiful and attract many pollinators to the garden. The more 🐝 the more cross pollination in the garden.
🌻They help with cleaning of contaminated soil. Helping to draw out toxicity and improve soil quality ✅
🌻 Sunflower seeds make an excellent snack and sunflower heads before seeds harden can be grilled. and enjoyed!
🌻 They're easy to grow and re-grow with so many seeds from each flower. Likely the critters 🐿️ will take care of the planting for you 🧐
🌻 They provide excellent shade for plants that need it and can also be used to trellis other plants 🌱, like our morning glory or pole beans!

🌸🌻🌷 Blooms, blooms and more blooms

🌼🌺I believe they offer many benefits but I grow them to appreciate their beauty and to bring more pollinators to our garden. The hummingbirds that visit our morning glories are also a great bonus!

I love that my jasmine, and many others I've missed capturing, never fails from stopping me to pick a flower so I can smell the beautiful and calming pleasure it offers. I now fully understand when someone says, stop and smell the roses! 🌹

Red Currants are here! and we've had an abundance!! This has been our best year yet for currants.

I have a few recipes I wanted to try out including this red currant jelly (classic!). Also will be making a red currant cordial and possibly a red currant chutney!

A huge feeling of reward when they're jarred and ready to be stored! Knowing we grew it, we prepared it and that we're ready for emergencies and most importantly being able to enjoy what we grow all year long with our short growing season!

It definitely takes discipline but the pay off is huge! (and it likely is always the case with discipline!!)

This year is our best year for peas. We didn't have much luck in past years and would get a handful of peas. I think it's safe to say we'll have a steady supply of peas in handfuls for days! 🌱🌿

Also the red currants are killing it this year! Separate post on that. Strawberries 🍓 also did well and are soon to become jam!

What have you been harvesting or is growing well for you? ✨

Here it is! Our garden is planted for the most part! This was filmed two weeks ago.

Here's some honesty for you. I wish I filmed the plants going in. Talked about each one, why it was going where it was. But sometimes I'm thinking about what's next rather than how to document it. I'm learning to slow down and enjoy the moment, without thinking about the long list because the days are short. 😶‍🌫️

Since we're being honest, I also wish I was better at social media, at getting great action shots and putting together catchy content, but I'm not there yet. Practice creates improvement and for now, it's all I can do...keep practicing!

I am enjoying this beautiful warm weather frolicking in the garden with my boys. Hoping to share more engaging content with y'all and getting better at documenting things around here🤞🏽

this audio spoke to me.

I have and still do fear shame, judgment and blame; however through and ...

I why I feel the way I do, to my strengths and realize where I struggle, to biases and see another perspective.

It's clear I would than not when something doesn't seem right; history and science both tell us to , and I know I'm privileged to have a . Hopefully you do too and , so speak up for those in the back!
